I have a friend that was involved in an altercation at a bar over the weekend, long story short they grabbed a bartender and slammed her head into the bar. The bartender was back at the bar very shortly after that, no injury. My friend was being chased by another bartender that was threatening her and left before they could catch them. Cops showed up shortly after and took everyone's statements, I was gone and do not know what all was said any by who, nor do we know if there was any camera footage or anything.

They received an email from an detective asking them to come in and answer some questions. The detective knows the home address and asked if they would come in instead of him having to drive out to the house.

Should they go in and talk to the cop without a lawyer? If so, how should it be handled.

Have a lawyer present - before you talk to police.

Who among us hasn't, in a moment of weakness, slammed a bartender's head into the bar?

Seriously, this sounds like just a typical Saturday night for me.

Women exaggerate, I doubt her head was slammed into the bar. Get a lawyer to prove that analytically.

Thats what i said. My friend is a 5'3" 113lb girl... The bar is approximately 3' deep and atleast 3' tall, how much leverage could she have gotten to do any real damage. Although any touching will be considered assault and battery in Texas.

I was half-kidding, because women do get abused, etc... but I've seen so many girls exaggerate or even say "he hit me" when nothing even close to that occurred. They just use it in the heat of the moment to get what they want. It's an ace up their sleeve, a powerful one, and many women will use it, especially the kind you find working behind a bar (sorry, a generalization but c'mon). It sucks.

Sounds like your friend is guilty of assault unless she can prove she was protecting herself. I would definitely consult an attorney for legal advice.

If your friend left, how did the cops get her e-mail address?

It'd be funny if this thread winded up as evidence in the trial.
