No need for more abortion restriction. What we need is more sex education!

Wow the US really has the most messed up political system in the world. It is comical how badly it works.
The fact that filibustering something is possible is pathetic, why in the world did they ever make that possible. Who thought i would be a good idea to make it possible that if you know you will lose the vote (democratically) you can just keep talking and not vote at all.

And now the vote has to start before 12 o'clock, and if it started a few seconds later the vote doesn't count? What kind of stupid rule is that, who cares when the vote started, the only thing that should matter is what the votes were. The people who came up with these rules were idiots.

I do not think the Dutch political system is ideal, but the two party system the us has with the us rules is just absurd. It is just comical

That being said I'm glad that the bill didn't pass. I have voiced my opinion on abortion many times on the board, so I’m not getting into that again. I just wanted to laugh at the American political system :grin:

It might seem like it is all over, but now Perry will call a 30 day special session so the Senate can vote on three bills. The passing of this bill is inevitable, and now taxpayers money will be wasted on a special session that was not needed in the first place.

Waking up to find this thing has blown up nationally.

Quite the disaster for the GOP, especially in Texas.

    But but but.....
“Actually, mankind has existed for a pretty long time without anyone ever having to give a sex ed lesson to anybody. And now we feel like, oh gosh people are too stupid unless we force them to sit and listen to instructions. It is just incredible,” Gohmert said.

Also, just for the record, I would have no problem with them implementing the rule of no abortions past 20 weeks. I think where most of us have a problem with this, is the surgical center requirement which would effectively shut down most of the clinics in the state. If they would take that piece out of it, I doubt you'd see anywhere close to this level of opposition. Of course it makes much better headlines for conservatives to only point to the 20 week thing. Please post stats from some random jackoff on Twitter that cites how Americans feel about the surgical center requirement. Thx.

One of the reasons the Gosnell and Karpen chop shops were allowed to go on for so long was they weren't subject to standards of other surgical outpatient facilities.

As long as the abortion clinics can comply with the same standards as everyone else, they need not shut down.

You missed my point. There are actually women who advocate that it should be able to be done as easily and frequently as one chooses. The article was posted here where the pro-choice woman ranted against people for using the rare word as she was totally against any efforts to make them rare.

So how is the bill written in regards to the surgical center standard part? Will it actually shut down most of the clinics or will there be some grace period for the clinics to come up to standard? Is the standard so high that even with a grace period it's impossible to meet?
