Sine Die happened. Session is over and the bill failed to pass. Perry can call a special session tomorrow and this could then pass but for now its a victory for Democrats.

Some people are saying the bill passed at the last minute and some people saying it didn't or that it should be void because it was too loud to hear what they were voting on. To me it doesn't seem like a resolution to this is going to come until tomorrow at the earliest.

 

It doesn't matter if the clock runs past; you can just get a time kit and clean it right out.

 

Do we not have the most *****ed political process imaginable? Simply astounding. It's defined by technicalities and empty of sense.

Our political process is supposed to operate on a system of trust and order. I'm not a fan of the gallery going nuts to prevent a roll call even though I hate this bill. I however am not a fan of Senator Duncan and Lt Governor Dewhurst pulling parliamentary rules out of their ass to kill the filibuster. The Republicans ****ed up royally in the house by failing to follow the rules and therefore created an opportunity for a filibuster.

You dont then get to arbitrarily enforce the rules to derail that filibuster. That said Democrats went way too far in trying incite the crowd to run the clock out. It's a ****ty way to end what was otherwise a reasonably decent session.

Sine Die occurs when a motion to adjourn is called. They didn't call the point of order until AFTER the vote began. Therefore, the vote is valid, doesn't matter that it happened after midnight, they didn't call a point of order prior to the vote. Awful way to end session, I honestly have a stomach ache.

As for the "peace sign," 2 means nay, 1 means aye.

 

When I left the Capitol they were still caucusing and had not given any indication when they would return to the floor. If I remember, and am still up, I will post an update.

Honestly, this wasn't even on the radar of worst ways to end the session. It COULD NOT have been worse. While I oppose abortion, I did not agree with the way the use of the rules, to call a point of order on germane arguments comparing this bill to the sonogram bill passes in the prior session, and to Roe v. Wade, seems pretty silly to me.

Crazy stuff. I was told that you had to raise a point of order to adjourn if the discussion went on past midnight. From my seat it looked/sounded (as everyone was screaming and it was impossible to hear) as if the motion to table was being voted on. I guess they were voting on another motion? I don't know, I spoke with 15 year vets who didn't have a clue what was going on lol.
