When it comes to comparing him to other Greek basketball players in an attempt to gauge his future...absolutely not fair.

There's nothing Greek about him...lineage (sp?) -wise.

What is he, a horse? So, he born is Greece; plays his entire life in Greece; plays youth leagues; plays on the junior national team...basically gets coached by Greeks and plays against them his entire life...

and there is nothing Greek about him..."lineage"-wise

Are you kidding me? So, it's strictly about genes? Not coaches and environment? That's like saying Lin isn't American.

But you say two Yugoslavian's are Greek in Stojakovich and Nestarovich...because, why now? Because they look more Greek, I suppose?

    really?

Racist. Just because he's black, he is not Greek? Is Lebron James not American?

Oh my god ppat is garbage. He was not worth keeping for his last season. We are trying to be contenders and a pf that cant rebound is destined for failure. Name me one pf that turned out well with ppats rebounding numbers.

There is a reason the crappy grizzlies offense made the playoffs. They have bigs who can rebound. There is a reason we made the playoffs after a complete roster overhaul in hardens first season with lins poor start. We got a rebounder. Scola sucks at rebounding too. We lost so many games because his ass could not grab a rebound. Yao never had a true rebounder next to him which is why we got out rebounded when he boxed out his man at the end of close games.

    Offensive rebounds create more shots.

Defensive rebounds take away shots from the opponent.

More opportunities to win the game.

Oh, and i am refering to old scola. Not the one at the end of his prime.

He is Nigerian. His parents happened to be living in Greece when he was born.
...and LeBron James was born in America. So, yeah...he's surely American. But LeBron's parents are also American.

Comparing him to Greek basketball players is just absurd. Compare him to Nigerian basketball players. If you're so inclined to 'compare' him to someone.

Your mind can be blown all it wants.

He's Nigerian to the core. Any attempt to prove otherwise is futile, 'cause it just ain't true.

lol you said Lebron is American because he was born in America, but the other is Nigerian even though his parents "happened to be living in Greece when he was born." That statement by itself is just pure lawlzy.

And if it is true that he played his entire life in Greece, played in their youth league and their junior national team and was coached by Greeks and played against them and in the Greek system his whole life...it is really hard to make your point without being racist. But it's okay, we all get what you're trying to say ;)

    The dude's Nigerian. Period.

My best friend...he's German simply because his parents gave birth to him there. Do I have that right?

I'm not disrespectful of anyone here, you're entitled to your opinions. I respectfully disagree w/ all of you who claim he's Greek. Sure, he's a citizen, but that's just a paper thing. He is Nigerian.

Most likely Yoruba, given the way his name is spelled. I would have to ask him to be sure, though.

Who cares what he is? Lets focus on basketball... there is truly no way to tell how good Giannis can be in the NBA. He could be a star.. he could also be a bust. One will never know until he comes over and tries it out.

He's a Nigerian-Greek because he was born and raised in Greece. My yiayia had Greek parents but was born and raised in America so she is a Greek-American. Bloodlines play a major part when it comes to who we are, but so does our environment (nature-nurture).
