IMO, Having Lin is almost as bad as having Nash. One is too inexperienced/raw and the other due is too old and likely to be injured. DH is going to have Lin's poor playoff performance fresh on his mind, even if half was played injured. Of course Lin will get better, thats not the issue. The issue is DH is ready to win now and Lin is probably 2 years away from being a real solid starting PG for a contender.

This is where it is wrong. Lin is young and improving. Nash can only get older and more injury prone. You may be right for the present sense, but one of the attraction of Rockets to Howard is the young core and improving. I can see him want CP3 but don't think he would be worried too much about Lin. Lin will improve, and if he doesn't, we can still trade him due to his off-game market value.

I think it's just general Jeremy Lin disdain. He's also been accused of being too "cheap" in this thread and who knows where that claim comes from.

When we let go of Lowry and Dragic and signed Lin you automatically knew there were going to be haters if he didn't recreate Linsanity for the entire season.

To be fair, I thought he performed less than what I wanted but he got better as the season progressed. We'll see what happens next.

I disagree. I doubt Lin's handful of games in the playoffs, where more than half of which he was visibly injured, will linger in Dwight's mind at all. In fact, I imagine Dwight spends very little time considering Lin. He'd come here for Harden, not Lin.

As many teams have shown though, you do not need a championship caliber PG to win a ring or contend. Plenty of teams are able to win rings or contend w/o one. I can easily imagine various realistic scenarios where Lin stays about the same and we are real contenders for a ring -- would just need another piece or two added to the team and others to get better (to a reasonable degree).

Idk about almost as bad, being an up and comer is generally thought of as a good thing.

Regardless I can't really argue as to what Dwight Howard is thinking right now, what his motivations are, and what his realistic options are. Some people say that he doesn't even know what he's thinking, lol.

Our biggest hope is to sell DH on us being the young progressive team while the Lakers are the old dying team. Lin still has star power (whether it's related to his game or not) and I think that has some attraction to Dwight as well.

exactly, when was the last time a team with an elite point guard won an nba title? If Dwight wants to win now he'd shut up stay in LA and do what's asked instead of being a big baby.

He wants to go somewhere where he can win without having to carry a big load.

No but he is known for sucking and being a softee. In other words not worth his paycheck.

You can't just ignore the present and sell him on the future alone. The team needs to prove it can take a big step now, this season coming up. That doesnt mean wining a ring, but a deeper playoff run, at least. Lin is likely to be the starter who will be lagging behind in readiness. We can assume he'll improve and be at least a solid starter in the future, say 2 years, but what then? That's the end of Lin's deal and halfway through Dwight's. How do you think Dwight is going to feel about waiting half his contract for Lin to be ready? Will Lin even stay here at that point? I just don't like the timing of it. You want more security at that position, if you're gearing up for a string of playoff runs. Even trading him then presents a problem, since you still need to find and then integrate his replacement, if you're lucky, that takes one year, but 2 is more likely. Dwight isn't 23 or 24. These guys have to step up immediately to keep his attention. Otherwise, he's going to ask out.

I'm pretty sure he's focused on all the players, especially our pg, who's the one who is going to get him the ball. Harden and Howard are nice, but they are no shaq/Kobe or Lebron/wade. They need help and DH knows it.

The most recent champs either had these above average/AS PGs:

    Billups
    Parker
    rondo
    Kidd

Or they had guys who were basically the best player on the planet at the time (or close second, FWIW):

    Kobe
    lebron

The only exception was Shaq/Wade combo, but they had a very experienced PG in JWill and a future hall of famer in Payton.

We don't have any of that. We have a Norris Cole-type (experience-wise) starting for us. We're going to need Lull to come over soon, unless we promote Patrick and pick up some other veteran help.

I just don't see Lin as the glaring hole you do. I don't think it'll take two years for him to be "solid."

Lin, as of right now, is a perfectly capable passer who can get Dwight the ball whenever he wants it. Harden can do the passing/play making as well.

If there's an issue with our roster it's that we don't have a PF.

I also wouldn't put Kobe as such a sure thing. He might come back from injury but he's still at the tail end of his career. So the question arises again, does Dwight want to spend his next contract with growing players getting better, or aging players getting worse (who also take up all the cap room)?

You can talk all day about Lin's capabilities, but the bottom line is they are not at the level they need to be for a contender. If you analyze him alone, he's doing fine, but analyze him as part of a contending team and he's a hole. He's going to have to make a huge jump this offseason, to make up for it and that's just not likely.

I just disagree that Dwight would prefer the Lakers over the Rockets solely due to Jeremy Lin.

The entire team dynamic changes when you get a player like Dwight and no one can accurately say how much Lin will improve this summer or improve just by having DH on the floor.

So is DH going to bank on Kobe coming back and being top 3 or 5 in the league and them being the super combo that takes the Lakers to contention or is he going to look at Harden and a good supporting cast to see if they can do it?

? Wow I really think you're over-emphasizing Lin's importance to Dwight here, but sure, I'll entertain it. The teams that have not required a very good PG have been teams with another player who has great distributing talents, like Kobe or Lebron. Guess what, Harden has that too. In fact, he almost plays PG more than Lin does, w/ a usage rate 8-9% higher than Lin. So who will Howard be getting the ball from a lot? Apparently more Harden than Lin.

But even there, Lin is a GREAT PnR player. Everyone knows that, his other flaws set aside, he is certainly a well above average PnR player. So not only will Harden have the ball more in his hands, but Lin is a great PnR finisher.

Also, you're forgetting that what we're really comparing here is alternatives. We don't have to compare Lin to Tony Parker, only Nash. Nash vs. Lin? Lin doesn't look much like a liability; in fact, I would prefer Lin, who is younger and obviously has more upside. Kobe vs. Harden? Kobe is better than Harden now, but possibly missing parts of the season, at age 35 AND coming off a MAJOR injury? Dwight's essentially picking youth and potential w/ near equal talent (as of now) over the aging and hobbled Lakers. Lin isn't going to be a problem. He won't be a huge draw, but he won't be some large detriment either. I just don't see why.

Finally, you seem to be under the impression that Lin is not ALREADY a solid starter. If your argument was Lin needs to be a championship/contender status PG...well then, yeah, he has a ways to go. But a solid starter? All indications point to him being more than capable at that role, and that is without assuming he improves any over the offseason.

His injury plagued and role-confused beginning was terrible and pulled down his stats, but when the coaching staff and Lin and the FO said his injury was healed 100% (early April I think it was), he went on a tear. We can even start looking at post-all star break till the end of the regular season; so like half the season, he was putting up 15 PPG w/ 6 assists on 44% from the field, 38% from 3 pt range. If that isn't a solid starting PG...I Don't know what your definition of one is.

Let me ask you this, if Howard is going to choose between LAL and Houston, which team has a better PG situation going forward? Of course if his agent can get him to Clippers to join CP3, it's all moot point.

What a laugh. People on here are really so desperate to be rid of Lin that they've constructed a fantasy where Morey will have to dump Lin if he is serious about acquiring Harden. Throw it in with the Anti-Lin Fantasy Bin alongside the Bev > Lin one, the "we're getting CP3" one, and the Lin < every other PG in the league one.

Then tell me which team offers Harden level guy, and a so called "championship ready PG", along with all other players on other positions "championship ready", and have cap room to sign him.

I think Lin is more championship ready than Nash. I rather make my bets on Lin and Howard will mesh well than Nash's health

    He attacks the rim

Amazing that people consider Lin a softee. Be real and fair. He is 6'3" and 200lbs. He plays attacking basketball. Look at all the highlight films when he brought up the ball at lightening foot speed or muscled through defense gaps to attack the rims. He even did that to his old pal Tyson Chandler and got floored by the guy. So much for a former team-mate buddy. LOL. So are Rubio, Curry, Nash, Conley etc more physical than him in attacking? Don't think so.
