The open 40 man spot is the most intriguing part of this. I was expecting them to hit the waiver wire.
Seeing how strong 2014 mlb draft will be I expect the Astros to tank and maybe call up better prospects until SEPT.
There's not really a need to tank when they're already the second worst team in the league. Go just par for the course and they're virtually guaranteed a top 3 pick barring some major injury or fire sale from another team.
I expect him to be good for 1-2 weeks, and then realize he's Brett Wallace. In a lot of ways, he is the new J.R. Towles.
I am going to go against my knee jerk reaction and hope the very best for Wallace. If things work out, I suppose Pena or Carter will be out at some point. The question in my mind is how long a look will he be given WRT his history? How long will he have to put up consistent numbers to convince everyone he is for real this time?
If Wallace keeps his spot, I imagine Carter as our more or less permanent DH and Pena the guy on the bubble.
Pena will be out eventually, but for now, somebody is losing a regular starting spot (I'd guess Barnes).
This predicament is why its a bit puzzling to bring up another 1st baseman while Pena and Carter are still around. I think id rather see Pena sit with Carter @ DH and Wallace @ 1st, than Carter in the OF.
I feel the same way. I'm guessing Wallace will also be the primary backup to Dominguez. Hopefully Pena will get shipped out for a half eaten bag of Doritos so we can normalize our roster. And FWIW, Krauss really doesn't belong in the OF either.

I, for one, have grown a little tired of the Jimmy Paredes experiment. I realize there aren't many other choices out there for our outfield spot, but Borbon off the waiver wire would have been a much better option.
He really just seems like an athlete with no true position. I agree, I am tired of it... but it just seems like he should be better.
The Walrus experiment has gone on far longer. I have a feeling that these two guys have til the end of the year to either break out of the bubble or sink below it.
