Stupid Maury! He's so dumb! He passed on Kawhi Leonard! He traded for bum Thomas Robinson! I wish we had San Antonio's management! They know how to find good players. Like this Thomas Robinson fella they are trying to trade for. THAT'S smart. Buying low. San Antonio is so brilliant. Maury would never even think to get a guy like that.

Nice! Delfino, Brooks and Robinson to the Bulls? Makes too much sense. Book it.

Delfino is a great fit there especially if they move Deng.

    Aren't the Bulls hard capped?

Hopefully we can get the Cavs to bite. Give us better chance at nabbing Karasev or the Greek Freak.

If we do trade T-Rob to Bulls, does that essentially mean Boozer will be amnestied?

Art, if we pay $2 million to a team that is severely under the cap to take Royce, that's not $200k, it's $2 million. We are giving them $2 million.

Correct. And while the difference between a hypothetical $2 million cash payment and Royce's ~$1.72 million salary for 2013-14 is "only" ~$280k, you also need to factor in that the receiving team can waive Royce this summer and only have to pay him ~$573k per year over the course of the next three years. When you factor in the time value of money, the receiving team comes out way more than $280k ahead on this deal financially. For teams in the red (such as Charlotte), don't underestimate the importance of a $2 million cash inflow.

I feel like this would make too much sense for a team controlled by MJ the smartest owner in the game.

You joined in 2013. How educated can your guess be? Just last year minny traded the 19th pick for Budinger several days before the draft. Some teams dont like any of the rookies they can get, so they spend more time shopping the pick than scouting it. As the draft gets closer they become more and more desperate to sell it. How many other GMs do you think went to Europe to scout all of these foreign guys?

I don't see how you see it as 2 mill in cash inflow when he's still going to get paid his 1.72. Even if you stretch pay him and put that 1.427m in a good (real good but semi-safe) investment, I don't see how you'd get more than 300k tops cash inflow (cash paid from the Rockets minus the cash owed to Royce over 3 years). And when you talk about the amounts that run through a team's hands over a 3 year period, that's pennies. To me, selling my cap space for other team's bad choices to allow them to do other things has a higher price tag. The only good thing about Royce is his small salary and that it is expiring.

MJ would take the $2 million and put it all on red.

Read the 90% minimum salary rule in the CBA and it should start clicking. They gotta pay out 90% of the cap anyways. If they take $2 million in for a $1.7 million player, that's an extra $2 million in their pocket.

I see where you're coming from, but it is possible that in reality owners of nba teams treat the two as separate piles of cash, essentially. Think of an office w/ a budget (salary cap). If you don't use the budget at the end of the yr, next yr's budget tends to be the same or lower in amount. While that does not happen in the nba, the inclination to not waste cap space could be the same. That a minimum has to be reached we all already know, but I don't know how owners handle nba team finances -- how set aside under cap money is or whatnot. The $2M infusion could be an amount that goes straight to an owner's pocket, and if the team was not going to be using the cap space anyways...why not?

I think it would be better to get this guy off the books using the cash we have left this year. That $3 million could come in handy with all of the moves we may have to make after july 1. It is not like we could use him. He hates the rockets. If he screws up on another team then it is his attitude thats the problem and not the rockets fault.

Moving robinson should come first because his contract is bigger.

Your math only works if their team salary is right at the number for the next season. If after they are done making their moves they are over the cap, then they did not get $2 million in "extra" money. They only get the difference between salary and the money.

But I do get your point, it just only works that way under specific conditions.

Joining in 2013 must mean I just started following basketball, right?
I hope I'm wrong, but the budinger comparison is not valid. Chase was contributing to his team and his contract was worth less. But you joined a while ago so you already knew that.
