The interesting one here is M. Ellis S&T. We all know the other players have been rumoured for awhile.

-Robinson should be no shock here. Im sure his bags are already packed.

-Vesely- The Wiz have probably been shopping him for awhile. He's sort of an odd fit for a young team that needs more foundational players, and less niche players. You'd have to think that there are teams (like the 2011/2012 Rockets) that would love to see what they can get from this guy. The Wiz probably want an established player for Vesely or a 1st round pick. This Summer they are lucky to get a 2nd rounder for him.

-Granger- no real shock that his name is out there once again. Im sure the Rockets are hoping that he somehow doesn't get dealt for some time so they can try to make a run at him later in the Summer after they (fingers crossed) bring in a player like Dwight.

-Monta- Could be tied to alot of teams looking to deal a guaranteed contract for him to "upgrade" their team. Monta is an interesting player, and his name gets thrown around year after year because he's such a dynamic talent, but definitely not a player to build around.

Also In the this case, the team looking to acquire him through S&T is most likely sending a large deal or several smaller deals to the Bucks in return. There are teams with cap space that "shouldn't" need to send over salary in a S&T when they could sign him outright like Dallas, Atlanta, or Cleveland.

Are the Pacers willing to trade Granger for Monta? Orlando with Afflalo? Who the hell knows?

    Nope.

While the new CBA automatically "stretches out" all PAYMENTS to waived players whose contracts were signed under the new CBA (as Honeycutt's was), the team gets to elect whether to (a) similarly stretch out the cap hit or (b) take the entire cap hit in the year(s) set forth in the contract.

With Honeycutt (whose 2013-14 salary was partially guaranteed for $100k), the Rockets elected to take the entire $100k cap hit in 2013-14 rather than taking a ~$33k cap hit in each of the next three seasons.

This guy, who is a coach in Israel, isn't very high on Giannis Adetokunbo:

Mitnick: Greek Freak will be This Year’s EuroBust

I don't know how you can call a player a bust when he is only 18 though. Sure, if whatever team drafts him tries to bring him along too quickly, he will definitely be a bust not to mention the danger of tearing an ACL, being so skinny, like Ricky Rubio because the NBA season is so physically demanding.

Hot and heavy in trade talks could mean Houston is just calling everyone trying to dump T-Rob. Im still not buying the fact that they have a guaranteed first rounder for trob. Teams are very wary of taking on contracts and it would be odd to have given out a guarantee that early before the free agency period and before any teams saw who dropped on the draft boards.
My guess, which is a very educated one :), is that someone from Houston leaked a claim that they already have a guarantee hoping someone else would offer to take him.

Bima, how likely do you think it is that we ship Royce out? I mean we can even provide enough cash to cover his salary (I.E. Toney Douglas). Surely someone would be willing to take him off of our hands by Sunday, right?

Teams take on contracts all the time. All the time. Especially bad teams with plenty of cap space. If they can take a flyer on a high-upside guy, why not?

I hope we get that Karasev player. Love the idea of a sharp-shooting marksman on our line-up. Has a lot of heart and hustle. Good defensive instints, but needs to bulk up a bit.

I like this or the Pacers a lot......They get a legit 2 gurad and let Stevenso play 6 man role off bench (like he is more suited for) and The Pacers are back in contention ....the Bucks get a legit SF and try to convince Jennings to stay (cause they have nobody else worth a damn).

Im not even sure if the move would be possible financially for both teams. Its just a team I could see having interest in making a deal like this. Whats interesting here is the S&T rumour because its not the obvious teams out there with capspace that could find him useful like Dallas.

I think paying a team to take White's contract off their books is a distinct possibility for the Rockets. However, they won't sink $1-2 million cash into a salary dump just for the sake of doing so. They will need to determine whether there is a clear and present better use for his roster spot and whether that additional cap room is absolutely necessary. While it is not ideal, if they absolutely HAVE to dump White, they can still do so after July 1, albeit they'll be eating into their $3.2 million Maximum Annual Cash Limit for 2013-14.

I know I'm not Bima but you have to look at this from the other team's point of view. While we do have a little more than left 2 million to give which would more than cover his 1.7 salary, it's going to take more than cash. The Rockets bent over backwards to provide him everything he needed including his own RV. I don't think that's ever been done before in the NBA. And how were they rewarded? Endless vague complaints directed to the FO via Twitter - and another baby. And how did he do in RGV against the "I-have-a-dream" players? hmmm...not too good. Coachable? Nope. Good teammate? Nope. Even if you pay 100% of his salary, he is taking up a roster spot, eating cap space which can be very valuable for future deals and has that Twitter finger ready to go if you don't do more for him than the Rockets did. Might even have a lawsuit lingering overhead if you pick him up and things go south. It will cost salary + someone or something of great value. 1st round pick is just a starting point. Just to unload an expiring mid-round 2012 pick. SMH. Worst. Pick. Ever.

I don't think it will take more than cash. I think it's just a matter of how much cash. There are teams out there with gobs of cap space who have no intention of contending for the playoffs this next season. (Hello Charlotte and Sacramento and Phoenix and probably Atlanta..). All teams have to spend 90% of the salary cap in payroll. So a team that is not contending and is somewhat cash tight would probably relish the opportunity to have a free $2 million player. That's $2 million they get to keep instead of pay to another player to not be competitive.

I seriously doubt any team is looking at Royce White and not just seeing a player that won't be on the active roster, and gone in a year. Paying his salary while netting a 2nd rounder or so seems like a very do-able thing. I'd think that Morey is looking to get a better deal, but I doubt that he doesn't consider this scenario a back pocket option.

Exactly. It's a matter of whether they want to pay his salary now and get rid of him for nothing, or roll the dice by waiting until July and risk having to dip into the 12-13 shopping money if nothing develops. Morey doesn't really have a precedent in these types of deals, because he's never been hampered by an annual cash limit.

I would be shocked if it would just take cash. Shocked. His baggage is way too long to dangle pennies for a favor. Free and cut won't cut it. It will take a pick to unload IMO even if he's immediately released by the future team.

Well yeah. Either that or more cash than his salary, which we only have, what like .4 mil extra to offer? We'd have to sweeten the pot via a second rounder or the rights to swap picks or something.

But again, I don't think teams see him as a player with all the extra baggage and whatnot. They just look at him as a waste of space (whether it's via cap space or roster space) for a year.

I think there are two separate deals. I feel like T-Rob to somewhere for a first round pick. Then Brooks and Delfino to Portland for 2 2nd rounders.

It's not pennies for a favor. CBA says teams have to pay out 90% of salary cap in player payroll. 90% of $58.5 million is like $52.5 million. So a team like Charlotte for instance has to pay out $52.5 million next season whether they want to or not. They're not going to compete. They're playing for the lottery. And they aren't going to spend big (unless they somehow attract a max free agent which simply isn't going to happen or unless they can somehow trade some of their mediocre talent for a superstar which isn't going to happen either).

So, since they have to spend $52.5 million, why not take on an ending contract that they pay the salary for ($1.8 million) but they get $2 million cash to do it. That's an extra $2 million cash and and a look see at the player for a few weeks, months, or for the entire season. It's a chance to turn Royce into an asset for them and it actually puts money in their pocket.

Charlotte isn't the only team that is going to be scrambling around to fill their salary cap out once Dwight/Paul/Iggy and the other big names are gone. There'll be more than one team in this predicament.

200k is pennies to teams. It won't make them go "sweet" even if they have to spend cash. Asset(s). That is what it will take. Either that or a lot more than 200k.
