Yeah Jones really impressed me in the games he played in close to the end of the season. Something about the way he played made me feel like he would be a solid starting 4 with room to improve. He rebounded well, defended well, had quick feet, good hands, the ability to finish and he was even blocking shots well. Dmo never made me feel like that, way to inconsistent in play. Often got bullied bad on D, very inconsistent stroke, was pushed out of the paint easy and was even inconsistent on rebounding for some reason. Those are some really bad things you wouldn't want in your starting 4. With that said he did show flashes of brilliance with his post moves and shooting stroke. But i really wouldn't mind signing Milsap or Smith, jones can still get 15-20 mins off the bench if he was playing well.
Would be an excellent fit next to Howard, but can't see how it could happen. Plus I have a feeling Terrence Jones is going to excel if we get Howard.
Landry has very good offensive skills but his defense would cause problems against most of the starting 4's in the league. He's always good at pleasing the crowd with his dunks, but he would stunt our growth and eat up too much cap for a bench player. If we want to win now we need more of a David West type (although I'm pretty sure he's resigning with Indy).
The whole "stunting the growth of DMo/Jones" thing will no longer be relevant if the Rockets land Dwight Howard. Morey's talk of not wanting to take opportunities away from young guys was made when they were still looking for a star among unproven young guys. Now that they have at least one, and once they get a 2nd star, the "taking bets on growing youngsters" tactic will be gone and replaced by finding players ready to contribute right now. In fact, DMo, Jones and young prospects who are not ready to play right away are all subject to being traded for guys who are ready to contribute to a playoff run if the Rockets add Dwight. Some of you guys are stuck in the thinking of the treadmill era.
The DR34M would be better value than Landry right now if you want to obsess about ex-rockets. Put dream on the bench next to Dwight!
Remember the Portland game when LMA was opening up a can on us...? TJ didn't play much but he did slow LMA down when he was in the game. You don't sleep on 11 blocks in back to back games. Plus the dude has point guard skills with the ball and can play multiple positions. If we're not talking about getting LMA or Dirk _ let the kid play. I'm not big on Howard but TJ would thrive big time playing in the frontcourt with him.
If Rocket sign Howard to max contact they will be cap out. I believe full MLE take affect and they use that instead "room midlevel exception" Can anyone confirm this?
They will have to renounce the MLE if they are to use cap room to sign Dwight outright. Only the room exception will be available after that.
Not a good idea. The rebounding task will fall heavily on DH, as well as at the rim help. He'll start complaining indirectly and that'll be the beginning of the end.
no need to sign landry as much as I wanted him to be on this team last year. dwight and asik will take power forwards out of the nba. picture this... blake uses his time travel device to magically get by one of the best pick and roll defenders in asik. but out of nowhere, dwight is right there to obstruct.
