Three Stars: June 23 Quite a few really, really good pitching performances yesterday. 3. Lance McCullers, P, Carlos Correa, SS, and Teoscar Hernandez, CF, Quad Cities McCullers: W(4-4), 5 IP, H, 2 BB, 7 K Correa: 3-5, R Hernandez: 3-5, HR(5), 2 RBI, 2 R Correa landed himself on Baseball America's daily Prospect Notebook feature today. McCullers has literally blown the Midwest League away. I think he could take the Mike Foltynewicz route next season with a month in Lancaster to start and then finish out the rest of the season in Corpus. Hernandez is back in right field to team up with his GCL outfield partner Brett Phillips joining the fold. I think he's definitely a top 30 prospect in this system right now. 2. Adrian Houser and Tanner Bushue, P, Tri-City Houser: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 6 K Bushue: W(1-0), 4 IP, 6 K Houser's injury probably cost himself a spot in the Quad Cities rotation to begin the season. He's just 20, though, so he's still pretty young for the NYPL. Bushue was passed by long, long ago. He's trying not to be completely forgotten. 1. Preston Tucker, RF, Lancaster 2-4, 2 3-R HR (14) Tucker's playing like he really, really wants that spot in Corpus that was vacated by George Springer. Honorable Mentions Brady Rodgers, P, Oklahoma City: Now that's a way to make a first impression. Rodgers' stay in OKC might be brief, but he could be the one to take the spot in the Corpus rotation vacated by Jake Buchanan. Joe Sclafani, SS, Lancaster: He's out-Fontanaing Nolan Fontana! By the way, Fontana's struck out 1 more time than he's walked. Carlos Perdomo, 2B, Lancaster: Depth infielder has himself a great game. The homer was his first since April 24, 2012. Frederick Tiburcio, P, Greeneville: Tiburcio really pitched well as last season progressed. He could be a Dominican Mike Hauschild, given the good groundball rates he's had in his career. Krishawn Holley, P, Greeneville: I feel like he pitched more in that outing than he did in the last 3 years combined. He's put up good numbers whenever he's pitched (every once in a blue moon, it seems), so he could emerge as an interesting arm. Dan Gulbransen, OF, Tri-City: Timely hitting put his team on the board and sparked a big late-inning rally. Brandon Laird, 3B, Oklahoma City: 2-run homer sparked a comeback, and he won it with the double. He was in a bit of a slump since returning to OKC. Goats Gonzalo Sanudo, Tyler Brunnemann, Eric Berger, and Rhiner Cruz all blew it late.

Live in Austin and love going to Round Rock games, but since the Stros left I never really felt the need to go. Now with Springer and Singleton coming to town on July 8th Im suddenly extremely excited to hit up Dell Diamond. Cant wait to see 2 of the big pieces of our future core a year before they get to the big club.

Recap Omaha 3, Oklahoma City 2 Philip Humber is stilll searching for that first win this year, as the Storm Chasers scored 2 in the top of the 6th, thanks to an error from Jonathan Villar. Jimmy Paredes hit a 2-run homer (4) in the 3rd that represented all of the OKC offense. Jake Elmore and Brett Wallace both went 2-4. Villar, who scored on Paredes' homer, had a steal (26). Humber, whose 0-3 record now gives him an 0-11 record in 2013, actually pitched a decent game. He went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Jose Valdez pitched the final 2 innings in scoreless fashion, allowing a hit. The series wraps up this afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 4:30. Jarred Cosart will take on Danny Duffy in game 1, and in game 2, Bobby Doran, summoned from Corpus for a spot start, will face Maikel Cleto, whom the Royals claimed off waivers from the Cardinals a few days ago. They got 2 in the 3rd thanks to bases-loaded walks from Brett Booth and Jake Nottingham. 2 more runs came in the 4th off of Tigers errors; Jason Martin and Brandon Wikoff scored on the flubs. Brandon Culbreth threw 5 strong innings, as he allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. Raul Rivera went 2 innings and allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. What are some of the names on the GCL and DSL teams that a lay person like myself should look for? Are there any significant or genuine prospects down that low or is that more for international talent that may or may not pan out? I ask because I usually pay close attention to the tellitlikeitis updates from AAA all the way down to low A ball, but my eyes kind of glaze over at the GCL and DSL teams because I don't know most of them (last year was a bit of an exception since Correa was on one of those for a time).
GCL and DSL leagues I generally only pay attention to high draft picks from high schools or big signing bonuses. Payano is the only guy I am following right now at DSL. I'll be following Nicely, Nottingham, and Martin. It may not be a good time to look at these guys though as it is still very early in their development (a.k.a. these guys for the most part have had a rough start this year to put it mildly)
