Thanks for the clarification, Bima. So, I've made those changes in the table below. NIKEStrad's proposed Smith/White trade would seem to get us there. It'll be interesting to see how Morey and co. handle this.

 

I actually had thought Bima meant that we had to have capholds UP to the 12th roster spot BEFORE signing Dwight. Dwight would be "like" a 13th player, until he signed and took over that 12th roster spot. Your original chart (2 pages earlier) had Dwight as the 12th player at signing. This one has him as the 14th. I think he need only be the 13th, i.e., you can shave $490k off your table right there.

Also, if we waive and stretch White, his salary will then become roughly $570k a yr on our cap instead. Add to that the roster spot he'd create and you get $1.06M, saving us about $700k. That would not require us having to try to find someone to take his contract.

That means we would not be $1.4M short but only about $200k short. Dwight would most likely agree to $20.3M the first yr I imagine/hope.

 

Actually nm, I'm being silly. I glanced too quickly and had not realized Tyler's count was just the money owed him haha. This chart is correct. We're short $700k then (if we waive and stretch White). Drats.

 

I think Morey's working on a deal where he can dump White's entire contract on someone else. He's done it before to put the Rockets under the luxury tax line. Like once with Steve Francis where he sent cash and a 2nd rounder. The Rockets still have the Knicks 2nd rounders and $2mil in cash. I think that's more than enough for a team like the Bobcats to take a flyer on White. No need for the stretch provision. Also, trading White may allow the Rockets to keep James Anderson. So it's not like the Rockets would be giving away assets for nothing.
