Total 26.3 million viewers. Second highest ever behind LA-BOS G7 in 2010. Still pales in comparison to the numbers in 98 in Jordan's "final" year, game 6 got 78 million estimated viewers.

The only way NBA can hope to get those numbers again is if LeBron really becomes the greatest of all-time...but he has a long way to go. He needs to win 3,4,5, and 6.

Damn 78 million??? I don't think thats possible anymore in this day and age. There are just way too many channels now, plus the internet. The only way it might be happen is if (God forbid) LeBron and friends formed a super team in New York, and they played another super team on the Lakers.

So it'd be third highest behind LA-BOS and 98 then.

I meant second highest ever on ABC. NBC destroyed those ratings in the 90s

Yup, people don't understand how ridiculously popular Jordan was. He was, and still is, an icon that transcends multiple generations. Lebron is mostly popular with the younger generation.

He needs to keep winning for more of the general public to tune in. But 26 million is a lot considering the general public doesn't care for the Spurs.

Honestly, I don't know if he can ever come close to Jordan's popularity. In my opinion, he never will, and it isn't because of his amazing talent, or how many titles he wins, it's because of something Jordan had when he was playing that was damn near indefinable. His charisma, combined with his talent, combined with the titles, hell, his looks. It went far beyond basketball. I think Dream was the greatest basketball player of that generation, but Jordan will always remain the perceived greatest, then, now, and always. James will never touch that. He might in a basketball sense, someday, but never will he be the totality that was Jordan during his salad days as a player.

It's more than just becoming the greatest of all time. The NBA and Jordans people worked incredibly hard on the Jordan brand. Remember the smile in the Gatorade commercials? I wanna be like Mike campaign etc. etc.

Look, I have never been a fan of Jordan, but they did a Helluva job marketing him, along with his greatness of course. LeBron just doesn't have that appeal and he's done himself no favors along the way.

Winning and seemingly growing up has helped repair LBJ's reputation, but he's no MJ.

that would make 4 years in a row that the NBA Finals has bested the MLB World Series, and with Baseball ratings dropping unfornately i expect it to stay the same
