Do you get irritated when "black folk" speak like they are less educated than they are?

I'm listening to Lebron give an interview after the NBA championship win. He is clearly an extremely intelligent human being, but the guy is talking in a fashion like he can't speak as if he can't come of as being extremely intelligent. This seems to be a theme among "people of color".

I'm drunk so I figured I would post this!

I'm white and of scottish background....

I'm drunk too... but I know what you're saying. On the other hand, doesn't Wayne Brady get slack for sounding too educated? I guess at some level, we live by our expectation. It's truly the brave that don't.

Don't you act stupid when you're partying? Or super happy and delirious?

No one wants to sound like a banker all the time, especially if it's not their job. Blacks don't come from old money so take a guy like Will Smith when he's happy, and he acts a foo.

It's not race specific, more like cursing in your native tongue when someone throws water on you in the middle of the night.

Yes it irritates me when "black folk" do it, but it irritates me when all folk do it and they do it all the time. I've never understood why so many like to act like they aren't intelligent.

I was listening to Shade 45 with Wayne Brady awhile back and he was kind of on the same rant I had last night. He was pissed that "black" people and "white" people view him as less "black" because he doesn't talk like a "black" man.

    I like using excessive ".

No it's a "race" (whatever race is) thing. I like that I am even trying to give you a serious response. Even in white American culture sounding too smart is looked down on. That said anti-intellectualism is much greater in Latin and American black cultures. However, it is interesting now though that the dorky hipster culture is kind of taking over within black America. I remember a few years back joking around with one of my friends how it used to be not cool to pronounce a 'g' on the end of 'ing' in hip hop, but then guys like Lil Wayne seem to have popularized the use of 'g' on the end of 'ing'.

I don't know it's partly an American thing. It's amazing that we are by far the most successful country in the world, yet so anti-intellectual at the same time.

I just woke up with alcohol still in my system so I am still able to comfortably rant about seemingly inappropriate stuff. #pauladeen #workers #butter

Oh man I was hammered. I actually have an "undrank" shot of scotch next to my computer. That would have made no sense to drink it, but I still poured it last night. I guess I had to keep the party going in my head.

I agree there is an element of anti-intellectualism in popular culture in the USA. But USA popular culture is one of the lowest form of ways one should even compare themselves to. If your friends make fun of you for being too smart, maybe you should look for new friends.

Why is he "clearly extremely intelligent"? He doesn't seem like an idiot, but I would say he is probably average at best.

Growing up it certainly was never cool to sound smart. It was cool not to try at school. Now my friends certainly don't make fun of me for learning stuff and being smart, but I only have about 2 friends who I can talk to about crazy intellectual stuff with.

Well the way he has got over his ****ty upbringing leads me to believe he is very intelligent. While he may not be inventing cold fusion techniques he is one of the smartest basketball players to ever play imo. Winning at games shows a high level of intelligence to me.

Also, I was drunk when I posted that so the "extremely" part may have been hyperbole lol.

Of course being an intellectual isn't considered cool in this country. It has been that way for a long time. It's getting worse. Look at what we celebrate in this country. Athletes make millions. Actors make millions. People line up in droves to see Kim Khardashian, even though she has no discernible talent. I still can't figure out why the hell she is famous. Don't even get me started on Honey Boo Boo.

Meanwhile, people in intellectual and scientific endeavors often have to try to eke out a living.

I think this may be how Rome fell.
