I'd be stoked if we managed to pick up Schröder. In some ways, he has the most upside of any PG in the draft (though I'd still bet on Burke being the best player of the bunch). He has better physical tools than Burke and Larkin, better offensive/scoring ability than Carter-Williams, and better PG skills than McCollum. If he adds some strength, he has a fairly complete package for a guy his age. I figured he was coming over this year regardless, though, so I don't know if a "stash year" will work out with him.

If we're dead-set on picking a foreign prospect, this is how I'd rank them:
    1) Schröder [PG]
    2) Gobert [C] I'm skeptical about his fluidity and his ability to grow skill-wise, but there's something about a 7'9" wingspan that you can't say no to, even with a history of busts.
3a) Karasev [SF] Don't know if he has a ton of upside, but he's a sweet shooter who could eventually be Parsons' backup.
3b) Adetokumbo [SF/PF] I don't think his offensive skills will really translate (the competition he faced was poor), but I like him for his defensive upside. He's super-long and could be a really versatile defender.
    5) Jean-Charles [PF/SF] He's a pretty unique prospect who can faceup from the 4 spot. But he doesn't have great physical tools, and I don't think we need another undersized 4.
    6) Noguiera [C] Recent riser, but I think he has bust written all over him. Just lacks the burst and physicality/muscle to make an impact, with his average skill-level.

TRob right now has Birdman potential. He could be the super effective big off the bench that gives you 20 game changing minutes

OK, then how would you clear cap?

He's 18 years old, so he's probably at least a few years away from contributing for the Rockets.

true but those players are not too hard to acquire.

it's much harder to get a player like dwight.

If the Rockets are high on T-Rob's potential, then the most prudent thing to do would be to keep him until they actually reach an agreement with Dwight. If that time ever arrives, the Rockets can contact any team that is (a)under the cap, or (b)has a TPE, or (c)has an unguaranteed expiring. Offer them T-Rob or Asik. Remember, once Dwight is signed then Asik becomes a very expensive backup. If T-Rob is any good, then it might make more sense to keep him than Asik.

The Rockets would go through all that trouble if they're actually high on T-Rob's potential. The fact that they're pre-emptively trading him makes me think they're not high on him at all.

I just hope they know that Howard is coming here before they make this move.

I really don't think we should draft Adetodunbo (if given the chance). I mean it has nothing to do with him being black, I just feel that he won't develop nicely.

Chase Budinger got traded for a pick straight up last year a couple days before the draft.

That's gonna be a strong draft. This draft is very very weak.

Thanks for the clarification, basketballholic. I knew what I was thinking was too simple, but didn't know where it went astray.

if we are talking about high picks, which in this case is unlikely.

It's that what it's about? High upside players? Not many in this draft. There might be a record of overseas players drafted in the first round this year since the U.S. crop is so weak after the first 3 picks.

How do you include a pick from this year's draft in a sign and trade for Howard if we can't negotiate with him until July 1st?

What are the chances that Houston uses the pick for someone that can actually help the Rox next year? Will Morey still go with "best available," or will he take someone who wouldn't normally qualify in order to keep them overseas for a year?

Would Dwight be more interested in winning next year or having an extra million?

the #9 and #10 pick are rumored to be available:

"....On the trade front there are at least three lottery picks that are very available. Minnesota and Portland, along with the aforementiond Mavs, continue to reach out to teams to discuss potential deals as their respective draft picks are available to the highest bidder....."

Portland only has 9 players under contract & is about $12 million under the cap. I think they may be interested in T-Rob for the #10 pick since I guess they will not resign J.J. Hickson because they will still have $$$ left over for a free agent or do you think the Blazers would prefer one of the likely available bigs in that draft range (Cody Zeller, Steven Adams, Lucas Noguiera, Rudy Gobert) as a better compliment to Aldridge, Leonard and Freeland? I think T-Rob fits that team nicely and if they are looking to trade their pick, I guess they don't like those players very much.

I really don't think the Rox care to much at this point. They just need to shed salary for attempt to sign max player.

If the pick is late or at the tale end of the draft it won't matter much.

I think Schroeder is a future All-Star and he could be 3rd string point guard next season.
