Maintenance guys won't fix my fridge because its not causing problems and is cooling fine. I believe it's the defrost fan is frozen or something. When I press the back vent I can hear ice crunching. No one tell me the freezer is too full or that something is blocking the vent because that is not the case. It's only problem is really that is it's extremely loud and I'm worried it's running more electricity trying to defrost every 30 minutes.
Original Video - More videos at TinyPic
Oh God so many... everytime they come it's not making the sound. First time the guy came and used his wetvac to vacuum the coils. 10 minutes after he left, it started making the sound again. So I call him up again. He knocks on the door and says "oh yeah I forgot to tell you, give it 24 hours before we see if it worked or not." Well that was a Saturday and he don't work on Sunday so Monday rolls around and I see him outside. He ask if its still doing it I tell him yeah and this time there was ICE at the top of the refrigerator and the brita pitcher I use for my water had ice in it and that had never happened before... He says "hmmm maybe you have the fridge turned too cold." Which made an ounce of sense I guess but I've had the refridgerator at the same setting for 5 years with no issues. I called AGAIN a few days ago and the lady at the office says to me "I'll see what I can do...." 5 days later and still nothing.
You need to manually defrost it from the sounds of it. If ice was building up so much that you can see it then that's the issue.
Are you the same person that climbs up the transformer to shut it down and turn it back on when you get home?
Do you have an ice maker? If so than check the water hose in the back of fridge and make sure its connected and flush mounted. Most likely it pulled away from the back and when the ice maker called for water it missed the ice maker reservoir and leaked down to the fan. Next thing is to unplug unit and let it completely defrost then you should be fine.
Yes and it wasnt the TRANSFORMER just my little switch box that is 20 feet away from my kitchen. no big deal.
No ice maker. I guess I'll try to unplug it for a while but I don't have anywhere to put my frozen goods. I guess Ill keep them in the fridge with the fridge shut and then I can open my freezer door. Maybe even put a heater in there.
I've put eveyrthing in the freezer in the fridge and cut the power off to let it defrost, its been 1 hr 15 minutes.... im praying that in 20 mintues when i cut it back on it wont make the buzzing noise.
letting it defrost manually didnt work it's been running for 2 hours now. On to try the flange basket jiggle.
There is obviously ice build up around the fan based on how youve described it. 2 hours is not going to defrost this completely. Can you get to the fan? There should be screws attached to the cover probably need a phillips or nut driver for this. Once you get the cover removed you should see your issue. Another thing is that there is styrofoam underneath the cover and ive seen where pieces of it have gotten broken off in the fan unit causing the same noise you described.
***UPDATE*** 6/24 So early Sunday morning I took everything out of freezer. Tried taking off the back panel inside the fridge. I took out the 4 screws but there seems to be 2 other screws coming in from the OPPOSITE side of the panel that holds the fan in place. I used a hair dryer for an hour or so until I could see no more ice dripping from the back when I pulled the panel back to take a peak. No sound the entire day.... until at 2AM this morning. I'm thinking ok, I can live with this if it is only going to do the sound when I'm asleep. But it has come on several times today as well as acting weird. The freezer now seems to be getting too cold. Every thing in the freezer has frost on it, and most of my items in the fridge are freezing up. At 9am this morning I turned the fridge thermastat to a 6 from a 7.5 and things are still icey. Why in hell would it be doing this?
Your thremastat gauge may have gone out. If it is not working then the freezer does not know that it needs to shut down and it keeps running. That is why your fridge section is too cold as well. The part runs about $40-50 but you gotta have someone install it.
