Kevin McHale "The sky is the limit for Patrick Beverley"

Why would we want a PG that takes the ball away from James Harden, unless his name is Chris Paul? Btw, Patrick Beverly was well on his way to taking a solid amount of Jeremy Lin's minutes even before Lin got hurt, so I don't buy it.

All rookies in the NBA get in foul trouble. Bev was also on double secret probation (in my opinion) because he was involved in Westbrooks injury and he got whistled really close. I don't think it will be a problem next season.

This is odd, but that block on Dirk at the end of this video from help side reminded me so much of Hakeem helping out. That was sick.

I actually liked the play of Toney Douglas on the Rox. Fortunately, Morey/Coach McHale & their Staff have a Keen Eye for talent such as Lin, Bev, AB, etc. ;)

You can start Bev but Lin will have to come in the 8 min mark and play the rest of the first quarter cause Bev will have picked up his second SILLY foul. I love the Lin hate that this thread is intended to be masquerading as a Bev highlight thread.

You can tell from the Highlights Beverley's advantage is his defense, some great blocks there. And he can knock the 3 down in a relatively consistent fashion. His weakness is his inability to create offense. He's solid role player, a good backup maybe even a starter because the team has Harden, doesn't require the PG to create. His assists shown in the highlights are mostly just passes to the shooter. He would have played much worse on a different team, just like Tony Douglas. Also because of his try hard on court, he's easy to get into foul trouble, that was shown during playoffs.

I don't understand why people can claim he's way better than Lin. Beverley is a good fit to Harden (actually any PG can knock down open 3 and play decent defense fits Harden, no offense creativity required), but Lin is just a better PG that a lot of teams need. The offense creativity part is what separates PGs. I think Beverley can be a Derek Fisher (hate him) type guy for a championship team. It would make sense to trade Lin if there is a good trade available to make us a championship team.

if Bev is a better fit, then a Lin trade would make EVERYONE happy. Maybe not Lin though, but he'll get over it when he gets to dominate the ball.

You mean you don't like admitting that another player has superior qualities to a certain player?

Beverley had a great season, all things considered.

If you didn't realize, bev is also a pg and needs to handle the ball. He is just smart. He does anything to win. He drives once he gets the ball. He shoots if open. He makes smarter plays then Lin.

Then we should just make Harden the point guard and have him iso, get tired from having too big of a load, and then b**** about his defense.

Dude that's pretty lame. You are basically insinuating that Lin is selfish. No matter what fans might think, the actual players on the team care a helluva a lot more about the team's success.

Stop being such a hypocrite. You hate on any posters who are critical of Lin and hate on anything Beverley, Harden, Mchale, with a passion that makes any posters in this thread look tame. Someone says "he sucks, trade him", and each time you take it as a personal attack. How dumb is that?

Anyway. Does anyone have the video of the Ukraine dunk contest where he "dunks over a 7 footer" a la Nate Robinson? Been looking for it forever!

All things considered? How exactly was he meant to perform better then what he did coming in midseason? He gave us everything we needed and then some, and allowed us to gamble on Trob (yet to see if that will pan out) with douglas getting shipped out.

He doesn't hate Beverly. I don't hate Beverly. Beverly is a nice backup PG that has some nice potential.

But there's nothing solid to these wild claims that Beverly is a better player than Jeremy Lin. Can you really say he's a better defender when he's so much more prone to defensive fouls? Does accidentally injuring the enemy star PG by colliding into him make you a better player? And offensively, Lin is still overall the better player by far; the only attribute Beverly is superior on is those mid-range runners and floaters that Lin still hasn't added to his game.

The Bev > Lin camp is just a subset of the any PG > Lin camp. In fact, it's the refuge of last resort for Lin haters after a season of them repeatedly proposing we trade Lin for every PG in the league, especially since it's clear CP3 is not coming.

Beverley fits the role of back-up PG superbly. High energy, change of pace, good pressuring defense, not needed tone consistent every night, and fits well next to Harden as Harden can mask his very average PG skills and he can cover somewhat Harden's porous defense.

It's a great fit, another Morey gem.

And if Beverley continues to improve, he'll be very good. But court vision and ability to run offense/pass doesn't usually develop much in the mid 20s. He's cheaper than Lin, and weighted by contract he is much better value than Lin (off-court stuff excluded), but the NBA is where offense gets paid premium and defense gets paid relatively less (unless you're 6'11 and above).

Lin has to prove he is more than an average starting PG (ie better than a top 14-20 PG), while Beverley needs to prove he is one of the best back-up PG or is worthy of starter status. He has a better chance of doing this on teams like the Rockets, Lakers and Heat will ball-dominant SGs/SFs, but I would doubt outside of these teams any other GM would covet Beverley for a starting PG role. But almost any team could use his cap friendly contract as a back-up PG.

Forget starting PG, Bev first needs to prove he can actually play the PG position. Because at this point of time, his court vision and passing are extremely subpar.

Better than Tony Douglas at least...
