I'm truly amazed at how quickly United has ruined the reputation of what was once Continental in such a quick period of time. We all know about the initial things they did to sour things 1. Mass layoffs in Houston 2. Lobbying for Hobby to not be an international airport 3. Increase in fees overall But today I think was the tipping point for me. Within this one week, they've added revenue requirements to hit elite status AND today at midnight without warning added a slew of new award ticketing fees. So unbelievabely they've managed to ostracize elites and non-elites within a few days. The good thing is with other airlines like Turkish and Air China coming into IAH and Southwest going international in a couple of years United will suffer because they are making people suffer. FU United Airlines
We all know what this is really about da1 http://citizensvoice.com/news/multimillion-dollar-airport-access-road-project-approved-1.1475468
I've flown United, I think, twice in my life. EASILY the rudest employees of any airline. Not even a competition. Maybe they've gone through so many management/ownership/merger changes that the employees began to adopt a hell-with-it atttude, but it was no fun being treated with an f-off attitude when just asking for help. So I don't fly United if it can be helped.
They are so bad. You can still tell when you get an old Continental crew or a United crew. Luckily for me, my dad works for United (survived the layoffs), and the whole family gets free flights. Can't beat $25 first class flights.
We flew United to Puerto Rico before boarding Seaborn to hit Tortula then the private boat to Peter Island last week. The staff was great, but First Class in the 737-900 is Business Class at best. At least the 900 gave you your own TV/Direct TV, outlets to plug your pad/iPod in, cold drinks and hot peanuts lol. We flew in one of the old 737-800's back- flip down screen in like 1980's resolution, one movie, no outlets and it smelled. Also warm beers and stale nuts. I didn't try the food as I always bring my own on the plane, and it didn't look edible. I would also give a quick EAT **** to American. They shut down their small fleet that goes to Tortula and never notified us so we had to sit in that tiny stinkhole of an airport for 2 hours with no ac and cats roaming everywhere trying to fix our return flight issue. We were supposed to arrive on the island at 6pm, WE GOT THERE AT 11pm. We got lucky on the way back since Amex travel over booked our flight back but 5 people didn't show up, otherwise we would have been there for 6 hours and missed our plane back to Houston. On top of that we still had to pay change fees which I'm fighting. I really dislike all airlines period.
I agree that United sucks as far as customer service but IAH being a hub they are still cheaper than most and with direct flights. Delta and American are far worse and the only decent discount airlines are Southwest and Jet Blue. Not many choices left for the American consumer and I for one really miss the Continental days as well.
United Club is still very nice at IAH though. Free drinks, wi-fi, upstairs and downstairs recliners, showers, etc.
I haven't flown them since the merger and subsequent layoffs of Houstonians. I try to stick to Southwest as much as possible. With the SW credit card, the points add up to flights much faster with minimal fees to use. Plus, there are no restrictions on what flights you can take. Some just cost more points than others. And you can't argue with 1st checked bag free. I don't mind the boarding process because I'm typically neurotic about checking in the minute I'm able to...so I usually get A-group no matter what.
Agreed. Turkish Airlines was by FAR one of the nicest planes/flights I've ever been on. Just fantastic service, seats, leg room, amenities, staff, etc.
The great downfall started when they stopped the Continental Express flights to/from Ellington and IAH. Nuff said.
Frontier is pretty good. Wouldn't surprise me if the former management from Continental worked there now.
Even though you brought the name calling, I'll still throw a couple of quarters in your cup on my way home. No worries.
The customer service of United is appalling, they really managed to ruin Continental. I fly southwst when possible. so true United First class sucks ass compared to most airlines, guess you don't travel much
Actually, I do well for myself and I'm happy where I am professionally, and personally, but obviously I'm not on your level because I don't endlessly brag about the trips I've taken recently on a forum. So, yes please, give me your crumbs and change, Warren Buffett.
