The last link I posted was just the old FAQ that explained the details for the DRM, as previously announced. MS now has an update saying the information is now outdated since they decided to change some policies, based on feedback from the community (effective 6/19). They link to a page with the newest info, but the page doesn't exist yet.
Lost some good stuff. Sharing downloadable games, selling downloads, and playing games without the disc were all nice features.
Salvy BETTER come here to complain about MS removing DRM or else he is a total hypocrite if he defends this change.
I don't think they ever detailed how shared games would really work. I think if they kept with that plan, the full details would have disappointed many...no way it would work as well as it sounded. Why even bother with a lending policy then? Much better to go with this plan. Kudos to MS for listening to the feedback. (Now let's start complaining about charging for online play!)
People will still have an issue with the price and Kinect so I'm not sure how many people this will win back for MS.
Price doesn't help (Kinect either, but it is not as big of a deal), but it should win back a lot of people IMO. I wouldn't even consider one before this. I'm still leaning towards PS4 (suits my gaming tastes more), but I'd definitely like to get a Xbox One at some point now. Crimson Dragon and possibly Crimson Dragon RPG may have a chance now!
Hmm... Now I have to get one just so I can see what happens when I plug a PS4 into a Xbox One. That could be some epic gaming.
What about the idea of smart matchmaking, watching tv while getting invites from various games. Putting a disk into the system kinda sucks
Yup, I concur. Previously I was going to vote with my wallet and just not get an XB1. But now with this reversal, I'm still leaning PS4 and still see no real need to get both (none of Microsoft's exclusives have grabbed me yet), but at least it's a possibility now. If XB1 gets an exclusive that I feel I just can't go without, I can see myself getting one down the line.
Can still do that stuff. For the disc part, just buy all the games through XBL. Problem solved. Turns out you can pretty much do the same thing as before, only now you have options!
So much for the "tiny minority" argument. MS took a look at the numbers and crapped their pants. PS, finally an example of capitalism delivering something positive to the consumer. It's certainly been a while.
