I agree with your assessment except I think the 7.5 you gave it may be a little bit high. I too laughed at the absurdity of him going to work at the Daily Planet after at least half the city was leveled. The second half, while the special effects were good, was just plain ridiculously silly.
That dumb comment at the end between the General and the female Major was just awfully stupid and made me dislike the movie even more. General: What're you smirking at? Major: Cuz he's hot. Stupid stupid stupid and a horrible attempt to get cheap laughs.
That's my opinion. We all know they are like buttholes. As for the new batman trilogy, I hated Batman Begins. The Dark Night ranks just under the Avengers in my book, and the last one was okay, way better than Man of Steel, but nowhere close to the Avengers. My personal rankings: 1) The Avengers 2a) Spiderman 2 2b) The Dark Knight 4) Spiderman 1 5) Iron Man 1 6) Superman 2 (from the early 80's) 7) X-Men I may be forgetting one I can't think of any others that would make my list. 6)
How can anyone hate Batman Begins? Does this mean I can discard your opinion on Man of Steel? Your ranking seems very odd to me - I don't think too many people would share this opinion.
Don't mind him. Obviously a Marvel fanboy judging by his rankings. I wish he'd explain how Avengers is a better movie than TDK.
Sure you can disregard my opinion of Man of Steel. That's the wonderful thing about opinions, we all have one and they are all different. I hated Batman Begins and I hated Man of Steel. Hopefully, the second Man of Steel will hit a grand slam home run like The Dark Knight did. They better get some better writers than they had for this movie though as this is one of the most poorly written movies I have seen in any genre.
i didn't think the Avengers was that special. good film nonetheless man of steel is a good film but not great. best trilogy? Toy Story
Yeah, it's probably too high. I was going to give it a 6.0, but I really enjoyed the first half of the flick. If only they had quit there! ;-)-
There were some quirks (already mentioned by others) but I really enjoyed it. Second half could have been much better. Action: 10 CGI: 9 Story: 7 Acting: 8 Ending: 5
I grew up reading Marvel and DC comic books. I do not prefer one to the other. In fact Superman, or at least the version I grew up with, was my favorite superhero. I have a feeling I am older than most of the people contributing to this thread. Someone said the Superman comics changed in the mid to late 80's while I outgrew comic books in the very early 80's. I believe that has a lot to do with why I disliked this film so much. I was so looking forward to this movie from the first time I heard it was being made. I can't put into words how disappointed I was in this movie. This movie was not about the Superman I grew up reading. As to why I disliked Batman Begins, is because Batman has been done too many times and is getting old to me although the Dark Knight was a truly awesome movie. As for why I think The Avengers is the best, I thought it was very well written and directed. The movie had action, humor, and flowed very well. The Dark Knight was awesome but just not as good as the Avengers to me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and my opinion comes from a very old fashioned viewpoint .
You got out right when Batman peaked but also got out well before some of the cheesier stuff. If you got out in the early 80's I'm not sure you know who Batman is supposed to be.
I loved how the movie started and really enjoyed the Zod villains. The dark aspect of the story was awesome. Great call making those guys straight up killers rather than doing the comedy type thing of the original Superman villains. The Lois Lane stuff was horrible, lame, and nearly ruined the movie. Some of the action at the end was too long and that he's hot line was ridiculously out of place. Enjoyed it, would have enjoyed it a lot more without Lois Lane.
Action was great, but story was a turd pile. Couldn't wait for it to be over. Zod was a disappointment but I did enjoy watching the chick fight. The director needs to learn that in order to make an action sequence more impacting it helps to have lulls in the fighting. The first Matrix wasn't non-stop action.
Just saw it at Sundance, and was very let down. 5/10 Spoiler I love Michael Shannon, but he just didn't work as Zod for me. I wasn't very impressed by Cavill. Also, still having flashbacks near the end of the film to set up the main character? Weak. I just think it was the wrong villain and story for the first in a trilogy. Should have started off smaller scale, and progressed to something this big.
