Since Nolan's batman doesn't exist in this universe I'm curious how the rogues gallery will present and the other characters like flash, Martian, ww and gl. I liked how marvel created enough continuity based on a grounded ironman but with dc losing a grounded batman I think it's going to lose the darkness and get more gimmicky. I hope I'm wrong.
I meant to say we lost the batman from Nolanverse but now we'll have a new batman, I'm curious to see how he holds up ad far as grounded or ungrounded. Honestly i got so used to nolan's that other iterations looked odd. I like arkham verse batman, and I hope that's how he's interpreted into the mos sequels/ justice league.
This Blog was an interesting take on it http://thrillbent.com/blog/man-of-steel-since-you-asked/ It is spoilerific but . . I tend to agree with a lot of it. Was going to post it here but don't wanna spoiler the movie too much Rocket River
Nolan's Batman is the definitive Batman IMO. He and his brother should write comics like Whedon. I'd prefer DC just keep Batman out of this and continue the Nolan version. I realize ditching Batman isn't an option so I can live with them continuing the old story as opposed to a reboot. Superman/DC doesn't need the Batman character to sell movie tickets or make better movies, if anything including him just makes it that much harder to create believable (lul) stories.
Uhhh I don't know about that....I absolutely loved the trilogy but they sacrificed certain traits of Batman and moved them over to another character to give him more of a purpose in that Wayne ceased being the "Detective" as Ra's A Ghul always called him. Wayne had advanced tech to lead him in the right direction but they gave all his above average natural detecting skills to Alfred who was providing all the meat of the investigations to Bruce by leaning on his old profession as a intelligence officer. Given that they are going to reboot him as enough statements have been made in the past week to indicate that I would like to see them take him back in that direction of being a great fighter but an even better natural criminal investigator. The Dark Knight trilogy was a great alt universe graphic novel kind of adaptation but when they do reboot I hope they move it more central to the traditional comic canon while maintaining some of the realisms that they created in the trilogy that made it so great.
lol yesterday we saw a link to Dan Harmon's reaction to Community s4, and now Mark Waid's reaction to Birthright as a movie. Spot on: Spoiler "The essential part of Superman that got lost in MAN OF STEEL, the fundamental break in trust between the movie and the audience, is that we don’t just want Superman to save us; we want him to protect us. He was okay at the former, but really, really lousy at the latter. Once he puts on that suit, everyone he bothers to help along the way is pretty much an afterthought, a fly ball he might as well shag since he’s flying past anyway, so what the hell." Mark Waid is right that they didn't show enough concern for the dying people in city destruction. However, Waid doesn't consider that this may have been an intentional part of this revamped origin story where Jonathan Kent suggests that maybe Clark should have let the kids on the bus die, or Martha Kent saying "Go to Hell" which in other renditions would go against her character, or Clark not saving his father even. I also appreciate that this origin story gave a reason as to why he had to kill Zod and why he never wants to kill again, but I also felt that they didn't show the gravity of the move enough, either by acting or with the music. Ultimately, I think they just needed to make a longer movie to incorporate all of this stuff, because overall I was satisfied with the direction of the film, but they had to gloss over a lot of things to get the story done within 2.5 hours. I hope the posters in the previous pages are correct in suspecting a longer DC version of this movie that may show these missing parts.
I agree with some things. It is colder, but still emotional in a less campy way. I can see how superman fans would view the movie as a sci-fi story than a comic book movie, except the two crosses genres often that it's a geek distinction than a mass audience distinction. I mean I can proclaim on the internet in my angry nerd clothes how JJ Abrams is ruining the Star Trek franchise by making it feel more like Star Wars, but it's making dump trucks of money far more than the old beloved formula. About the disaster pr0n part, it's true, but audiences love disaster pr0n. I was thinking the same things while watching, "fly somewhere safe"..."dead people abounds in the Kansas fight", except 1) it's still gonna happen 2) I wouldn't see an epic city fight if the main battle was around "somewhere safe" like in the desert or forests. If one's complaints devolve into that, then he's just placing the director on an impossible worse or ****tier standard that people who have no hand in creating things love to do. As for the snap part, maybe that'll be built upon future movies. People want this complete-all-in-one story when the exact same ****ing comic book fans have tolerated ****tier and far more subpar origin movies in hope for something better. Maybe it's the Batman halo-effect which started the comic book reboot trend that's creating the ridiculous standard. But I'm thinking it's more of the hipster douchebag effect of "I need to be better than it all by hating something that general audiences are liking that used to be only mine."
Thoughts on this movie after having just watched it: Spoiler 1. I liked the intro when Jor-El and Lara helped move Kal to the ship. 2. I hated the crazy amount of flashbacks in the movie...couldve really done away with much of the flashbacks... 3. Why was Lois Lane even a character in this movie...really didnt need her...and the same with the Daily Planet...There really was no need for her story in this movie 4. The ruined the part with the cape...didnt like the fact that the cape was just tossed in the story line... 5. General Zod and his militants were just awesome...the fight scenes were really good... 6. I liked the concept of the Kryptonians being weak on Earth and how the inability to hone in on their senses were a huge advantage for Superman... 7. Once again, hated the idea that Clark watched his Dad die in the tornado...That was just not well thought out... 8. Once again, all the carnage, but only able to save Lois...kinda r****ded... 9. I wish that they were able to just elaborate on the planet krypton, and how things just degenerated a bit more... 10. They really shouldve been able to avoid having to really use Lois Lane in this story...now she knows about the Kent family, who Clark is...etc etc...That was just bad... 11. Overall the actions scenes were pretty decent, the story line was very poorly thought out, Cavil was a good choice for Superman, and Zod was a badass...They couldve made the movie much better...
Now that you actually mention it... yeah, Lois Lane does kind of ruin the story, it'd have been much easier to make a good 1st installment without her I'm sure. It's too forced as is.
I know it's unlikely due to the way DKR ended, but if we can get Christian Bales Batman involved in this universe, I would love that possibility. Just having Batman investigating and reacting to these destructive God-like Alien beings has so much potential. I realize any batman could do that, but Nolan and Bale made a perfect complimentary Batman to this man of steel.
I'm with that blog. Spoiler The death of Zod was a total betrayal of the Superman character, particularly since the film did nothing to build to it. It was WAY worse than Batman's "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you" line from the original Nolan movie. On top of it all, I'm supposed to believe that Superman is strong enough to break Zod's neck but not turn his head so he can't burn those survivors? And why couldn't those survivors just move? It was a terrible scene that really hurt the movie. It was bad enough by itself, but the total disregard for what was happening when the city was being totally leveled made it even worse.
Spoiler i can't agree with that. I thought a core idea behind the flashbacks was Clark Kent being asked to hold back for 30 years. He couldn't attack the school kids, he couldn't save his dad, he was lectured for saving others. The final battles were 30 years of holding back bent into one event. The destruction of the city and Him killing Zod showed his lack of experience in channeling his true powers. Besides Zod made it clear only on of them would leave alive. His yelp at the end showed his anger at the situation. I wish they would have gone more into his mind after that, but instead they just went immediately into a funny ending. So that sucked. I do hope MoS2 delves deeper into the effects and consequences of this films ending. But I'll have to wait some years.
The actual fight between supes and zod in metropolis was the same as any superman animated movie, which are great, the actual leveling of the city was mainly the world changer. ..I loved the whole terraforming bit. I don't understand why people are saying superman and zod leveled half the city.
I agree with this especially the bolded part. Spoiler One has to take into account as well is this isn't a fully finished experienced and Superman that has beliefs and morals in place as to how to act as Superman that we are all use to. This version is basically just a couple of weeks/months old..... he is incomplete and very much a work in progress as his. What we saw with Zod's death was/is probably the genesis for his no kill policy that he adheres to later on.
Because superman has the power to fly back in time and save the untold death of millions. Oh wait he only did that for lois in the donner movies. Memory has a nasty habit of cherry picking the most convenient moments
So who's going to be in the Justice League film? Henry Cavill as Supes Chris Bale as Batman Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern Chris Evans as Flash Jayden Jaymes as Wonder Woman Those are my guesses.
Just saw the flick in 3D IMAX at the AMC on 34th in Manhattan, and have a couple of comments without revealing any details. Loved the first half, thought the second half was beyond absurd, with the ending, considering what had recently happened to Metropolis, enough to make me laugh out loud if my ears weren't still ringing. 7.5/10 and would have been higher had the second half been remotely like the first half.
