oh schhiittt! my apologies brehs. I thought the spoiler would work. first time posting through my phone. Damm you phone! It took me like an hour typing all that too.
Only saw it in 3d and it felt like it was 2d except I was wearing stupid glasses. You didn't miss anything.
I enjoyed it. I was disappointed though. I felt that it only scratched the surface of the questions and concepts Snyder tried to convey in the movie. If they had cut a solid 20 minutes of action (because the action near the end just became too much) and replaced it with some actual meat, it would be a 9 for me. I won't go any further cause I'm too lazy to put spoilers on while on my iPhone. The good - The Smallville fight Faora Cavil as Superman and Shannon as Zod Clark's relationships with both Jonathan and Jor El The flashbacks (I'm one of the few who liked it apparntly) The bad- Tooooo much action Amy Adams as Lois Lane Very little plot development outside of Supes and Zod

Here's my take: 1. AWESOME fight scenes. Boom boom boom and then boom boom boom some more  2. Cheesy lines. I remember when the young Clark asked his dad about who he is and his dad gave it to him straight: he (Clark) was not one of them (humans) and maybe he could influence the world. I went from  to . 3. The story was too fast. One part he gets to know Lois and then a few moments later they were holding hands and then they were kissing. Again another for me. 4. Now that the base has been established, I'm looking forward to another sequel or sequels even. 5. 3.5/5. I added .5 because I'm a biased son-of-a-gun Superman fan
I saw it this afternoon. I really enjoyed it. Never felt the action was overwhelming. I've gone back and watched Superman, II, and Returns. I do think Man of Steel is the best Superman film. The Donner films might have been good for their time (and I grew up on them) but IMHO, they don't hold up very well. And even accounting for the time period when those films were made, there's A LOT of stupid **** in there. Things that would draw more eyerolls today than anything in Man of Steel. I think the reason Man of Steel got mediocre reviews while Returns got good ones is that in the mind of many critics, the Donner Superman IS the definitive version of the character and they don't like any deviation from that. Returns was intended to essentially be Superman III and there are a lot of callbacks to the 1978 original. Man of Steel is different from the Donner Superman they wanted and they reacted by giving it poor reviews. It's not a great movie, but it's certainly not a bad one. 7.5/10
Have you guys commented on the guy who played Superman yet? Out of all the actors who portrayed the man of steel, who is the best?
As I said earlier, I loved the movie. But there is one thing that bothered me. Too much was revealed in the trailers. I watched them all, and I found myself anticipating shots, "This is when Zod says that line, this is when Superman give that look...). I thought all of the trailers were fantastic, but they gave too much away. Not everything, but more than I'd have liked. The very first trailer I think was the best in hindsight. I understand that they need to generate interest and strive for feverish interest, but they went too far on this one. If you had seen all of the trailers going into it there weren't a whole lot of surprises. I seriously doubt that Hollywood will take that into consideration since the movie is breaking lots of box office records.
I'm not sure if that's true or not. I know that the Michael Keaton Batman was not as beloved as the Chris Reeve Superman, but the first couple of Batman films were well-received. Yet everyone, critics and fans alike, loved the Dark Knight series. I really liked the direction that Man of Steel was heading initially and thought it had a similar feel to the Nolan Batman series and then it turned suddenly and relentlessly into Transformers. I was disappointed to read that Nolan will have even less to do with the MoS sequel.
The beginning was great. A lot of action (CGI). The villian was very good acting-wise. The script was weak and cheesy at points. Overall, it was entertaining and the new "series" shows promise.
What's funnier is the complain about Batman was always the lack of action. Personally, I don't care much about action. Seems like something for a fan of Power Rangers or the WWF. I don't think it's about this movie having too much action, it's about this movie not having enough character development after about an hour in. It all came to a screeching halt and turned into one never ending battle. We're no asking for less action, we're asking for more story.
I give it a weak 8. Spoiler I loved the intro scene. The action was phenomenal, and anyone who didn't like the amount of it isn't really an action movie fan. The fights were big, worthy of Superman. Zod's flunkies were great, especially Faora-Ul. Zod was amazing and I as pulling for him at times. I enjoyed how they did his Kansas origin as short flashbacks as I didn't really need to see yet another Superman origin story. I loved how sci-fi they made the movie as well. And the subtle homages to earlier Superman film were great, including the whole liquid origin (original movies, TV show) told to Superman aboard the scout ship and Zod's two flunkies (Superman 2) dukeing it out with Superman on the Smallville main street. What I didn't like was how the supporting cast outside of Zod's contingent and Ma Kent was handled. Either Zach Snyder can't direct women worth a damn (something he's shown in his past movies) or the needed scenes with Lois were cut, because I just didn't buy the Lois/Superman relationship at all. It seemed forced, and the chemistry wasn't there, either. She was also everywhere Superman happened to be: in the Arctic, Kansas, Metropolis in just the right spot and outer space. It was really contrived to get Lois Lane more screen time. I also didn't like how the other characters were used everywhere. Somehow in a New York city-sized city Superman always ends up close to the Daily Planet contingent. And Christopher Meloni is an FBI agent, arctic dig site manager and a commando. I guess you can chalk it up to poor writing or Hollywood Exec meddling. Overall, I really dug it and would watch it again. It doesn't stand in the pantheon of great superhero flicks like Avengers or Dark Knight, but it does stand with the group of very good superhero movies like Captain America and Thor that are just under that.
