Have you tried removing the ink cartridge and replacing it? I don't know if they have replacement cartridges for big novelty pens, but if it is that important to you it could be worth a shot. I would just use a normal pen myself, since it is more awkward to write with the big ones.
I don't write with pens. Most likely due to my timid childhood upbringing. I was always fearful of making mistakes, thus I use only pencil to this day.
