He's not getting the respect and some people think he's Michael Bay with all visual and actions and no story telling. But actually you can see he's trying to make a serious movies with the visuals and the actions while Michael Bay knows he's just good at blowing up **** and make a fun and stupid movies that people will eat up at the BO. I have to give Zach Snyder credit for trying. I think his editing of his movie is one of his problem. I totally enjoyed his Watchmen.
300, Watchmen and Man of Steel are in the 50s on metacritic. What's up with that?! I liked 300 but never got the chance to finish it. Watchmen started off a little slow. I didn't finish on my first time watching it. Then my friend made me finish Watchmen and i'm glad that he did that. Watching Man of Steel has the same vibe watching 300 and Watchmen. I liked it. Next up, Elysium!!
Def enjoyed the fight supes had with faora and the massive guy but I didn't see the need they had to regroup after that one and the previous fight with zod. I felt supermans strength was not consistent throughout the movies. Than again it's hard to gauge his strength and keep it so that he's not invincible.
This movie was awesome and probably one of the best flicks I have seen in a long long while. If the good the bad and the ugly is a 10 I give this 8.5 perhaps even 9. Maybe it's true the level of sucktitude of movies over the years has lowered my standards a bit, but this was a really really good movie considering it was released in 2013. I am so over hollywood I only watch movies at home. The last movie I actually saw at the theater was the last superman. The last movie I saw before that at the theater was either the 3rd matrix movie, or the revenge of the sith since I cant remember which one came out before. So safe to say I am not a movie goer. This movie was infinitely better than the dark knight. I firmly believe people jocked the dark knight so much only because heath ledger died. It became 'cool' to claim to all how much you loved dark knight. That whole flipping the coin 2 face part in dark knight was a joke, and was so campy and ridiculous that I can't even fathom past that one scene alone. The intellects err 'discerning' folks will try to tell me the 2 sides of two face and how freaking deep etc etc but it was all out lame. With this superman yes it moved quickly but they were really trying to tell a story with lots of content. We can't spend 45 minutes in niagara falls guys with superman and lois. Those of you that think the donner versions were better I feel bad for your existence. And that is coming from me an old guy that was there for the donner versions first go round. also the last version had freaking kevin spacey in it and couldnt be saved. And for those complaining about fight scenes and too much pace why don't you go pickup a copy of lost in translation, take a valium and call me in the morning. ITS A FREAKING ACTION MOVIE WITH A FIGHT AGAINST ZOD. were they supposed to beat each other up with pillows and strongly worded statements? only complaint was could have gone with a little more badassery of superman as a kid.. and also wish they could have had the superman theme music. All my other complaints about this movie are so minor that I would have to be nitpicking really hard. Yes it seems like the reviews are all across the board and put me firm on the side of loving this movie. Miss Teschmacher those are two comparisons we don't use in the same sentence. Discerning tastes? BWAHAHAHHAHA Agree to disagree I suppose.. Suck it haters. MOVIE OF THE YEAR
So...just saw it. It was what I expected. The special effects were outstanding. The writing was horrible...I don't even need to go into specifics, if you saw the movie you know what I'm talking about. Definitely better than Superman returns, but...they have a lot of work to do if they're trying to compete with Marvel movies. Good movie though...if you're going to see a live action comic you won't be disappointed.
Action and fight scenes were awesome. But wow, story/writing was horrible. Some of the scenes were unbearable to watch. I heard a lot of people laughing throughout the movie in my theatre.
I watched it in 3d but rather have watched it in high def. Shaky cam sucks ass. Wastes all that nice special fx. I thought it was a great movie. Worthy reboot.
Every pull quote from negative reviews I've seen on Rotten Tomatoes basically breaks down to "there's no humor/joy/romance...." OK, I just want to know if it's a good or bad movie, not how it doesn't fit your preconceived notion of what a Superman movie should be? All these critics want the Donner Superman all over again, which is exactly what we got with Superman Returns. It's not a perfect movie, I agree with people who think there are problems with the pacing, especially the nonstop action sequences of the third act. I also would have liked to see a bit of Superman saving people around Metropolis and the world first, before Zod showed up. I disagree with the complaints over character development and editing though. It was obviously a Goyer/Nolan story because it was just like Batman Begins. The flashing back in time to Clark's childhood to give you insight to why Clark was still hiding, yet we saw that even as a kid he couldn't help but help people. I thought we learned plenty about why Zod was doing what he was doing. He wasn't just bad the sake of being bad, he wanted to bring back his people at all cost, and his eugenic bent was not something he had completely come up with on his own, it was based on the way kryptonians and set up their society. The only thing I disagreed with in the Superman and Lois department is that maybe they shouldn't have kissed. She's only spent portions of 3 days with him. There should have been a spark obviously, a hint of things to come. Overall I was highly entertained, we got the super-being throw-down that I've wanted to see, though I think it was a bit much, so much destruction of Metropolis required more shots of citizens in just shock and terror. I can't imagine how you rebuild like half of a city in time for a 2nd movie unless Lex Luthor factors into that somehow.
I really liked it. One thing I wish they would have stolen for the original movie was the theme and placed it at the end credits.

This is what pi$$es me off about all the people who suddenly think they are movie critics, talking about things they know nothing about, and potentially ruining other peoples' experiences. You should NOT be using phrases like 'this hyped up movie is falling so flat', based solely upon what a bunch of people on the internet say. Go and see it with your own eyes and your own mind and decide for yourself. If it sucks to you, then it sucks for you, but if it's great for you, then why let someone else spoil things for you before you get a chance to decide for yourself? For every 'critic' you see saying things like it has bad 'pacing' (as though they even know what that means), or the characterizations were thin (again, as though they even know what that means), you will find just as many 'critics' who will say the exact opposite.
It was hyped up to be the Batman Begins/Dark Knight for Superman, the trailers certainly looked that way. It fell far from that. Was it a bad movie? Not if you're there to see Superman be 'Super'. If you were there for writing that was on par with..I dunno..those 2 movies I just mentioned? You're gonna be disappointed. I don't see anything wrong with what people are saying.
I know everyone has their own opinion, but you seriously though this was better than The Avengers????? I thought the Avengers struck the perfect cord of action and storyline while this movie was just almost pure action at a wide open pace with a very choppy almost hard to follow storyline. I thought this was very poorly written and directed although the special effects were awesome yet mind numbing after a while. I personally think the Avengers is the best superhero flick ever made while this may be the worst. To each their own but I will never understand how you arrived your conclusion between the two movies.
That's right! That's what I was trying to remember. Nero wrote one of the most out-of-left field I-hate TDKR and now he loves this movie. This movie was made for Grand Theft Auto / Call of Duty addicts. Not making fun. If I were 25 or under I might like it better. But the movie was all effects, no charm. Anyone else feel they were ripping off the Matrix quite a bit?
