That's the thing -- he never busts -- he has epic control and channels the energy of his orgasm back into his body. This is what gives him his super powers and also creates a paradox -- how did he get super powers in the first place?
I bet you think Transformers 2 and 3 are 9.5/10 movies too Ok, sure, having two equally matched very powerful opponents fighting is a bit cool, but you can't let that overlook the various glaring problems. Characters were barely developed, plot holes abound, the dramatic tension they tried barely worked, the pacing was terrible, lots of illogical stuff happening all around, way too much product placement (OH HEY FIGHT GOES INTO AN IHOP, NOW IT ENDS AT A SEARS), the romance with Lois was completely forced and stupid (i didn't feel any romantic tension there, just them liking each other so much because thats what had to happen), and half the huge city was destroyed and its like no one even acknowledges that. On top of that, the last 90 minutes or so are STRAIGHT action with hardly any breathers. THATS NOT GOOD PACING. THAT DOESN'T WORK. Go look at The Avengers or Iron Man 3. They both have various action set pieces and end on a big fight. But that big fight isn't longer then 15-30 minutes. and the set pieces throughout have breathers in between that push the plot forward and develop the characters better. THIS IS JUST 90 MINUTES OF PURE ACTION WITH NO DEVELOPMENT AT ALL. How can anyone besides a 12 year old who just wants to see things blow up think thats a good thing? I'm not comparing this to past Superman films, comics, or adaptations in general. I could probably find a whole load of problems I'd have it with it if I wanted to from that, but I'm not. I accept that this is a new adaptation and they can do their own things with it, and that doesn't affect the quality of the film. I'm judging this as a film, and its a garbage film.
Exactly. The Man of Steel is like that English cat in the flick Go. He boinked two chicks in Vegas while setting the room on fire, and never unloaded.
I so wish I could disagree with you, but these were my exact thoughts towards the end of the movie. I was literally sighing throughout the "climactic" battles that never ended. I mean, buildings were getting destroyed and superpowered beings were going at it and I was BORED OUT OF MY MIND. There was no real weight to any of it because most of the character and plot-building elements went by in poorly-edited disjointed flashes. I mean, of all the mistakes that could be made with this film, I really didn't think something as elementary as pacing would be so glaringly bad. It was very Michael Bay-esque.
Don't take this flick to be an accurate reflection of the comics. I've been reading supes for a while and am up on the latest New 52 issues of Superman and Justice League. Yes, Supes/Clark's origin and and characterization has changed quite a bit, and for the good, imo. I found the Donnerverse Superman and it's derivatives to be ridiculous, for the most part (save for The Animated series/Justice League Unlimited). But this movie doesn't even attempt to get into ANY of that. It's just popcorn action and wastes a lot of good source material. Very disappointing.
:not sure if serious: I thought the first 30 minutes, as well as the last 30, but the middle 90 could have been cut in half and the movie would have been better IMO. The battle & destruction scenes got very repetitive.
Well damn...can't remember the last summer blockbuster that was so hyped up to be great end up falling so flat. I'll probably still see it just to get my own opinion, but I'm not hopeful for anything great anymore.
Storyline wise and current character depth I agree. That said they are getting to the character that he is comically now. That is his basis. As for action wise we are fully there right off the bat now. The big blue invincible boyscout is gone and for once with the subsequent sequels we will get to see the flawed version of his character that exists today and has actually existed for quite a while now. I just hope they don't go full force into his "New 52" version as that version is starting to push my limits even more so now with all the soapy crap. I fully expect the next movie to flesh out the characters and relationships more now that a base has been set...my hope is we get to see: Spoilered for one Man of Steel spoiler.. Spoiler a story centered around Lex and Metallo maybe finding an amnesic Lara (from the comic tie in) to go up against Supes with the end result being Lex vs. Supes and Metallo vs. Lara. You could even throw in General Lane being associated with Metallo through his creation due to continued distrust of Superman by the military (fostered by Amanda Waller) which in turn would create some conflict for Lois. As for the Justice League and the other subsequent DC character movies it will be interesting to see how they handle all of this as all these characters and their some of the aspects of their creations (including Batman) will have their basis from the events in this particular movie as per David Goyer. Don't see how they are going to pull that off but again it will be interesting to watch to say the least.

I think the Superman story in general is just getting too played out. It may be beyond the hands of Hollywood to improve upon.
I enjoyed the movie but I wouldn't say it was "good." Definitely had a Michael Bay feel at the end. The city being destroyed was just too over the top and repetitive. I also marvel at how directors never seem to be able to grab the magnitude of the situation when those things happen. Go look at tapes of 9/11 and see how people were behaving on the ground in the moments after. Yet in movies, entire cities are just being absolutely demolished and people don't really react.
lol, Wow, this is almost exactly the story/scenario I've been wanting to see on the big screen for a while. I'm starting to doubt it will ever happen though.
MOS 7.0-7.5/10 I totally enjoyed it. I thought it was a much better super hero movie than The Avengers. A much better story and had some emotional impact. Sure The Avengers was fun but there was no real story behind it. I like the bold takes on the original MOS. I like where they were going with it. Maybe it needed 20 extra mins to flesh in some story for other characters but who are we kidding. Superman been done to dead. 5 movies and 2 TV series(Lois and Clark, Smallville). The editing was probably the problem with the flash back but his original already been done in the same way with Superman Returns and Superman The Movie. I was never a fan of Superman comic book. Growing up it was Spiderman and Hulk for me and mostly Marvel stuff. Superman was just too omnipotent for my take his super villians were pretty boring for me. My main complains would be for MOS is the constant camera shake which was annoying making it a bit amateurish. People were right to complain about too much actions and didn't leave much room to breath. I mean people complaining about Zach Snyder slow mo technique but I thought it needed in this movie. The actions was just too fast. They either need to slow it down just a notch or else they need to shoot it in 48 frames because it was just so chaotic and hard to see what's going on. The tentacle part was just a waste on money and CGI. I think it was trying too hard to match or top The Avengers actions and that could have been a mistake. More actions doesn't mean better. They should have concentrated on just a few bad ass fight sequences instead of some wasted CGI. This was totally a comic book Superman especially in the power and actions. I have to say I was wrong about Hans Zimmer. I thought he did a great job on the soundtrack. I think MOS and The Avengers should thank Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Ultimate DC Universe Online because they were the one that probably open the eyes of directors that this is how a super hero movies should be.
