Show some dignity. Common sense does not equate to 'judgmental perfect people'.

The fact that you can't seem to grasp the ethical dilemma in this situation is proof that you're in over your head here (or trolling very effectively).

You continue to defend what should be a charitable cause as 'business'. The moment you tried to sell it as a charitable contribution, you lost your footing.

    And I quote:
"I wonder how businesses would run if they let people dictate how much profit they are entitled to make on their own investments and work?"
    Very philosophical, not so practical.

Reduce the wrist-bands to 10 cents apiece, donate 100% to charity, and expect no return on your sunken costs. You're all set! No more hate fest.

Customers do dictate that by determining what is a reasonable price.

There is no efficient way to move them, because no one buys these things just for the hell of it. They buy them specifically to support and show support of charity, and you mostly took that aspect of it away. So you're left trying to move a bunch of trash. There's a reason there's no for-profit that sells this junk.

He told you he'd give you 10% of $400,000, which is $40,000, if you sold them. Am i understanding that right?

Then, where does the 40K donation come from, if that's all you're getting? Seems like the details have changed since the OP.

The best (worst) part of all of this is that when OP thought about posting this on the board he thought it was a good idea. He thought people would say things like "cool man" "that's awesome" "way to be a hero." He thought we'd call him Superman.

    LOL

I do like that the ones for sale on ebay are marked up another 50%. We're being offered them at a discount guys! That's clutchfans brotherhood at its finest.

Very misleading eBay listing. It does not specify the amount of bracelets being sold. There are 4 bracelets pictured, and the listing title says (plural) wristbands. Nowhere in the description does it mention how many bracelets are being sold. Had I not seen this thread where OP mentioned he was going to sell them each for $1, I would've assumed that I was getting 4 bracelets with my purchase.

Just a tip, OP and others with interest in selling eBay items, be clear and descriptive, or you may find yourself having to answer a lot of email questions from interested buyers, or worse, getting negative feedback from unsatisfied customers after purchases.

Clutchfans has been scammed before, so when a poster creates a thread about wanting to make money by using the fact that a small % will go to charity or needing money to eat there will be a backlash.

And then there is the fact that many houstonians hate the katrina victims that migrated to houston.

I think these are cool and a great way to commemorate a worthy natural and man-made disaster. Since it's for charity, if I buy one do I get free shipping?

    Felixthecat,

You asked for ideas. I have a serious reply,,,no really.

I bet those bracelets, if inter-weaved together, would make awesome belts for Mardi Gras. I'm talking girls belts (or gay one :) ) that are lose and hang at the hip at an angle; that is, just for show, not used for support. You'd need a buckle of some sort, but they should weave well, like we used to do as kids with rubber bands.

You might want to suggest the idea to a kraft artist at a festival.

In any event, I'd recycle those into clothing accessories of some sort. As single bracelets, not sure how salable they are. But together, they could make a different product.

I have to agree with the CF verdict on this one. 90% profit 10% charity for a disaster that is almost 8 yrs old now?
