I'm just commenting since I've been asking for him to have a bigger role for awhile... but why Ambriz would get time before him is beyond me. Glad to see Ambriz not pith in a close, low scoring game.

Even had he been available, the Astros wouldn't have taken him due to their draft philo$ophy from Uncle Drayton.

    Cut Castro. Trade Carter.

    Wait that's not right...

The Astros must teach their players to slide at first. Seems unusual, but maybe that's the way they do it in the American League.

Love seein the power display. Carter is frustrating with those strike outs, but if he continues to bomb the ball, can't complain.

Here is my one issue with Carter: RISP. If he can see his BABIP go up in these situations, I think he can be a 100+ RBI guy and be worth the frustration. I just think it it worth looking at this line:

If he can produce, and he is doing just enough now as is, he can be worth it. Also, I just want to see those monster shots.

I doubt any ML team does. The Twins would fine players starting in the minors if they slide into first. There are two major reasons to slide - avoid a tag and slow down.

I once emailed a question to the booth when Dierker was announcing (after his managing days) and asked why players slid into first. He indicated that Astros' management did not like it or encourage it. Also, the only answer he ever got from a player that made sense was that the player thought his footwork was off and he would have to stutter step to hit the bag.

Huge strikeout from Clemens. Glad to see him get it done considering his shakiness.

Man if Clemens can consistently harness that stuff. He's struggled but given his ceiling as a reliever i have no problem running him out there.

Don't think I've ever seen a pick off end a game.

But he should be traded... right, rook?

Forget the major league team and having a potential all star catcher, we need more minor league depth!

safe to say it isn't really a fluke either...he's just healthy, finally. let's not forget the torrid spring he had to get things started: 6 or 7 homers i think?
