Oh, absolutely Paul would. The question is if he could get it past Sterling. Though the latest addition to the ESPN story -- that Clips are weighing offering Griffin/Bledsoe for Howard -- is concerning. You could be right. The Rockets will need to sell age to Dwight, if the Clippers legitimately join the race -- point out that KG/Pierce are about to fall off the cliff.
http://www.clipsnation.com/2013/6/14/4431552/financial-clarifications This article says they can keep Griffin by dumping Jordan, Butler, and their pick for nothing. Something about money owed to Billups and Odom is overstated and will end up at only $2M each. Not sure, I don't have the patience to understand what they're talking about. ....
I am convinced the Lakers wouldn't accept a S&T for Dwight even if it did include Blake Griffin. LAL believes they can land LeBron next year. They want to save as much room as possible to form a super team next off-season.
They'd still have room for a max salary, even with Griffin. He's a terrific young piece. I think they'd take it, if Clips actually offer it. Going to have to work our magic with Dwight.
More I thought about this (and after reading a sb nation article), more I don't see LAL SnTing Howard, even if they get Bledsoe and Griffin out of the deal.
I find it highly doubtful that they can dump those two for nothing... it's much more reasonable for Asik and Lin to be dealt for cap space. Much. Even so, it looks like Jordan is in the Garnett deal, so they'd pursue Dwight via trade.
The real problem is dumping Jordan for FREE hahaha. If you thought Lin's $8M would be hard to move...now Jordan's and even Butler's? whew
Read in various places that CP3 is the one that pushed for this near the trade deadline. Just a rumor, but I have a feeling, if they are trying to do this now, CP3 either wants it or they won't go through with it unless he says he wants it to stay.
Probably not. We'd be capped out. Realistically, the way to upgrade our 4 spot then would be to move Asik or Asik w/ a young PF in a SnT for Millsap or Josh Smith or whatever. I don't think Morey will because Dwight's expressed interest in playing with Asik, and that pairing could work very well, while giving us a true backup C if Dwight gets injured while a playing buddy at the same time. If they really don't work well together, Asik might be moved at the trade deadline.
Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA 5min Lakers have fully resisted Clippers overtures on a sign-and-trade for Dwight Howard. "They will never do it," source with knowledge tells Y! thanks!
This is why I believe they don't do a sign and trade. They want multiple stars. If they are able to keep Kobe around, somehow nab LeBron, and two other decent players, they could be title contenders.
They do, but these things are fluid and can change at the drop of the dime. I have a tough time believing Lakers wouldn't do a SnT if the choice was losing Dwight to Hou/Dal/Atl for nothing or getting Griffin/Bledsoe in return. That said, I don't see Boston doing a deal without Bledsoe.
This sounds reassuring to hear. Althought, why would the Lakers not do it? He's going to join a great team either way if Howard comes to Houston. Might as well get something for Dwight. I would rather have Blake Griffin than getting nothing in returns if Dwight leaves. With that being said, if I'm Howard, the Clippers seem to be the more enticing team if they acquire garnett, rivers, pierce.
That is why I hope the Celts deal goes through. You're right -- these things are really fluid. No guarantees, although I see the younger Buss as much more stubborn/pigheaded than his father. And I don't have a tough time believing LAL wouldn't do a SnT if it meant losing Dwight for free. They can quite plausibly value the extra near $20M in 2014 cap space more than Griffin/Bledsoe. And it'd allow them to avoid trading Dwight to CP3's Clipps who will steal their bandwagon fans. LAL could also then tank next season and hope for a high pick in the loaded 2014 draft. I'd be 50/50 on the two if I were Kupchak.
jocar - Oh, no I didn't. A prisoner's dilemma is a common games theory term, and another user and I were using it a few days ago...I think in this same exact thread lol. We were discussing whether this was a Catch 22 problem, a prisoner's dilemma, neither or both haha.
Wouldn't they have a lot of cap space with Griffin/Nash/Bledsoe? I guess it varies on what the deal with Kobe would be. If Kobe resigns for a decent amount then those 4 might take up a sizable chunk of the cap.
JK, Bledsoe is expiring in 13/14. In theory they could have Nash for 9m and Griffin for 17.6m. And then whatever the hell Kobe resigns for.
i don't find it so hard to believe. lakers are convinced that players want to play for them. they won't do a SnT just to have something, even if it's blake and eric. it's either sign howard, or keep your cap and sign lebron in 2014. they believe they have as good of a chance of signing lebron as miami. they're not losing dwight for nothing - they're losing dwight but gaining cap space for 2014. that's very significant for a team that believes it can get anyone it wants.
