(Bledsoe would be traded with Griffin to make salaries match)

I agree with the 1st and 3rd options. 3rd more than the 1st though. There's no way I can see the Lakers helping out a divisional rival who also happens to share the same city and arena with them.

How is it possible for these 2 teams to participate in a sign and trade with each other? Aren't they both way over the apron?

The clippers would effectively trade a younger version of Dwight for an older one. Don't think Sterling will go for it. I think he calls CP3's bluff

Dwight is worth more than two Blakes. This would make the Clippers much better and the Lakers would remain a lower seed in the West. They might not even make the playoffs.

Practically speaking, with DeAndre Jordan already on board and difficult to move, no.

Hypothetically speaking, placing all of that aside, I'd still say no if I were the Clippers.

Both players had "down years"; but you have to think with the concerns about Dwight's both health and effort levels, that he's the one that's less likely to recover statistically. Blake's 18-8 will likely go back to 20-10 levels next year, whereas who really knows with Dwight. As a Rockets fan, that's a risk that I'm willing to take; but as a Clippers fan, Blake is a sure thing and exciting player that I'd be extremely hesitant to ever move.

Good points but Dwight was about 19/14 the last couple of months, which is better than Blake's projected 20/10. He also makes a huge impact on D where Blake definitely does not. If you add CP3 to the equation, Dwight should become a bigger factor on offense because he'll have a great PG for the first time in his career. He might put up anywhere from 20/15 to 25/15 with CP3.

For two straight years Blake has been nicked up and shaky in the playoffs. That's a very disturbing trend that makes me question his value more than ever. IMO, Blake isn't a game-changer and never will be, healthly or unhealthy. Dwight is top-5 impact player.

I don't think I'd do it as a Clipper unless Paul really looks on the verge of leaving. Howard + Paul is a lot better than Griffin by himself. I guess I like Griffin better than most posters, and have some misgivings about whether Howard can really deliver in the future what he did in Orlando.

If I was the Lakers, I'd definitely do it. After the failure of the last superteam, they are facing a stark reality of (1) how to get a new player to build around when all their assets are crumbling with age and (2) what to do with Kobe Bryant in the twilight of his career. Trading for Lin and Asik or JSmoove and Lou Williams isn't really going to do much to help. But picking up Griffin and Bledsoe gives you a quick reload to compete again next season. Griffin and Kobe might click better than Howard and Kobe and they can be solid. And, if it doesn't work out, they have an asset in Griffin that won't depreciate so quickly. They can rebuild around him or cash him in for something else that has potential to be a franchise player for them.

If I'm the Lakers, I'm not worried about what superteam I might facilitate. Howard's leaving, and will probably be making a superteam somewhere. If they don't manage to S&T him, they lose their one opportunity to get a jumpstart on the rebuild. But, won't all the LA residents go to Clippers games instead of the Lakers? No. I see no reason to think decades of Clippers sucking and Lakers being the darling should change. Even with Paul and Howard, the Clippers won't do anything meaningful. And people know not to count the Lakers out.

    Great points, A_3PO.

Hopefully, Dwight does return to his pre-lockout, top 5 player form with the numbers that you mentioned. Even better if he does that as a Rocket. Just saying, if I'm the Clippers (stuck with Jordan at center), it might make more sense to finally pursue a quality 2/3 and phase out the washups (Billups, Butler, Barnes, etc).

But yeah, if he shakes off the Mike Tyson effect - look out.

Dwight and CP3 would be the deadliest duo in the NBA because their games are designed for each other. You trade Deandre Jordan and Blake if you need to considering both CP3 and Dwight would be on long-term contracts.

Damnit. Will someone explain to me how this works? I thought sign and trades can only take place when the team taking the signed and traded player with a new contract has to be under the cap? Neither the Lakers or Clips are anywhere near under the cap right?

I take this back. Dwight and Lebron would be the deadliest duo.

    Have you seen Blake's contract?

    2013/14 -- 16,402,500
    2014/15 -- 17,632,688
    2015/16 -- 18,862,876
    2016/17 -- 20,093,064

Thats a lot of cap space eaten up for a guy who many think has peaked as a player. There's no way I'd want Morey to sign this guy at these prices...what makes you think the Lakers would either?

Personally, I'm pretty worried about the Clippers being able to snatch up Dwight...but not by dealing Blake. I see them sending Jordan and maybe Butler out in return for draft picks in order to clear the space needed to sign Dwight outright...just like we are trying to do. It gets CP3 and Dwight on the same team with Blake as their 3rd piece. It keeps everyone in LA where they like it.

The only thing that Dwight loses out on is the tax hit, but he's been pretty adamant that winning is his primary focus. Maybe he thinks CP3 and Blake are a better fit for him than Houston. I can see it.

One last thought, Dwight and Harden is up there as far as combinations of two players in the NBA to pair up.
