PERFECT MOVIE! Watched in 2D, will undoubtedly go back for 3D + Imax. I want to give this production my money.

People trashing it didn't understand Superman as a kid.

Now that the sweeping indictment is done: the truth is Clark Kent is a complex character and reflects some part of everyone's demeanor; the movie could only show certain aspects and these happened to be the ones that resonated with me and I guess the others that loved this movie.

As a kid, playing with my action figures, the action is exactly as I day-dreamt it but in reality. They plucked the ideas from my head and enhanced their realism a thousand fold. I am absolutely amazed that the technology to create these kinds of ideas has already been reached.

    Screenplay was fantastic too.

Not very good movie at all.

Lots of plot holes. Lots of stupid stuff. Barely any characterization. Terrible forced romance.

Shouldnt have went with that villain. The battle part was way too large scale for an origin movie, once it started it left no room for any more character development. Only character developed at all was Clark and even he wasn't done great.

Also second half of the movie devolved into a Michael Bay style action flick. I guess the action was done well, and I liked the cinematography, but thats the only real thing good about it. Thats Zack Snyder for you, all style no substance.

Honestly, I think my ideal Superman origin story, I don't think you really need to have a villain, or at least not a big one. Maybe buck the trend of every superhero movie. Have it focus on characterization, Clark coming to realize that he's Superman, him trying to blend in, humans coming to terms with the fact that there is a Superman, and Superman dealing with the fact that he can't save everyone at all times. Maybe with that you could have some real dramatic tension and you could fully develop the characters and backstory, which would set-up for a much grander and more epic second film.

But I guess that doesn't sell compared to the stupid Michael Bay style action flick. Ugh. Wish they'd treat Supes right. Hell, even Superman Returns was better then this. I don't see how anyone could really think this is great unless you just wanted a big dumb popcorn movie, and even then its far too long for that

It's funny the reviews are seemingly all over the place in this thread. Glad you'll agree to disagree. My opinion is I will watch this in a few months when it comes to TV. My reason for watching even then is Amy Adam's all-sparkle. Hope she does Lois better than all the rest.

Funny thing is my thoughts as I was watching the movie is that the writers and producers did not understand Superman as a kid. There is a lot more to Superman that just pure action. A Superman movie has so much potential and the writers of this one laid an egg big time.

I haven't seen this yet...the reviews from a few of you make it less likely I will, frankly.

I've never found Superman's character very compelling. A hero who fights crime and whose only real weakness is a rock from another planet....I just don't find that very intriguing. A hero who is capable of getting his ass whomped, and fights on anyway, is much more interesting to me.

Haven't seen the movie yet, reading a lot of opinions sounds like it may be disappointing. With that said I think Superman is a boring ass character to begin with. Would anyone really want to sit down and have a beer with Clark Kent/Superman? Hell no, he's a socially awkward megadork. Bruce wayne/Batman or Tony Stark/ Iron Man? Who wouldn't. I still want to see the movie, because the bottom line is I want to see a superhero movie with great special effects.

Fortunately that doesn't appear to be who this character is going to be.

The character you just described is the Superman that was portrayed in the Donnerverse and following movies as well as they earlier Tv series (Smallville excluded) as well as the earlier versions of the comic up until they reigned his powers in and a lot of his rouges gallery were upped in strength levels to put them on par with him.

The comic version of Superman from the mid eighties into this "New 52" has always been this.... "A hero who is capable of getting his ass whomped, and fights on anyway" as you put it. He constantly gets his ass handed to him once or twice every new story before going on to win.

Problem is people at a whole don't read comics they don't know the actual comic canon as it is today. The canon they use is from the earlier movies and Tv shows and it is incorrect. Especially more now than ever since this new crew is taking him the route of his current comic origin. That origin as it is today is of a conflicted man with many moral quandaries that is prone to screwing up and getting his ass handed to him every now and then...this is even more so the case now with the "New 52" version of Superman.

As is and again I agree with others this movie was lite on the character development. That said I am not going to fault them for making this movie the way they did even more so given the fact that I loved it. This movie had to make money. It had to be a box office success. Many forget the last 3 movies were turds at the box office. Superman 3 and 4 were disliked all around. Superman Returns pleased the critics but pissed off the most important faction the fans. If this movie wasn't successful you could basically kiss the franchise goodbye along with any Justice League movies to boot. This was the safest bet to ensure the future of the franchise and it is more than setup for scores of character development for the future now that it has a solid base with which to build from.

More importantly it got Zod out of the way which was basically this franchises Kahn. That said I am actually looking forward to seeing how they portray Lex Luthor as it seems they are going with his more current comics origins as well as Goyer stated:

“If Lex is going to exist in the world, we would presumably have to give him the same treatment that we gave Lois Lane in the first film, which is make him a credible character. He’s the corollary to being a good love interest; he’s gotta be a man of incredible intelligence, and presumably a man of incredible wealth and incredible resources.”

That suggests that he’ll follow the John Byrne/post-Man of Steel method of defining Luthor as the powerful businessman, rather than the sewer-dwelling wannabe magnate seen in the Donner films or the mad scientist seen in earlier comics.

The easter eggs from this movie have basically already hinted at this.

That said I look forward to seeing what they have planned for the future films of this new rebooted "more comic book based" franchise.

If this movie portrays Superman as he is in the comics today then I am glad grew up at an earlier time. Perhaps that is why I am so disappointed in this movie. I quit reading comic books around 1980. I went to this movie expecting to see the Superman I grew up with. I guess they must of changed him in the comics and thus in the movie. This would explain why so many people seem to either love or hate this movie. Either way, even if I had never heard of Superman in my life, I would still say this was a poorly written movie script.

    THANK you.

Even for a big dumb popcorn movie I was disappointed. No characterization, just MORE MORE MORE fights, MORE MORE MORE destruction. I like action movies, but seriously, I also like to breathe. Ugh.

I won't say you don't see $225,000,000 on the screen. I did. And my eyeballs still hurt. :)
