That's fine. That's a valid concern. I think the Rockets will be fine because A) the Rockets with Howard are a better basketball situation than Atlanta/Clippers, even with CP3 and Howard and B) I think Morey will be able to clear the necessary space to offer them a Houston alternative as well. But Paul does seem to love LA, and Dwight is impressionable, so I can understand having some concern over that.

But when you take it to the next level and say Dwight doesn't care at all about winning, just wants lifestyle and the East/West coast, despite everything that Dwight directly has said over and over again... that's trolling.

I don't see whats laughable actually, people here think we can get him for Lin + Asik :) At the end of the day, do the Lakers settle for a deal, or let him walk? I can just see them letting him walk. They're the Lakers, they'll get someone else younger and better in a couple of years...sucks...

Honestly, I think Howard has to have faith in Harden and Morey. If he is willing to team up with Harden, Morey will get that 3rd star his way, instead of gutting the team trying to get CP3, which is just not likely. If Howard comes w/o CP3, Morey will have his whole bag of assets to work with to upgrade either the PG or the PF spot.

I would take Horford in a New York minute. But he's on a cheap contract and Atlanta would not have to move him.

Butler's expiring contract gives the Lakers cap room for two max contracts in 2014.

Doc Rocket has not mentioned Cp3 at all.

D'antoni team will in all likelihood never win the Championship. It's the D that brings home the Championship.

CP3 will end up staying in LA with the Clippers since they are in the process of hiring a coach CP3 wants to play for. I just can't wait for July 1st to get here so that the drama will finally end.

Yeah but then they're stuck w/ DJordan's horrendous contract. It is the type of contract no team wants. I would take Asik's over his any day. Then Lin's? If it is a real problem, move him. Or maybe he gets a lot better. Who knows. Plenty of possibilities 1 yr out. prima facie case, Butler + DJordan <<<< Lin + Asik.

The Lakers are not going to pay $50 million for Caron Butler and DeAndre Jordan. That's the underrated factor of all these hypothetical S&T proposals for LA -- folks don't realize that they're in an enormous crunch already with the luxury tax. If they fill the $20 million-ish hole currently slotted for Dwight, it's going to cost them more than two times that due to the tax.

Losing Dwight for nothing isn't the worst-case scenario for LA. What would be worse than that is committing that enormous sum of money for an even worse team. The Lakers would gladly let Dwight walk before trading him for a package of Clippers that doesn't include Griffin.

its a fair point but James wasn't the first player to accept less.

I personally don't see CP3 + Howard happening in Houston (not that it can't, but that it won't). However, if it were to happen I think Morey's ability to find valuable players for next to nothing would make the Rockets the clear-cut best team in the league by the start of the 2014 season. If I owned a team and had a Big 3 taking up basically all of the cap room, I would choose Morey as my GM to fill out the holes over anyone else.

Daryl Morey warmly welcomes Jon Diebler, Maarty Leunen, & Brad Newley to Houston.

Playing with DH, CP, ChP, and Harden would make marginal NBA players into acceptable role players. All they'd have to do is what they are good at: defense, rebounding, threes. You can find guys that can do one of those at an average NBA level. Finding someone who can do two or more is tough though.

I think morey would move all 3 of asik, Lin and parson to get Paul and Dwight. Here is a possible way...

    1. Sign Paul to the max, the Lin, asik and parson for dwight

Not so quick. I remember reading CF last summer, didn't Dwight Howard want to come to Houston to play with Lin last season?:) (Even though he didn't in the end.)

just because they happened to say hi to eachother at an airport one time does not mean that he would want to come to play with lin exclusively. I mean really, who would go out of their way to make playing with lin a priority? Lin would have to be moved if we were to get Dwight AND CP3. Dwight is not wanting to coming here with the "damn, Houston looks like a great destination for me...I get to play with Jeremy Lin!" mindset

I think the point is, the trade propositions on this site are no different in ridiculousness than clippers topbuzz or any other fan forum. If the Lakers and Clippers are to make a deal, it will involve Blake Griffin and may even involve amnesty on Kobe if that's what it will take to qualify for the sign + trade. Griffin will be absolutely the best case scenario if Lakers really do need to trade Howard.

It's just like statements that Dwight wants to go to Houston so he can win championships is just as ridiculous a statement as Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett wanting to go to Clippers to win rings. It just sounds funny. Lets just agree that there will be no rings to be had on Rockets or Clippers. If Dwight joins Rockets or if Rivers/Garnett join CP3/Blake, they will be solid playoff teams, but will lose every year to whatever team Lebron is on. Well, maybe Rockets can win another ring if Lebron takes time off to play baseball or something.
