We are getting Howard so no room for Granger but keeping an "eye" on somebody is a as innocent as a married man keeping a "eye" on the Hooters waitress :)

    Just Saying...........No real news here.

I'm sure others have mentioned this already, but Granger has a massive expiring contract after next season. Thus, he has value as both a player and a bargaining chip.

I'd imagine he's one of our backup plans in case we strikeout with Dwight/CP3 just to say we did something. And to be fair, he would help us. We could run Granger/Parsons out there at the 3/4 and be much improved. Probably makes us a guaranteed 50-win group.

Morey said at the season ticket holder meeting, they were going to go after the top two free agents, and failing that, would just do one year guaranteed deals.

Granger fits that scheme, but the problem is what you have to give up for him.

Wonder if Indiana would be fine with taking T-Rob and our bench brigade (Delfino, Brooks, Anderson) to help shore up their atrocious one.

    Highly unlikely, to be honest.

A Danny Granger piece would only be used to trade for a larger piece next off-season...just like Kevin Martin...he is just a means to an end...

Why are we rehashing a trade deadline thread started 4 months ago? Is there some credible information we are looking at Granger this summer? If there is, I haven't seen it.

Indy has 1/2 of their big man rotation (West/hansbrough) in free agency. They want to keep West. They're not talking about Hansbrough. They are the pure definition of a small market team. So, I seriously doubt if they are willing to pay Hansbrough more than about $3.5 million per season. They're probably going to have to give West a raise to keep him. I'm guessing around $11-12 million/yr. They've also got D.J. Augustin as their backup PG coming off a $3.5 million salary. He severely underperformed in the playoffs and in my opinion was the single greatest reason they couldn't get past Miami. Every time he was in the game, Miami went on a run and lit him up. Also Granger was essentially out for the season. He contributed nothing.

So, in my opinion....Brooks, Delfino, and TRob would make A LOT of sense for Indy, who is trying their best to keep their salary outlay as low as possible with Brooks replacing Augustin, TRob replacing Hansbrough, and Delfino giving them some decent shooting/playmaking off the bench behind George. I think those guys would fit perfectly in Indy.

That being said, I would think if somebody gave Indy a future first rounder(s) and other second rounders for Granger, that it would trump getting these 3 guys for Granger. (Probably a lottery protected pick.) So, we'd probably have to sweeten the pot with our 2014 first rounder. That may be enough to get a Granger deal done.

The next question would be what do you do with Granger? You gotta move him to create room for Dwight. So, if we traded for him right now we couldn't be trading for him with the idea of holding him. It would have to be a multiple team transaction where we get space and something of value back in the form of future picks, etc.

Now...if you could find the right trade for Granger where you could get back future picks and cap space then why not combine him with some non-guaranteed salary and execute a sign and trade for Dwight 60 days out if Dwight commits to us in free agency?

    Plan A: Dwight
    Plan 1A: CP3
    Plan B: Gasol
    Plan 1B: Granger
Plan C: Millsap (on a very team friendly deal - unlikely)

I like your thinking but I don't think Gasol is plan B because he is not a FA, we are completely dependent on Lakers to trade him.

Also, I don't really think Houston is going after Granger at all, too many question marks and not worth the risk.

    Plan A: Howard
    Plan 1A: CP3
    Plan B: J.Smith
    Plan 1B: Milsap
    Plan C: Gasol
    Plan 1C: Garnet

Both Granger and Gasol are one year rentals.

As commodore point out above, both fit the scheme that Morey has alluded to if we strikeout with Dwight/CP3 via free agency. Granted, Gasol would be a little harder to trade for, but both make at least some sense and could help us.

That's my feeling too. If Morey strikes out on Howard and Paul and there are no targets left for a long-term piece so we have to just bide our time and hope to use the cap space on someone next year, Granger could be a stop-gap in the interim.

Lakers would have no reason to keep Gasol and pay all that money for him if Dwight leaves and Kobe is out for the season. We are one of the few teams that could absorb most of his salary. Both he and Granger would not hurt our long-term ability to offer a max contract.

Smith and Millsap are much more risky because they will eliminate our ability to have max cap room. I don't see Morey offering more than what Asik got for either one of them, with Millsap being much more likely to take that amount of money. At that figure on a 2-3 year deal they are still tradeable.
