Steve Kyler: Sources also say that the field for Howard's free agency has widened considerably... Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, San Antonio, LA and Brooklyn Twitter @stevekylerNBA

Steve Kyler: Brooklyn would have to complete a complex sign & trade to get at Howard, but sources say they are willing to do whatever it takes. Twitter @stevekylerNBA

If I were Dwight and I want the best chance to win, I would pick San Antonio.

He should go where Patertrick Patersen was traded. He is a good team player.

if true about Brooklyn (or SA) doing 'everything' it takes, the Lakers may actually engage them on a S&T which could be preferable to them (depending on who they get back) than letting Dwight walk for nothing--i.e go to Houston.

Dwight has seemingly wanted to play in Brooklyn for a while so he might actually push the lakers to get it done...that could throw a wrench into morey's plans.

I don't understand why they would do any sort of smoke and mirrors, what is the benefit?

so you really think the lakers would want to take back bloated contracts instead of playing it safe?

Did everyone miss the all star game where Popovich became the first coach ever who benched a player for not taking the game serious enough? Dwight and Pop would go together like oil and water.

Not saying SA doesn't have conversations with Dwight come July 1st, but I see it unlikely given their salary cap space and the fit.

Plus- I thought Dwight to Houston was a sure thing......?

Think sign and trade. If there is a possibility for him to get signed and traded anywhere (including Houston), then it has to seem like he'd be willing to sign outright with any number of teams. In order for the Lakers to be amicable to a sign and trade, they have to truly believe he is walking away from them for nothing.
