Rule, meet exception. Yes, Dwight had one freakout... back in the very beginning of all this when he wasn't used to the criticism and didn't know how to handle it. In addition, part of his reasoning for opting in was that he thought he had an agreement with the Magic to trade him to Brooklyn over the summer if things didn't work out.

Since then, he's been remarkably stubborn and driven toward his beliefs.

Is this thread about Dwight Howard or Fair Dinkum? It's getting hard to tell.

Lets hope one of them is winning championships. Cause Houston provides the best opportunity for that hands down.

Rockets should really hire Olajuwon as an assistant if they do in fact get Dwight. Coach Dwight and all 30 of our power forwards solid post play.

    153 (and counting) posts?

    More like DD

    ---------------------------------------------------------

I am still reserved right now on Dwight - not until July 1st when teams can start talking and openly pursue free agents. Right now despite all the signs strongly pointing that Dwight should sign in Houston and leave LA I just have a strange feeling that Dwight (more likely his agent and his team) are trying to leverage the Lakers into giving Dwight what he wants (D'antoni gone and other things - possibly Kobe amnesitied?) and using the Rockets as leverage. I honestly do not believe the Lakers to be so shortsighted that they wouldnt fire D'antoni even if it meant losing Dwight. If Dwight was going to bolt for sure if D'antoni was there - they would be looking for a new coach -- especially right now when there are so many good ones out there. Brian Shaw would be a great example of bringing back a guy (on the cheap) that would fit right in and work things out and already has the respect of Kobe and Gasol.

Right now I believe there is a lot of posturing on both sides - the Lakers are trying not to blink first - but may have to since Dwight is the big commodity but at least right now they have nothing to fear until July 1st when teams can openly talk and have verbal agreements. I also believe though the Lakers are being way too arrogant themselves in all this -- their team is not in good shape right now -- even if Kobe makes it back and play the majority of next season - an older nash, gasol and older - back from injury Kobe is not going to cut it in the west without Dwight. Even with Dwight its going to be iffy playoff run since their bench is so thin. Not to mention the hit the franchise will take on its image -- they've always been a place big names flocked too to play -- now they'll have one of the most impactful players of his generation leaving the team to go elsewhere in his prime. Some of that Lakers luster will be lost for sure.

I would absolutely LOVE to have Dwight in Houston - dont get me wrong the guy is a complete beast on both ends and would make life easier for everyone on the team - with him and Harden you can build a great contending core right now. you have some western powerhouses on the decline - Mavs, Lakers -- some that will be large question marks with the coaching changes - Grizzlies, Nuggets and Clippers -- and if the spurs win it all this year if Duncan and crew outside of Parker do retire then the Spurs will plummet down. The west will be the weakest in decades and that would be a prime opportunity for the Rockets to make it to the WCF or beyond with Dwight.

I think Daryl and Mitch have already discussed terms of a sign and trade.

I've actually wondered if Hakeem's recruiting pitch to Dwight involved being a part time trainer for him, rather than a week and done.

Dwight shows signs of what Hakeem teaches him, then falls back into old habits, there's no continuity.

What's the point of a S&T with the way the new CBA is now? That's just wasting assets.

To free up space if CP3 wants to join the party? Since you can start talking to them on the 1st, but can't sign until the 11th?

The lakers could also agree to take say Royce White in return for actually getting a TPE for the difference rather than nothing.

Nope. To increase assets for a potential CP3 trade and to stay over the cap for further trade flexibility created by using the full MLE correctly.
