As long as you remember the house always wins...

 

Five years ago, one of only two times I ever gambled in my life, I came close to winning a bet on green at blackjack, the only time I ever tried. Naturally, the ball landed just to the left of the green, costing me hundreds of dollars.

 

One time I went to a casino and put money into a slot machine. I got nothing in return.

 

Friend of mine was purchasing manager for a computer server deal. Had some suppliers in san jose. He asked me if I 'wanted to go party in san francisco for the weekend all expense paid' ...yeah sure I will go.

So we get there and the suppliers are chinese fresh off the boat. Nice people. They have a son they named 'warren' named after warren buffet. Kinda weird hearing people say 'warren' with a chinese accent when they can barely say the name at all. anyway they took us out and we got drunk etc. It was fun.

They asked if we wanted to gamble .. so yeah I guess.

Next thing we are heading to lake tahoe. Part I forgot to mention is that we had mushrooms. Not portobello, but the kind that make you hallucinate. So we stupidly start eating these shrooms sitting in this van with all these chinese people. They are jamming out and have this crazy lounge singer chinese music playing and of course warren is there jamming too. So I'm on shrooms in a small van full of chinese people with warren and company.. heading to tahoe.

As we are driving, one the guys says that he is not feeling well and that he needs to pull over to get fresh air.. We do and then we continue. as we go along same guy says to pull over again. we pull over and this time he passes out, falls over on his face. right in the middle of some busy ass freeway on the way to lake tahoe. They are all (in chinese accent) 'call 911 !! call 911 !' but no one is calling.

So what seems like a long while with this dude dying on the side of the road, I finally grasp my head around the idea of calling 911.

'umm hi 911.. this is me IBTL.How are you? umm I'm on a freeway somewhere in california. I'm with a chinese guy and a bunch of chinese people and a kid named warren. we need some help here.. dude is not feeling well'

so I'm peaking and then the CHIPS guys arrive and I swear one of them is poncherello. I mean it HAS to be him:



I was in awe that these guys STILL dress like that. so freaking cool.

So we have to follow the ambulance to the hospital and then hang out in a hospital waiting room with warren and crew shrooming. This is fun.

Things start to calm down finally and turns out the guy was just having a panic attack.. Which is weird because for a moment there on that freeway I felt like the whole crew and my friend and me were ALL going to have a panic attack. But that's just the shrooms. perhaps Warren was the only sane one.

Turns out we are NOT going to tahoe but need to continue on to reno. At this point we have been in on this trip for 12 hours and I can only eat so much seaweed and other assorted asian snacks. No they won't let us have pringles or cool ranch. Seaweed.

As we get closer to reno my friend thinks it would be a good idea to eat some more shrooms. So being as I am the invitee I agree. We get to reno and they give us some money to gamble. I get like 200. sweet.

So these chinese people are following us around the casino and things are getting weird again. Everytime I turn around these chinese people are still there following us. no matter how hard we try to lose them. At one point I tell them that they probably dont need to be following us since we are out of our minds. They don't know about the shrooms but they had to know something was wrong with us. Just imagine 2 really trashed guys with these chinese people following us a few feet behind going in circles in the casino. Not sure where warren was btw. finally we lose them.

So I sit down and play the only game I am capable of comprehending on shrooms.

roulette.

yeah I know 'the odds' and 'you are stupid for playing roulette' etc. well 'fu**Ck you I am on shrooms and I have a 200 I need to blow'

I put it on red I win. I put it on black. I win.

Somehow I start to feel like I can control the ball with my mind. Everytime I'm going to bet small I bet black. Everytime I am going to bet big I put it on red.

It gets to the point where I am betting 200-300 per spin and am killing it. It was really unreal. The pit boss and the rolling dude are beside themselves wondering what is going on. I must have been there for a while and a mini crowd developed and my friend was at the craps table and comes and couldnt believe it either. total win 3700 starting from 200.

I have since played roulette and have never won jack shi**t

I am sure there are stories of better hot streaks but that was my one and only hot streak.

Moral of the story you may win but dont expect to. It needs to be organic almost. Not organic mushrooms, but the situation needs to flow and not be forced. And when you do win it's the exception, not the rule. remember that. This was the exception and you need to make the moment the exception. It's like screwing up the matrix. Shrooms are bad and dont really recommend it for most instances but this happened to be the one exception.

My friends and I watched the movie 21. Had the grand idea of taking a trip to Vegas. We were so intent on winning big. When we got there realized we weren't smart enough to accomplish something like that. So we just spent the rest of the time in Vegas at the kid's arcade at MGM Grand.

 

My casino story (the short version):

The year is 1993. I am 16 years old. Texas Hold 'Em is a mere rotation game along with many others. My friends and I have been running a gambling ring on the weekends with about 1/4 of my class involved (just hosting multi-table games, not running a house or anything). Our Vegas plan was a year in the making. We really loved gambling.

We hired a travel agent and booked 4 tickets to Vegas for one night at the Aladdin Hotel/Casino about a week after classes ended. On the fateful night (our entire high school class knew our plan and was rooting for us) we all told our parents different stories and met up at a country club parking lot and then drove to the airport.

We dressed well and didn't drink but obviously looked like kids. I had braces and looked about 12. And I still get carded today...

We were allowed to gamble, however, and I wasn't even using my own fake ID. I had a friend's fake ID. We played at a 3-4 casinos and had a great time. After 20 hours of being in Vegas, we took a cab back to the airport and headed home. I won about $250 if I remember correctly. Only one of my friend's parents found out, but they didn't tell anyone else. When I told my mother about 5 years ago, it was a great moment. She was so proud.

We all went back when we were 18 but by then, some kids had lost $10,000 on credit cards at Bally's and their parents sued and won. It was MUCH harder to gamble under age (although we still did). It wasn't like when I was 16 and the craps dealers were cracking jokes about me obviously being a kid. I swear, they would have let me gamble back then with a note from my mother saying I was old enough.

 

I won $20K at the Dow Jones once.

 

This occurred about 6 years ago at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

My friend and I took a trip there for a weekend of the holy trinity of gambling (Poker, Craps, Sports Book). It happened to be the weekend of the Texas vs. Ohio State game. Great fun watching the Longhorns get pwned...but thats another story.

Its Friday night and my friend and I are at the crap table. Its a moderately hot table and I may have been up $100 at the time....I'm not a big time player. Just having a good time.

Anyways, these 4 guys come strolling up to the table...I think they were from Los Angeles. Anyways, they still have their luggage as they hadn't even checked in the hotel, but one of the dudes couldn't wait to get his first bet down. He sets his bags down pulls a $20 bill out and bets snake eyes.

Anyways, it happened to be the come out roll and the shooter rolls and hits...snake eyes! Boom. This guy immediately is up $600 on a 30-1 payout. After some celebratory high fives, he says F it....let it ride. I look around the table, see some chuckles, smiles and head shakes. I guess he figured WTH...I just got here and I'm only down $20.

Shooter rolls again and BOOM...snake eyes! Dude is looking @ $18,600 in winnings in less than 3 minutes.

They were comped for their room on the spot. LOL.

 

Won big playing 21, but then laurence fishburne took it all

 

I hit up a casino 3-4 times a year. I'm not a big gambler. I bring $100 and play $5 Spanish 21 or try out the penny slots. I've won $400 once playing Spanish 21 and $300 on the penny machine with a max bet of $2.25. AKA you need a LOT of luck to win.

 

I won the last two times I played blackjack (the perfect game), and I will going back to a casino soon yet again to play. Do I have illusions of grandeur? Of course, but be patient, play by the book and stagger those bets - because it is about luck.

 

I've been to LV several times, but only gambled once, my first trip when I was just out of college. I tried everything and lost. I was down $600 (a lot for a guy just starting his first job in 1987) and when I got to the airport I had $4 in my pocket. WTH, thought I, and dumped three bucks into the airport slots. Nothing. On my last dollar, I hit a $400 jackpot and happily flew back home down only $200.

My uncle is a big shot in Vegas and after that trip, he always reminds me that Vegas wasn't built on winners.

 

Play the Batman and Ghostbusters slots. They are like an ATM.

Oh and when I was betting on some random game in Vegas at Bally's about 8 years ago the cashier told me some very wise words. She said, "The more you bet the more you win!" She was so right!

 

IBTL's story is fantastic. Needs some fleshing out but I can definitely see a Fear and Loathing meets White Castle movie out of it.

And you'd have to make up a different/better ending. Something with Warren obviously

 

Barcelo Hotel Casino, Tamarindo, Costa Rica 2003. Played Caribbean Stud, the managers and dealers loved us and let us talk at the table. Impossible to lose money unless you were an idiot, and we drank for free. Along with a few other select degenerates we'd clue in here and there, we cleaned 'em out of Jack Daniels and J.Walker every week for a month, made enough money for daily fishing/surfing/eating/smoking/drugging/drinking, called it "going into the office" for a couple of hours a day. We tipped quite well, of course. We weren't even staying at the hotel.
