CNN’s Christiane Amanpour Dismisses Fears Of Islamization By Secular Turks Protesting Erdogan’s Government…

    <iframe src="http://videos.mediaite.com/embed/player/?content_type=content_item&layout=&playlist_cid=&content=5FVBLV0YCVWNDXGV&widget_type_cid=svp&read_more=1" width="420" height="421" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" allowtransparency="true"></iframe>

It’s almost like Amanpour is biased in favor of Islam.

    Via Mediaite:http://www.mediaite.com/tv/christia...just-like-public-health-concerns-in-the-west/

CNN’s Chief International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour, anchoring the coverage of the ongoing Turkish protests for her network, delved into analysis on Tuesday in an effort to isolate why the young, secular Turks had taken to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the government in Ankara. She noted that the nation had just recently curtailed the use of images of alcohol in public, but found that move roughly equivalent to the restrictions on alcohol imagery in the West. Oddly, Amanpour did not find it worth mentioning that those restrictions are made for public health reasons in the West but for religious reasons in Turkey.

“The Turkish government has said over and over again that it is not an Islamic government as you might find in Iran,” Amanpour began. “You can see that. We know that it has no plans to make Turkey into an Islamic Republic in the way that you see in places like Iran or elsewhere.”

She added that there has been some concern over Turkey’s shift towards “political Islam” among Western powers, but mentioned that many of the West’s democratic leaders are comfortable with the leadership of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Amanpour is correct that many in west are comfortable with the leadership of Erdogan. Under him Turkey's economy has boomed and the country has moved closer towards the European Union. Erdogan isn't a Muslim leader like those in Iran who is battling against modernity but more like Mahathir in Malaysia who is trying to find a way to balance Islam with the modern world.

That doesn't mean though that Erdogan and his party should be embraced. The amount of power he is consolidating is troubling along with how much of a role that he wants Islam to play in secular Turkish society.

Obviously, because by default the leaders which serve their own citizens the least are most likely to serve non-citizens more. That makes them attractive to those who seek to maximize their power/profits through theft of rights of foreigners.

It's not an incredibly complicated idea, which is why Egypt's Mubarak was so popular with the US, Israel and other US allies. Morsi is not doing much better for his people, but what he's doing is just not as efficient and helpful to foreign interests as Mubarak.

I am curious but do you think improving the economy and standard or living doesn't serve the citizens of a country?

That goes to show how little you know. Turkey has not moved one inch closer to the European Union, but Islamist Erdogan has really proven why we do not want them in.

That, again, is completely wrong. Erdogan's clear goal is to move Turkey away from secularity and towards an Islamic state. His dream is a Caliphate led by Turkey and by himself.

Any proof that he wants to rule the whole Muslim world and declare himself the Caliph? Or is this just another one of your blind ramblings?...

I wouldn't say the idea is unheard of as a quick search online brings up a number of hits on this topic.

This might be the most ignorant post I have ever read on here and that is saying a lot with the majority crowd on this sight.

It seems even more relevant after the post above to ask the question:

Any proof you are not an idiot?

Not very compelling....lets go through it...

I don't have your source article so I have no idea who the guy is or what he is basing his assertion on.

Again, nothing here to indicate the creation of Caliphate with himself at the head.

This statement is badly worded, but it sounds like the guy is saying that Erdogan has impacted a youth movement that wants to restore the caliphate - not that Erdogan himself calling for a return to the caliphate.

More than likely it is probably just Assad mad about Turkey assisting rebels in his country. Again, I don't know the exact date of the statements since you haven't given me the source article..

Yes, the fact you haven't provided the proof I have asked for. I thought I could have reasonable discussions with you - I was wrong. Back to the ignore list...
