Correa is still the #1 prospect... even if Singleton is the first one to make it to the big leagues.

Springer is above both Folty and Cosart... probably neck and neck between him and Singleton for #3 (Cosart, Appel #1 and 2).

    1. Correa
    2. Appel
    3. Singleton
    4. Springer
    5. Foltynewicz
    6. McCullers

IMO. Deshields and Cosart would be 7-8 in some order with a whole gaggle of players in the next tier.

    I'd go-
    Correa
    Appel
    Singleton
    Springer
    McCullers
    Foltynewitz
    Cosart
    DeShields
    Santana

If only we had a solid, high ceiling prospect to round out the top 10. Santana is only 20 with 12 HRs in AA ball. High hopes for this kid.

How long would Buchanon have to keep doing what he is doing before he would be considered a legit prospect? Or does he just not have the "stuff" to translate to the majors regardless of what his minor league numbers are?

Been wondering the same thing myself. Will he project as a starter with his stuff at higher levels?

    Buchanan's probably a back-of-the-rotation guy.

He'll never be considered much of a prospect. He doesn't have the stuff. Same for David Martinez.

For him to be taken seriously, he'll have to show it at the big league level to get people believing. Has a 4-5 pitch mix, with good location.

Remember, command/location typically trumps speed on a fastball. I wouldn't rule Buchanan out just yet.

    A streak is over.

    Domestic sweep!

    Recap

    Oklahoma City 8, Iowa 5

The Redhawks drew even in their series with the Cubs thanks to a nice outing from Asher Wojciechowski. He went 5 2/3 and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits (solo homer), walked 3, and struck out 7. He got 2 outs in the 6th on 2 pitches, but after a single and a walk, he was knocked out after Junior Lake blooped an RBI single to right field to make it a 3-2 game. Kevin Chapman bailed Wojo out and got 1 out in the 7th. but he was knocked out after loading the bases.

Alex Sogard came on, and then Jose Martinez's flub resulted in 2 I-Cubs runs in the top of the 7th. Sogard got a strikeout for the 2nd out, but a walk resulted in him being lifted for Rhiner Cruz, who got Junior Lake to ground into a force out to end the inning. Cruz retired the side in the 8th, but not before allowing a solo homer to Ian Stewart. That was the only hit and the only run he allowed in his 1 1/3 innings, and he fanned 1. Jose Valdez closed it (13) by striking out the Cubs on 11 pitches.

On offense, Brett Wallace went 3-4 with a 2-run homer (9) in the 2nd. In the 3rd, Jose Martinez chipped in with his only hit of the afternoon, an RBI double. Andy Simunic got an RBI on a squeeze play in the 6th and hit a 2-run single in the 7th. Also in the 6th, Jonathan Villar stole 3rd (20) and scored on the errant throw. Wallace scored on an error in the 7th. Villar was 0-1, but he walked twice, scored twice, and stole 2 bases (21). Che-Hsuan Lin also drew 2 walks and stole 2 bases (12). Cody Clark went 2-4 with a run scored.

In game 3 of this series, Brett Oberholtzer will get the start for OKC. He'll face Chris Rusin at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 6, San Antonio 2

The Hooks earned the series split behind a solid performance from Mike Foltynewicz and another masterful performance from David Martinez.

Folty went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs (on a 2-run triple) on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. Martinez then shut the Missions down for his 4 innings to get the save, allowing 2 hits and fanning 4.

After that 2-run triple off the bat of Eddy Rodriguez gave San Antonio the lead, Corpus went on a 6-0 run to close the game. In the 3rd, Jonathan Singleton responded with a 2-run triple and an errant throw from Cory Spangenberg, who was cutting off the throw from right field, allowed him to score the go-ahead run. Enrique Hernandez finished a single shy of the cycle; his home run (4) came in the 4th. Justin Maxwell got the first hit of his rehab assignment with an RBI single in the 5th. And finally, Domingo Santana put the final touches on with a solo homer (12) to lead off the 8th. Singleton and Jio Mier both went 2-4. Jonathan Meyer had his 14-game hit streak snapped as he went 0-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

The Hooks will now begin a big 4-game series in Frisco. They currently have a 2-game lead over the Roughriders with 6 games left to play in the 1st half. This is definitely their biggest series of the season to this point. Appropriately enough, they'll send out Jake Buchanan to help them start off on the right track. He and Carlos Quevedo will be opposed by Nick McBride at 7:05.

    Lancaster 3, High Desert 1

The 8-game losing streak was snapped behind a strong performance at the plate from Preston Tucker, and a masterful job on the mound from Luis Cruz and Kyle Hallock.

Cruz tossed 5 shutout innings and allowed 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. Hallock allowed a run (in the 9th) on 2 hits and struck out 1 in 1 1/3. After allowing the RBI single to Kevin Rivers, Hallock gave way to Travis Ballew, who ended it by forcing Steve Baron to ground into a double play.

The Jethawks got their 3 in the 6th with an RBI single from Preston Tucker and a 2-run double by M.P. Cokinos. Tucker finished 4-4 with 2 doubles. Cokinos' double was his lone hit of the evening, but it was rather significant. Joe Sclafani was 2-4 with 2 doubles.

Aaron West and a partner to be determined will be on the mound for the series finale at 7:00 Pacific. His opponent is also TBA.

Quad Cities 8, Cedar Rapids 4

Cedar Rapids knocked Lance McCullers out with 4 in the 3rd to take a 4-2 lead, but the River Bandits responded with 6 unanswered to get the win.

McCullers went 4 innings and allowed those 4 runs on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. Dan Minor picked him up with 3 1/3 scoreless, allowing 3 hits, walking 1, and fanning 4. John Neely got his 10th save by retiring all 5 Kernels he faced.

The top third of the order scored all 8 River Bandits runs. Teoscar Hernandez was 0-3, but he walked twice and scored twice. #1 was 2-2 with 3 walks and 3 runs scored. Jesse Wierzbicki went 3-5 with an RBI single in the 5th, a 3-run homer (4) in the 8th, and scored 3 runs. Rio Ruiz hit an RBI single in the 1st that put Quad Cities on the board first. Also in the 1st, Wierzbicki scored on an error when they tried to double him off a Roberto Peña line-drive out. Jobduan Morales hit a 2-run single in the 7th that put QC up 5-4, and one inning later, Wierzbicki provided the cherry with his homer.

In the middle game of this series, Colton Cain and Mike Hauschild will be tonight's pairing. Their opponent for Cedar Rapids will be Jose Berrios, the #6 prospect in the Twins system, according to Baseball America. First pitch is at 7:00 PM.

DSL Rays 7, DSL Astros 6

Again, a late-inning rally decided the outcome. Unfortunately, the Academy was on the wrong end of it, as the Rays scored 2 in the 9th to take the lead. All but one of the Academy's runs came off miscues by the Rays.

Arturo Michelena went 2-4 with a run scored. Both of his hits were doubles. Jesus Bermejo had the only RBI, coming off a groundout in the 2nd. Marlon Avea scored on a passed ball in the inning. Michelena scored in the 6th as Hector Roa attempted a sac bunt and an error allowed Roa to reach 2nd. Also in the inning, Randy Cesar scored on a double play, and Roa scored on a wild pitch. And in the 7th, Kristian Trompiz scored on a wild pitch.

Harold Arauz went 3 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Joselo Pinales tagged in for 2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Gerardo Juarez allowed a run on 2 hits and struck out 3 in 3 innings of work. Angel Heredia blew it, allowing 2 runs (1 inherited) on 3 hits and walking 1 while only getting 1 out in the 9th. Javier Saucedo finished it out, but not before allowing 1 of Heredia's runs to score.

The DSLstros are at the Rays' complex. Game is either in progress, or completed.

    Three Stars

    3.

    Luis Cruz, P, Lancaster
    5 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K

Cruz certainly did his part in ending the streak. 5 shutout innings in pitchers' hell isn't easy. Then again, he and Kyle Hallock did throw a no-hitter in pitchers' hell.

    2.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Jesse Wierzbicki, 1B, and Dan Minor, P, and John Neely, P, Quad Cities

    Wierzbicki: 3-5, HR(4), 4 RBI, 3 R
    Minor: W(3-1), 3.1 IP, 3 H, BB, 4 K
    Neely: Save(10), 1.2 IP

Wierzbicki has been a nice organizational bat to have. His RBI single sparked the run, and the 3-run homer capped off a huge win for the River Bandits.

Minor and Neely were both excellent in picking up Lance McCullers, as they handcuffed Cedar Rapids' offense for the final 5 innings. Their performance on the mound helped the offense get going, and Minor's efforts were rewarded with the W.

    1.

    David Martinez, P, Corpus Christi
    Save(1), 4 IP, 2 H, 4 K

Martinez continues to defy logic. Honestly, I think he could become a useful reliever in the Wilton Lopez mold.

    Honorable Mentions

Brett Wallace, 1B, Oklahoma City: Well, he's living up to his reputation.

Asher Wojciechowski, P, Oklahoma City: Tough luck to end his otherwise solid outing. He's responded rather well from getting shelled on the road to end May.

Mike Foltynewicz, P, Corpus Christi: He has allowed more than 3 hits once since his promotion. Walks are a little too high, but I think that's a product of him trying to harness that power stuff.

Enrique Hernandez, 2B, Corpus Christi: Really nice game from Hernandez. He's one of the younger players in the Texas League, so his struggles shouldn't be a concern. He doesn't have great upside, but he has value in the organization because of his positional versatility.

Preston Tucker, RF, Lancaster: So yeah, he's a pretty good hitter. Looks like coming back to The Hangar has recharged his bat, after he slumped terribly during that debacle of a roadtrip.

Carlos Correa, SS, Quad Cities: 13.2%. That is his walk rate. The Midwest League's average is 9.2%. Not too shabby.

    Goat

    Angel Heredia blew it.

Dishonorable mention goes to George Springer for a golden sombrero.

I think it's about time to take Wojiechowski seriously. After the big 6 and maybe Cosart he's our best prospect.

Based on scouting reports I've seen he doesn't lack stuff, 92-95 fastball and great slider. He has been spectacular since he got here.

Some video of Mike Foltynewicz last night from Baseball Prospectus' Jason Cole. The BP guys are ooh-ing and ahh-ing about Folty on twitter right now. Basically, he touches 101 in this video and is sitting 97-99, with big time arm-side run on his fastball. Practically impossible to square up.

    Damn, tellit got there first.

If Folty's changeup continues to progress and he can cut down on the walks, watch out...

    Lol

You can't outscoop tellitlikeitis, you should know better. If you find Astros farm news, just assume he found it first.

The site won't even let me rep him anymore.

I was watching the MiLB highlight video of Singleton hitting a triple last night, and I have to say... Singleton looks like he's gained a pound or 30. Dude looks pretty chubby right now, and he was huffing trying to get to third (and subsequently home after an errant throw).

That's kind of surprising to me since he's been at EST for a while, not just sitting at home.

So what does it take to get a 8/8 fastball?
