Every hipster/geek/designer who needs all the bells and whistles without having a damn tower humming in the background. It's most impressive. On a post maintainability/customization scale, it's probably a 1/10, but still cool.
NUCs are what Intel are pushing, predicting to be the future of Desktops since last year. When the integrated graphics can play HD video and they run with passive cooling it really does cut down on the size of PCs for most users.
Maybe I missed it with all the teenage girl sniping that was going on, but what's the deal with the delayed release of the OS? Why would you have an event hyping up an operating system that you can't release for a few more months? Is the OS not ready, or is it just going to be a resource hog on the current versions of the phones? Also, I've been in the market for a new phone forever, and have found countless reasons to push it off. I'm down to my last reason....waiting for the next version of the iphone. Is there some sort of conference scheduled this fall where they would normally release it, or is just going to be a guessing game through sept/oct/nov? Thanks
Don't they usually release the new OS with a new iPhone? Developers need to get on the beta testing to create/update software.
It hasn't been scheduled yet. I'm sure it'll eventually leak though when it'll take place. My guess would be October but nothing's for certain. Usually when it's a major update to an OS like this one, that's correct. That's most likely why it'll be coming in the fall when they're doing their fall event to announce iPhones and iPads.
Have they ever had an event for just the OS revamp without the associated hardware? It seems like it would be a bit more seamless to unveil it all together, rather than tell you about the OS and then have you wait around for a few months before it is available. Feels like Blackberry. Maybe it's more practical for developers, etc, but sort of a let down. And more importantly, it leaves me skeptical as to whether the current phones/tablets can handle this OS, or if upgraded hardware will be needed for it.
I don't believe so for major OS updates. Each iPhone that came out had a major OS update and was released around when a new iPhone came out. I think the purpose for them to announce it at the Developers conference was pretty much for Developers to experiment and work with it to update/create apps. They released the beta to Developers on Monday. I know one developer that I follow on twitter tweeted that the iPhone 4s wasn't handling it as smoothly compared to the iPhone 5.
I think the new Macbook Pro is ugly because it's a horrible form factor. A cylinder takes up so much space and is awkward to carry, if their purpose was to make it more portable. There are already mini desktops that come in box conformations that are way more practical and portable. But then again, Apple will Apple and hipsters will buy their products up.
its actually pretty small so you're reaching for something negative to say about it when you say it takes up too much space. lol dunno how something this powerful gets anymore portable, by any other product on market. show me something if there is
It's 9.9" tall and 6.6" in diameter (340 cubic inches). A cylinder also has a lot of dead space to the corners. That's why you never see cylindrical buildings. Intel has its NUC desktop line and they measure 4.5 x 4.5 x 1.5 (30 cubic inches). That can fit in your hand easily. While its specs aren't nearly as beastly as the Mac Pro is, you can imagine putting the Mac Pro specs into a smaller chassis, given their volumes. My mistake. I'm not that familiar with Apple's line of products.
I'm not dogging the specs. It is a very powerful desktop. I just think the design is silly and impractical. And clarification for above, by smaller chassis, I primarily mean a traditional box conformation that allows for stacking/space saving.
I think the form factor is designed more to be a better cooling form factor based on the fan placements etc. I know it's not the typical design and cylinders take up more space but the cooling aspect is very interesting.
