No leaks or anything, nationally or from Paul's camp, does that make you think there is no chance?

I look at Paul as a guy who has, as far as we know, never expressed interest in the Rockets. In the past, the Rockets were in the Paul/Gasol deal, the Rockets were satisfying everything on the Hornets end. (Cuts off, resume at 25:52) It appeared he had no interest in the Rockets. I tried to talk to him about it, he tried to move past it, saying he didn't remember the deal. We have no idea if he's interested in the Rockets. It will come down to, if Dwight decides to come here, does he say "I wants to form a trio similar to the Heat"? It will all be based on his insistence to come here and we have no indication he's interested. That's the only thing that will make it happen. The Rockets don't have the cap room. The Rockets will have to make multiple trades to be able to sign both players.

So it's not just trading Robinson and calling it a day?

That's just for Dwight Howard. You can't sign both unless they took half of what they could make on the open market. You'll have to move Robinson, Asik and Lin as well.

Not a fan of giving Asik away. If it gives you a chance for Paul too, move Asik out of there. A) You have to...but I still think the Rockets can win at a high level, even with just Dwight.

I agree. There is talk of Dwight being on the decline. I don't believe that's what we're seeing. I think he's the guy who will impact your defense the most. That's the biggest jump they need to make. Dwight Howard is the player that can have the biggest impact and you're adding him outright. You're not losing anyone(outside of Robinson and/or White). It would be a major addition.

McHale an appeal for Dwight? That's the first time I heard that from any player.

I agree with you, that is the first time I've heard it but I'm not surprised. Dwight Howard is a big man, he feels he hasn't been used properly and McHale is a HOF big man. They do run PnR, which he reportedly wants to get away from and get the ball in the post but I can see it being an attraction for Dwight Howard.

You're not tied to one offense. If you want twin towers, you go twin towers. This is a fluid situation. If you need to change your offense, you change it up. ... If you got Dwight, you got to bring Dream in and let him work with Howard. That has to be a tremendous not only honor but an advantage the Rockets have.

I believe he has done a week or less of working out with Olajuwon. It would be a valuable resource to have. It would be ideal. Dwight has so much growth to do on the offensive end. I would agree, he would have a lot to learn. Asik & Dwight together, I do see some value there. I'm not sure you can do it for extensive minutes. The real value keeping those two is assuring you have 48 minutes of top play at the center position.

What you trade off on the offensive end, you gain back in defensive badassedness.

My only concern is clogging the lane. Both players have limited to zero range. But you're right, they can be flexible and go with different options there. It's a matter of does it clog it up for Harden/Lin on the PnR.

How much of the lack of success for the Lakers down low was because Dwight and Pau both need touches, where Asik doesn't.

I feel so much of that was coaching. Outside of their big four, they had a miserable team. That is not Mike D'Antoni's fault. They had injuries as well. The way they used Howard and Gasol was not effective. They should have adjusted more. Gasol was playing further out. When he was playing the C role and in the post and Howard stepped out, he was more effective. They could have done some things that made that a better marriage but fortunately for the Rockets, it was a rough season and that opened the door, because who would have thought a year ago, Dwight would consider leaving.

    Thanks for the transcription J.R.

I can see Howard and Asik working. Especially since Asik doesn't need touches to be effective.

But lack of FT% and clogging up the lane hurts our current stretch the floor strategy. I can definitely see us moving away from the stretch the floor / Harden iso strategy if we picked up Howard and kept Asik

I don't think that the dream training Dwight will do him any better than McHale training Dwight! I feel as if everyone here thinks the dream was great because his post moves fed by knowledge; not by athleticism. The Dream was great because he was smart and had freakish athleticism. I don't know if y'all fully understand how fast the Dream declined once he lost that athleticism. He was a great center, best ever in my opinion. but it was not because he just has endless knowledge. he has above average knowledge that was maximized by his freakish seven footer athleticism. It is honestly mind blowing to think of his combination of size and athleticism. never again will there be another Hakeem. He was the greatest and best of all he was loyal to the franchise. something that anymore is relatively unheard of. But everybody please stop referring to him like he knows just so much more than McHale does. McHale has just as much if not more post tricks to teach since he was also a veteran in the league. Love Hakeem, but lets just leave him alone to enjoy his retirement; He has earned that right!!

well... and also having a physical "grace" or...smoothness to his decisions. The way he could swing side-to-side and move his feet is unparalleled. You can be smart and athletic and still be jagged and jerky. Dream just... spoiled me as a Houston basketball fan in my youth, haha. dammit. :)

Dwight is probably as athletic as Hakeem was. Hakeem was just on another level because of his skillset. So was McHale, offensively, compared to Dwight. That said I agree this is a good place for a post up big to be.

Dwight may be as athletic overall as Dream, but as bro alluded to, no body will ever have the foot work of Dream. That's what made Dream great down low!
