Anyone that saw blood diamond knows this, but this article gives a nice history on the sham and monopoly that is diamond pricing http://www.businessinsider.com/why-diamonds-are-a-sham-2013-3
Yep, I discovered this truth a few years back. Shows you the power of marketing and advertising. It took a lot of convincing for my ex-fianceƩ not to get any diamonds for her rings or jewelry once I told her about De Beers, blood diamonds, and all the above. However, her girl friends, her mother, her female relatives, and even her gay friends would not accept the truth. This pervasive materialism had been inculcated too well be the media and society. It was a brick wall which only added to the existing tension between us and them. When people wonder where so much pressure to consume as a way of life comes from, it's also peer pressure like this.
I learned this in middle school, before there will be blood ever came out. If you think you have to buy an engagement ring because it is a great investment then you have more to learn about women than you do about diamonds.
Who thinks engagement rings are an investment at all? And what does thinking about investments and knowing women have to do with each other. If you think most women don't care about an engagement ring, you have a lot to learn about women.
if I ever get married again, i want a moissanite ring. the diamond trade is horrible and bull**** peer pressure/marketing schemes can't change that.
lol at the dudes that spend a mil plus for diamonds...and think of all the idiots that wear that "ice" around their necks...lol...guess my folks were right...stockpiling on gold jewelry is just smarter...
Let's all stop wearing clothes too. Or buying products from companies that donate to certain countries. Etc etc etc Why is this in the hangout?
Funny this thread came up. I filled out a class action lawsuit a few years ago against DeBeers and just got my check in the mail yesterday. $150, for filling out an application! Anybody else get one?
