They do have to maintain support and servers for that stuff. I can see why certain aspects should be free, i.e. Netflix/Hulu that you already paying for.

    Ordered a PS4.

Definitely, definitely, DEFINITELY, do not like the idea of needing PS Plus to play online. Even if it's $5 a month and there are "free" goodies that come with it.

But so far the PS4 just outclasses Xboxdone in every way.

Also no Last Guardian mentions at all....lol

Why are PS2, PS3, PSP, PSV, Wii, Wii U, PC, etc., free? You can pay for that stuff with ads or other revenue methods.

Or since most gamers (particularly those who game a lot online anyway) will get PS+ anyway, just let it be a nice bullet point for your system.

So what happens with PS3 when the PS4 requires PLUS for PSN?

Maybe if the internet community complains enough they'll allow us to play online for free.

Hahaha! I think Sony might be hurting themselves with game developers. That's why I hate this r****ded exclusive games over the consoles war

They made a big deal out of remaining disc-based. At the very least you'll need the disc to play a game, otherwise there's nothing to stop people from buying one game and passing it around to ten friends for free. That being the case, one would think that full installs wouldn't be necessary.

Meh. I'm sure we'll find out in the coming days.

Guessing it stays free. Seemed to specify PS4 only as requiring a subscription.

Probably same day MS drops DRM from Xbone.

They knew how the community would respond.

Just need to do a disc check, but run off the installed data. I'm just thinking about how it would help with game performance and all that. And you shouldn't have to do a full install like the PS3 (should be able to play while installing).

Maybe you're right though. I think installs are good in general (when done properly), so I'd actually prefer them. But yeah, HDD space could be a problem then.

i wonder why microsoft would doom themselves with all the online checks and no used games thing. seems like an odd strategy, i would have figured since it favors publishers that maybe they were the ones forcing it on ms but since sony doesn't have it, what gives?

    Almost assuredly nothing.

They made clear that the fee is only for online play for PS4 games. You can still do stuff like watch Netflix for free. So it looks like the fee is tied to PS4 games specifically. I don't think they're dumb enough to begin applying fees to PS3 online play, they'd just generate bad will for very little return on a last-gen system.

Sony kissing customer ass instead of Developer ass. What a mistake.

    Supports used games
    Destiny looks ridiculously good"

I still think online is going to be free. PLUS was optional for demos, free games, etc.

Why would they make getting PLUS mandatory?
