Good episode. Loved the small council scene. Everyone went uh oh when Joffrey called out Tywinn. Then Tywinn calmly sending Joffrey off to bed. Good stuff. Nice set up for next season.

I said I missed it in the episode. That's why I asked the question. The phrasing of his answer, combined with his last post, made it sound like he was taking the liberty of adding information. I apologized.

Good episode, but yes mostly a setup for next season. Can't wait.

    BOOK SPOILERS BELOW:
So how do you book readers think it will play out next season? I think PW will be 2nd episode, 4th-5th Ygritte's death, Tyrion ownage I guess in the 9th again. I really hope they don't do the Tyrion episode at 9 again though. People will be expecting it.

I didn't have any issue with the finale, it served it's purpose lots of set up for next season.

I did enjoy the small council chamber scene quite a bit.

Awesome episode till the very end. That pretty much sucked ass.

Danerys's story line is not interesting at all. I get it, she is just an awesome human being, hot and lovable and has mother ****in dragons. Did they really need to sign the season off on reconfirming that?

    Very underwhelming and over dramatic.

Think they were really going for a dramatic ending like the other seasons but I agree with was overcooked.

Gotta figure that her story line gets interesting once she is integrated with the other main characters, but I agree completely...with so much other stuff going on in westeros, her storyline is currently so low on the list of things people care about, that it didn't really make sense for that to be the final scene of the season.

I agree but my wife was really excited about her so maybe they're playing to a difference audience. No idea. I was pretty meh about it.

The episode was underwhelming to say the least. The last two finales have been really good IMHO. Last weeks was the best so far so i guess its hard to top that. Most of this was a set up for next season...

I loved the council scene and when Arya overheard the guys talking about her mother/brother and got her revenge...

^^This. My wife loved the scene, too.

It didn't have the impact of The Red Wedding, but everything had to end on a positive note.

I thought the imagery was great. It answered my question, How do you keep the audience for next season after last episode's brutality, especially that part of the audience that thought
    Robb Stark
    :) was cute and
should live to avenge his father
    :p.

I will say that this season brilliantly played to women, who aren't your traditional fantasy enthusiasts, while not losing the nerd (which includes me) vote. It finally bridged the gulf that Sean Bean's absence left in the series (although the gravity of "nicer Boromor"'s star power still lacks, Peter Dinklage and Charles Dance notwithstanding).

I am curious how much of next season will be the rest of Book 3 (about 40% of the book remains) and how much will be Books 4 and 5 (which each deal with different characters and run mostly concurrently).

I mostly liked it (Arya, Gendry, Davos), but it had two big weaknesses:

    (1) It had to wrap up every single story line, and even introduced the Greyjoys again back in Pike, and so was comprised of many 5- and 7-minute snippets;

    (2) It followed the Red Wedding, which was a kick in the nuts. It's like when Styx in 1983 followed up Sammy Hagar at the Texxas Jam and was roundly booed. Hey, I like Styx, too, but in Texas, you can't win by following meat-and-potatoes rock with Tin Pan Alley-ish Mr. Roboto. (Okay, maybe it's a stupid comparison.)

I did like what finally happened with Bran. His story was boring as hell until the last 2 episodes. Then it kicked in.

They should have ended it with Baric Dondarrion finding Catelyn...praying to the god of light...then roll credits...but it makes a little sense that they need to make a casting change for next season.

Funny that I also thought this. Won't happen, but I'd love to see some justice done to some forthcoming storylines. Apparently Book 6 will open with two big battles. How the hell will they afford that on HBO?

It won't happen (HBO Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox present...) but (sigh) I'd pay the money. Hell, I got HBO for GoT anyway...

The character development just wouldn't be there.

They should have a 2 hour special on the war before game of thrones. So we can learn about Rhaegar and stuff.

Initially, I thought that they might bleed into books 4 and 5, but now I'm starting to think that the main story arc for the season will be:

WARNING: This pretty much spoils all the major plot points of next season.

Joffrey's wedding and death followed by Tyrion's imprisonment and trial then escape and murder of Tywin and Shae. I could see that taking an entire season. Wedding prep for 2 or 3 episodes. Joff's death in episode 3 or 4. 3 or 4 episodes when he's imprisoned and on trial. 1 episode with the Red Viper vs. the Mountain. And then Tyrion gets his revenge in ep. 9 or 10.

    You have all that plus:

The Night's Watch vs the Wildlings Jon was with.
The battle against the full Wildling army when Stannis arrives.
The Hound's death and Arya buying passage to Braavos.
    Dany conquering Mereen.
Sansa and Littlefinger escaping to the Eyrie and the murder of Lysa Arryn.
The continuation of the Jamie/Brienne storyline.

Final scene is the appearance of Lady Stoneheart.

Not sure what they'll have for Bran though. His storyline might actually bleed a little into the other books.

As cool as a movie would be I am happy that they decided to make a TV series out of this instead. There is just so much happening and so many plots that a movie would have so much lost in the translation. You get 10 hours of material per season just by going with the TV format with 10 episodes. This give the producers so much more room to actually adhere to the book as much as they can, and only change a few things to make it go smoother.

is Bran's mission go beyond the wall now a personal mission to use his abilities to help fight the White Walkers, somehow?

in other words, why doesn't he want to go to Castle Black, instead, to find his brother Jon?
