Warning Non-Book Readers, potential spoilers Spoiler I think it would have been a good cliff hanger on par with the previous finales (S1- Oh ****, dragons!, S2- White Walkers!) but I'm not too upset they didn't show it. I think it's too soon after the Red Wedding, and now they have plenty of material and events to work with in season 4. But - I feared a reason they might not have shown it is that the actress that plays Catelyn, Michelle Fairley, might not return as Lady Stonheart, and they might have to recast the role?
The episode was pretty weak, and I usually love the hell out of every episode. Maybe it just pales in comparison because the last episode was one of the best.
GRRM's best book was this season. I don't know what the show has in store but I sure as hell hope its better than his piece of $hit writing that follows. There is no need for all that fluff he includes in books and all the stupid twists. Personally I will have to disagree with people here and eat crow for my initial response. The book (SOS) is amazing and worth the read but the way they are carrying this on right now is better (changes they've made). HBO probably pulled GRRM aside and crossed half the pages out of his future books out and told him to keep it real.
Well the 9th episodes are usually the intense, climactic episodes of each season. The 10th episode mostly acts as a denouement and cliffhanger.
Can't believe this season is already over. I liked the finale, but it didn't really get me excited for the next season (even though I know next season will be bananas); they should have ended with Red Wedding. What do you guys think of GoT having the penultimate episode of each season being the most dramatic? If this season ended with Red Wedding the anticipation for the next season would be at a fever pitch. I wouldn't have minded if this episode would have been the premiere for the next season.
I sure as hell hope not. He knows what he's doing, I don't feel like it's fluff. What was fluff in the episode? I didn't like the episode too much, because it felt like it was just one huge set up episode. This would have been a fine episode in the middle of the season, but now it's just disappointing to end it on that. It's just the ending was very weak. The last two seasons endings were great. The Dragons and then the White Walkers. The ending was so weak, everyone knows Dany rules the city now. They could have thrown that in there in the middle of the show. All the other stuff in the middle of the show was typically great stuff though. Not sure what I would have ended it on any ways. It was just a case of a bad ending for me. The rest of the show was great, then I remembered the title of the show and then realized they have yet to show Dany and I was like "Oh no, they are going to use that as the final scene?" Guess they didn't have much else to use though, I agree that the red wedding would have been a better fitting end to this season.
peopls head would have exploded if the red wedding was the season finale. I'm glad they do these aftermath episode. Way better executed than Walking Dead.

They didn't mention Edmure, only that the Blackfish escaped. The audience thought that at one point Ned was the main protagonist but then he was killed. So they thought that his son must then be the protagonist and now he's dead. I think that maybe they ended with Dany, complete with an aerial view of her, her army, her loving followers, and her dragons as a way to make the audience think "ah, maybe Dany is the one I should be rooting for". They might have even set it up earlier with Stannis telling Davos about how Aegon Targaryen took over Westeros with a smaller army than those he faced. For those who gleamed over the scene, Bran's story about the "Rat Cook" is very good and parallels much of what happened in the last episode.
Never read the books... I assume that he is still alive since Walder Frey didn't mention he was dead when referring to the other people that died in the same sentence. What he said...
Actually you are wrong. Walder Frey said he spent his wedding night in the dungeon. So sorry that he simply stated a fact that was presented in the show. You are so paranoid about "book readers" that you assume everything that you cant remember from an episode as a spoiler from the books.
the blackfish is a badass. He leaves to take a piss (before RW) and then dives into the river to escape.
at the end of the day.. is this story really just about jon,bran and arya?..do other characters really matter?...please let me know if im on the right track..no spoilers please..
I'm just going to spoil it just in case. But I feel... Spoiler The story is really more about the world these characters live in. It's more about Dragons and White Walkers. It is called 'A Song of Ice and Fire' just that some characters play a larger role in the world than others of course...like Bran, Jon, Dany, Tyrion etc.
No, I wouldn't say that at all. No spoilers, but with both the show and the books, as much as Martin tries to be unpredictable, I think you can pick out a few characters that he seems to regard as more important and/or that he likes better. For instance -- and I won't even say the character name, because people seem very sensitive in this thread -- there's a character that Martin has come out and said during interviews is his favorite. Many times. Likelihood that character will die? Eh, probably not very high. Whereas I don't get the feeling he liked Rob very much. He was truthfully pretty bland as characters go.
