Don't forget the no taxes argument as well. Once Houston signs Dwight (by clearing T-Rob) CP3 will not want to go to Atlanta alone. J.Smith will go to 76s. Atlanta will not refuse a package of Asik, Lin, White = 18.4m for a future first and second. They need to make minimum cap anyways. Or maybe Charlotte or Detroit will take this deal? Throw in Parsons as a last resort and they they'll come running but I don't think it will get to this. Houston will use the leverage of being able to create the space to sign Paul outright against the Clips thus forcing a sign and trade. Paul / Beverley / Brooks (vet min) Harden / Garcia (room exception) / Rice jnr (vet min) Parsons / Garcia / 2nd Rounder Jones / D-mo / Aldemir Howard / G.Smith / J.Oneal (vet min) Hardest part is selling a team on Asik, Lin, White + $2.1m cash... Very few teams can take on the $18.4m salary... Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, Mavs... May have to throw in Parsons to make it attractive enough.
I think we should sign dwight outright. After this we can trade Lin, Asik, and my LEFT NUT for CP3. I checked on ESPN trade machine, it works.
I don't think Lin would make a good 6th man. He was a 6th man in Golden State and he sucked. He was the primary option on his team in New York and a few games in Houston when Harden was injured and he was excellent. I don't think 6th man is a good fit for Lin.
6th man in GS? Like, when he averaging fewer than 10 minutes a game over the course of only 29 games? lol
He could be a good sixth man, he just needs to dominate to ball to do it. I don't think he was given free reign in golden state to do that
What makes more sense to me is if we don't get Dwight we sign Paul outright and then dangle Lin for JSmoove in a S&T.
While CP3 is a great player both he and Harden need the ball to be effective. I am not sure how well it would work. Could be great or it could be a disaster but would be well worth giving it a try. I have stated many times that I think bringing in Howard is a mistake given his attitude and that fact that he has a bad back. It scares me to death that we end up with a locker-room cancer and/or have max money tied up in an injured center who can't play again.
Exactly. I'm actually more worried about Paul's knees than Howard's back. Dwight isn't like Tracy with a pre-existing condition. He had one injury, underwent surgery to fix it and continued to improve physically as the season went along. By his second year post-surgery, all indications are that he'll come close to his old form. Paul's situation is much more worrisome, given the repeated nature of his knee injuries and the pounding they take running up and down every night. Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled to land either of them, but Paul worries me more from a durability standpoint.
i just have a feeling that the lakers would be more willing to play ball in a S&T. i really think that Lin and Asik would pair well with what the lakers already have. we would have to bring in a third team to help facilitate the trade (by using their cap space and/or draft picks) and we could give them T Rob for their troubles (may be Charlotte or Cleveland)
Harden was effective with Westbrook, I fail to see how it would be a disaster playing with a superior play-making Point Guard, and CP3 is a great spot up shooter.
Yea his knees are a concern but not as much as DH's back plus he doesn't have near the potential of being a locker room cancer as DH. I have never had bad knees but I have had two separate back operations(on two different disc) for the exact same issue that DH has. I KNOW that I am not the same man I used to be and I don't make a living running and jumping for dunks/rebounds. If I did, I would be in trouble.
"Great players understand that you need to play with other great players to win the title." - Daryl Morey
Hey, I said it would be well worth the try and would more than likely work out well. The difference is that this is now Harden's team while he was always the third fiddle in OKC. I think he and CP3 are professional enough to make it work but you never know.
So remind me how well DH teaming up with Kobe and Nash worked out??? Morey's statement is true for the right kind of player. I am not 100% sold on DH being that kind of player after seeing all the drama he put the Magic through and how he played with Kobe not to mention the fact that he has a bad back.
I wasn't implying you did say it wouldn't work out, simply that it would work in a hypothetical world. Harden displayed the ability to work off ball while in OKC with Westbrook, allowing CP3 to run the show as a 'true' PG, and CP3 is an excellent spot up shooter (Synergy has his scoring 1.24 Point per possession in spot up attempts, ranking 21st in the NBA) allowing Harden to also be the ball handler. In addition to this, they are both the best at their respective positions at running the pick and roll. A lineup with CP3/Harden/Parsons/Howard/Asik would literally be able to pick and roll a team to death.
Lin and Asik with one more year left on their contracts and 8.3 isnt going to keep the lakers out of signing some one next year its the Nash, Pau, and Kobe's contracts on the other hand would. look at it this way if the lakers dont get howard to re-sign and kobe isnt ready to play who the heck are the lakers going to have? pau and nash (f healthy) then who? Lin could learn tons from nash and play well enough that nash could stay healthy by playing less minutes and Asik would be great paired with pau in the front court. Lin and Asik would be even more valuable in a S&T next off season bc they will only have one year left on their contracts.
LOL....Chris Paul is not coming to Houston.....well to play them but not to play for them EVER! Why would he?
