To illustrate what you are saying.... this, from a post I made in a couple of older threads... First 44 games of the season - Rockets go 22-22 (.500). Lin is shooting .423 from the field, .279 on threes, .775 at the line... he's averaging 3.8 boards a game, 6.0 assists, 2.0 steals, 3.0 turnovers and 12.0 points per game. Over the final 38 games (46% of an NBA season), the Rockets go 23-15 (.605, which would equate to a 50 win season). Lin shoots .461 from the field, .398 on threes, .795 from the line... his rebounds drop to 2.2, assists rise to 6.2, steals drop to 1.3, turnovers dip to 2.8 and his scoring increases to 15.0 ppg. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=7936647#post7936647
I don't have a problem with Lin I just know hes not as good as people try to make him out to be but it doesn't mean he cant get better though
Huh, interesting you got that reaction. My time in the GARM (lurking, not just posting), I would have said Lin's much better than people on here make him out to be TONS of people slam him and make him sound much worse than he is, often without ever looking at stats. I get it, it was an overreaction from the initial flood of LOFs, but I think that group has slowly died out over time (or I hope?) Lin's not amazing, he isn't going to give us Linsanity regularly...but he isn't that bad either. I think he's adequate. He's about right for $8M. I hope he gets better, and all indications say he will. Currently, he still has a lot to work on, primarily getting his defense to above average (our defensive system sucks so our guys really have to be better man on man) and getting his TOs down.
The thing about Lin is that when he figures out how to control his hot streaks, he'll be a mega star. If he was on fire in the playoffs, no telling how far we would have gone. I would take a hot Jeremy Lin backed up by a consistent Rocket team over the Heat. I like that you snuck Toney Allen onto this team. It appears he's unrestricted and we could use a defensive specialist. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nba/1065/tony-allen
Why can't people accept that Jeremy Lin is simply an average starting point guard in the NBA? Nothing more, nothing less.
I think it's clear if you can upgrade Lin with CP3 you do it in a heartbeat, but if you can't you aren't going to cry with Lin at point next year either.
Not many people dislike him? Then how do you explain him being boo'ed by the crowd when introduced by a DJ in a Houston club? Look, let's be honest. Houston has NEVER liked or accepted him because he is thought of as a product of NY media hype machine (maybe there was some truth to that. But a small market jealousy nonetheless) and as someone who was responsible for making DM and LA got rid of The Anointed Darlings of Houston Rockets, GD and KL. Not to mention that it should have been our darlings to grace the cover of SI and be selected Times' 100 Most Influential People (another NY agenda! how dare they tell us who is most influential! Bubba Watson should be the only one!) but alas they got unjustly and totally ignored by the media and then kicked out by the management (fools! we would've gone far in the PO ane even won the championship this year with either of them instead of losing in the first round because of Lin! Wah way )). Come on, LOH, stand up and be counted. Speak up. You know who you are!
2 extremes here: on one side there are the overzealous Lin fans who go out of their way to hype Lin and extoll his virtues and greatness unnecessarily, repeatedly until it becomes irritating. they do this at the expense of the team, or his teammates, or the coaches, they have to put down other members of the team so that they can raise Lin's image up. worse, they are blind to even the most constructive of criticism and feel that Lin can do no wrong. it's as if they want Lin to play 48 minutes per game, score half of the Rockets points, and assist on the other half, plus they want the whole world to know about it. i feel this is the most annoying thing about them - they force their "infallible" opinion about Lin on others. on the other side there are the haters. i don't know the reasons why for these people Lin can and will never do anything right in their eyes. some could be in direct response to the annoying LOF, some could be just flame baiters/trolls, some are borderline racists -- but the thing is, their voice is just as loud and annoying as the LOF. any substitute PG or past PG or future PG will always be better than Lin whether he scores 29 with 10 assists and the other guy's best game is 16 pts and 3 assists. his flaws will always be greater than his strengths and his poor games are magnified while his good games are ignored. for them, he will never be worth his contract no matter what he does. the New York media hype triggered a good portion of this, disproportionately blowing up expectations and at the same time causing a lot of resentment for the 98% who did not get the same treatment. if we were in another time and place, we would ideally marvel at Lin's rise against all odds and draw inspiration from that with tempered expectations. if he does even better, it would be pleasantly surprising and if he levels off, we take his story for what it was worth. he has proven that he belongs in the NBA, whether he matures to be a star or not remains to be seen. as fans, it is quite normal not to like certain players but abnormal to hate with a passion, especially a player who essentially has not done anything close to abhorrent except commit turnovers or not lead a team to a championship, a trait which many in the NBA possess. maybe fans and haters alike, give him a break, so we can all get a break from the chaos.
Everyone on CF loved Lin when he was with the Rockets during Preseason, before going to NY. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he still Asian back then too?. So see, its not racism, or the NY hype, it’s the continued inconsistency he's shown that have many down on him. With the exception of the San Antonio game, Lin really hasn't played up to what he did that Preseason. I don't know if it’s the injury, the system or something else that held him back. But the vast majority of us who were here prior to Lin joining the team, want nothing more than to have him succeed. Because we're for the Rockets first and foremost. Not for or against any single player on the TEAM we love.
Wait, your first sentence didn't disprove it NOT being the NY hype. It sort of supports it... And he hasn't been THAT inconsistent. His games since all star break have been pretty good...throughout 3 months. I'm not saying Lin is someone to write home about, but the hate some people in the GARM have for him, weird. Not only hate, but often not supported by facts or incorrect ones. I really think it is that hype issue. Anyone of note w/ a lot of fans will breed haters, like Justin Bieber haha (prob vice versa as well, see McHale). Just happens w/ 'celebrities' I guess. To get above it, you just have to be REALLY good to shut most critics up. Lin is definitely not there.
People always says Lin need to be more consistent, so I'm just curious to see how inconsistent Jeremy's score is, and how that compare to the rest of the team. So the solid line is the season average of their pts/game, and dotted lines is 1SD, indicates the variation of the pts scored per game. To my eyes, JLin's pts/game has the same scatterness as any one in the team, he is not more consistent than any one, but also not less consistent than any one. (Fine, Beverley is more consistent, but his average is only a bit higher than 5 pts/game, thus you can't vary too much, he already have some 0 pt games。) How about FG%? JLin is comparable to J.Harden. Effective FG%? JLin and J.Harden were the best in the team. So much about Lin's inconsistency. I don't know how to take this, can't help to think people are double standard, or cherry picking on what they want to see Lin's performance. Obviously, if you cut a line at 15 pts/game, and J.Harden pretty much give you that every game, Parsons have more than half of the games score more than that, so in that sense, yeah, JLin need to improve, as the third highest scorer in the team, JLin obviously did not meet that standard, but, but, that's not really consistency, it is production. People has been complaining about JLin is actually his production. I'm pretty sure if JLin could score with average 15,16 pt/game, with the same game to game variation, nobody would complain about his consistency (Like Parsons).
It's kind of funny how all of the media pieces about Howard coming Houston talk about how great he'll be mixed with Harden, Asik and Parsons, but completely ignore Lin. It's like the media is afraid to be high on Lin, even though this season he pretty much matched all reasonable expectations and there's no reason to think he has hit a ceiling. Anyway OP, you should pretty much ignore everyone who is overtly negative about Lin on GARM. Half of them are trolls, and the other half are clueless. As for crazy LOFs, there are a lot fewer of them here than the haters would want you to think; that label gets thrown at everyone who doesn't think we should cut Lin at all costs.
But i definitely am not going to be happy about it. That whiny lame bruised 20 million dollar point guard better improve or count on me going to TC with signs that say trade Lin pls. Lin is Matt Maloney part two... But hey at least Maloney showed up in the playoffs the first year.
