So because some items can illegally abused by criminals, it's a good idea for companies to abuse the customer in the same manner? That's like saying "you guys know that hijack a plane can be taken over and crashed into anything it want's? So who cares if Airline companies decided to stop paying for plane maintenance, ya'll should ride the plane any ways because the peanuts are great".

No, I'm saying cameras are on everything and people don't mind them at all.... In this day and age the only way to truly make sure a camera is not watching you is to either cut the wires and or not have one watching you period. Will you not walk into a store because there are cameras there too and someone in an office in that store is watching you.....

Heck honestly, I didn't like the first Kinect taking pictures of me while I was so joyfully jumping in the air.... But crap, I was not doing anything wrong other than playing a freaking game.... Don't do stupid crap in front of camera's period. Is that so hard? Not just Xbox Kinect but anywhere you know that a camera could be capturing your every move. Laptops and even cell phones can be hacked into. Images stolen and so on... The privacy of our homes and what happens in our homes should never be compromised but as adults we have the choice as well to make decisions that wont compromise our safety and privacy. Don't sell drugs in front of a camera, don't sell drugs period... Don't have sex in front of cameras unless your name is Farrah Abraham and so on...... This is a game console with a camera controller, put it somewhere safe.... And don't do stupid $hit in front of it just like any other freaking camera out there.... Most of yall reading this have a webcam pointed at you, and I don't care how many times you uninstalled the driver... Someone can use that camera....

With that said, Kinect does not bother me too much. It will go in my living room where nothing happens other than my dogs doin it.... I watch Rockets games there so they can prob take a few pictures of me wearing a Dwight Howard Rockets Jersey.... People act like companies didn't put cameras on everything a long time ago. But now that a freaking game console does it everyone starts doing research on privacy and rights and everyone has a standard for what is unacceptable. Honestly, I think they only people crying about it are PS fanboys who have claimed war over Xbox.... Xbox is a freaking console and nothing to fight about.... I Like Xbox, I want it for my living room... I may even buy a PS4 for my room if a tittle arrives for it that I am interested in.... Not gonna see me crying as if I just changed political parties...

We're not talking about a camera that needs to be hacked. We're talking about a camera/microphone placed in the home that's attached to a box that's a) phones home every 24 hours and b) is always on.

I don't want the Kinect... I play FPS's and little else.

How is it different than a cell phone? For whatever reason I trust AT&T isn't flipping the camera/microphone on in the phone to listen in.

I don't trust Microsoft in that regard. There have been previous responses in this thread showing where Microsoft plans to gauge the reactions to advertisements via the Kinect. What else do you think they will come up with for an always on camera/microphone.

You can put something to cover up your webcam.
You CAN'T cover up or impede your Kinect device. It'll prevent you from accessing your Xbox.

So some of you guys are gonna willingly bend over backwards and let microsoft **** you? The whole premise of this console is to make more money for microsoft that before. No used games, one game activation, and even Kinect. Ive read several articles citing microsoft filing for a patent that tracks how many users are watching a movie/playing a game to effectively charge more for their services.

I'm sorry but the premise that bad publicity is good publicity is simply idiotic in this case. Consumers aren't gonna take **** and we've learned that from sim city if they are unhappy they will create a **** storm. Microsoft has already dug a huge hole and the console won't even be released for a full 6 months.

And the worse part it that people are mad about fundamental parts of the system that simply can't be fixed through an update. Microsoft designed this ****er to be a DRM machine.

And don't even compare it to steam.

Actually I think the b****ing is a good thing as that is the only way any "casual" gamer would find out about these restrictions.

Cores gamers complain, media outlets pick up the story and publish it for the non-informed public.

I buy all my games new to support devs, but even I understand first sale doctrine and consumer rights being eroded.

I highly doubt Microsoft will advertise their games as limited lifetime rentals for $60 and constant internet connection requirement.

If they plainly state all the restrictions in bold warnings, then sure, let the market decide if that's acceptable.

Heh, you're just cool with them doing whatever. Model consumer right here.

No one here is crying about anything, people are saying this **** sucks and they don't like it and they will probably not buy it.

The whole "Stop whining and don't buy it." is so silly, this is a forum and people are allowed to state their opinions.

My opinion is I don't want a kinect watching, online checking, licensing game thing and I don't want to support it.

Why? Because if you do the next gen of consoles is going to take it further because they'll go "Well, this is what people bought so they must like it."

I hope it gets Simcity'd and Microsoft learns the harsh lesson of caring about what their customers may think about their console and it's features.

The real problem and sore subject I see in this -

How does RC COLA have LESS REP BARS than Salvy ??

THIS IS the THING that needs changing...

(No its NOT a "vs" thing. And I don't care about "rep" that much. Obviously people are alright OUTSIDE this thread in other things and deserve what they get. And know that people arent trying to rep whoring. )

But give RC some rep for his informative NON-OBJECTIVE efforts. I'M NOT EVEN INTO games that much and I'm saying this

Okay, because "cameras have cameras ",

Then I'm good with XBOX ONE'S intrusive camera...

Yes I'm really worried that a NON-POWERED, NON-SELF OPERATING cell phone stashed deep inside my drawer, is gonna take snapshots of my bedroom activity all on its own. (Or better yet, when Verizon tells me to always keep my cell "always on", I should think thats practical to everyday phone use...)

Yes me getting an old Polaroid camera from Craiglist so I can get my "vintage" hipster photog feel in ....

thats EXACTLY the same "camera" operation as FULL-ON CENTRALIZED SURVEILLANCE MONITORING

So when you're out at the store, that loss prevention camera monitoring thats checking you out --- hey here's a great idea - lets WILLINGLY BRING THAT SAME FUNCTIONALITY WITH you into the HOUSE, pack it into the grocery cart WITH you - FOR THE GAMEZ!!

Many Publishers have FLED the PC because of Piracy. Developers are not going to develop for a platform where a good chunk of profits are lost to theft. The PC will never be what it once was. Sony may make money...but the Publishers will not make as much money as they will on the Xbox One.

What you said there is true. And I don't think there's much doubt that people DO commend Microsoft for their attempts at innovation.

Though that reasoning there might still be attempting a bit of a "straw man" in some Xbox defense.

You're saying that people want to have simplistic consoles no "bells and whistles". Or its implying that people are "content" with just 1- dimensonal devices and arent appreciating the innovating directions they are getting. Or that people arent "understanding" their direction.

Thats not what it is. Nobody is saying "Please DON'T add more features to consoles".

They're saying "Add MORE and MORE - but DON'T MAKE us GIVE up OUR LIBERTIES in the process, in the FALSE name of "innovation". There IS a "line", and they're crossing it

I like how MS said that it only listens for "Xbox on" while in sleep mode. Seems to me that if it is listening for the word "Xbox," it is also listening to other words.

MS did say that you can turn the Kinect off and disable it from listening during sleep mode in the options, though. Whether that is true and unhackable remains to be seen.

I will only buy the Xbox One if it has really good exclusives. I am curious to see how MS incorporates the Kinect into Halo, even though I am not a Halo fan. I have thought it would be cool to use Kinect for games like Bioshock Infinite or GTA5. Being able to gesture to people, or to reach out and flip switches and stuff. There is a lot of potential there besides the dancing games.

I was watching some reactions from popular Youtube personalities and thought these were interesting (they all seem to share the same opinion):

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Q9C_dIReKcg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9APmJHu8DNs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> (this is his serious persona, not Francis)

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ryB-hdtpQRw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

NSFW language in these (particularly the last one), but I think they bring up some good points (e.g., MS is a huge corporation, they should be able to figure out a way to solve this problem without hurting gamers).

I've actually been somewhat surprised how negative the reaction has been, especially with mainstream news. I'm actually somewhat optimistic that MS might end up softening their stance on this further (if not completely dropping it). Though maybe I shouldn't be. A more realistic possibility is that MS will keep this up, and Sony will join them.

it would suck losing my gamerscore and all, but i cant have a machine with a camera that scans you to operate in the area of my house where most of my foreplay starts. I dont want to see it, and i dont want anyone else to see it either.

LOL, wow..... Xbox is breaking a lot of hearts right now. Based on those videos, Angry Joe and Francis are acting like this is the end of the world. I love Angry Joe, I love all of his reviews but cmon.... These guys are really letting themselves go over a freaking game console..... As if there are no other important things happening in the world. F getting poor people food and basic needs to live. What we need is for them to enjoy offline gaming anywhere anytime. Cant believe Francis had the balls to actually bring people in rural areas and soldiers into his 1st world problems.... Because this is a huge blow to the Army. I'm sure that when our fellow soldiers are on the move they are not worried about how many kills they got on call of duty. I also think our soldiers are not going to cry about not playing Xbox until they reach the next facility with internet connection. Because you know, they must find internet connection asap in order to get they game on. People in rural areas? Really? Haha wow I'm just amazed. And then Francis again has the balls to say Kinect wont recognize him because he is too fat. Well? Maybe its because you sit on your @ss all day playing freaking games.

I know this is what they do, they are gamers.... Haters h8, gamers game..... But the way they are treating this is borderline childish.

So, let me get this straight. People and reviewers are freaking out over the used game policy because now the games will have little to no value? LMAO!!!! What do they think made the games drop in value in the first place? What benefit does a game developer get when Francis lets all his friends play Bioshock Infinite for free....???? If I can simply borrow a freaking game then why the hell bother buying it?? For every game sold how many people play that game for free without pay? Hoe does this help the gaming industry? How does this help your game NOT lose value for when you go to gamestop and they offer you a joke... So after years and years of free loading off games borrowed everyone goes freaking mad because all of sudden they have to pay the people who are bringing it? LOL this is just crazy.... If anything, this may help our games retain better trade in value... Gosh I'm just in shock at the way people are seeing this.

I hate to sound rude but no way in hell is Xbox worried about poor people. No way in hell is any company trying to stay in business worried about poor people. Nobody in this world trying to make profit is targeting poor people!!!!! Yes they want money in exchange for content, games, software. Is that wrong? As a the buyer, I am willing to pay but I expect them to provide the service and content that will make my investment worth it. And so far at E3 I am going to find out if they have my money or if they don't.

Sad to say not everyone will be able to afford it. But not everyone can watch the Rockets live or pay for cable either. It sucks!!!!!!!!!!! But what can we do about it? Things aren't just going to be free....... When I was a kid I never had a PlayStation or Nintendo 64 at launch. In fact when the 64 and Ps1 was out I was barely getting into genesis. It was a $30 dollar console at Toys R Us and all my dad could afford. Sad isn't it? NO!!!! Its not! I had food and as time passed things got better. Its life...... Not everyone can have everything at first but there is always a chance for it later. Gosh I have given something soo stupid as a gaming console way too much thought.... Shame on me... There are other things in life that are important too people...

You can say that about a lot of products that get passed around. Does not mean you should take away ownership.

That's not true at all...Xbox One is all over the place. Last of Us is getting immense hype from people who play the PS3, but that's about as far as it goes. I can tell you that I have many friends that havent heard of Last of Us, but have been keeping up with the news of Xbox One and PS4.

For someone attacking the gamers above, you spend a lot of time defending the thing repeating over and over "It's just a game console! It's just a game console! Get over it and just buy it already!"

It seems your only response to people's legit criticisms to this console is "Get over it."
