If that's the case he wouldn't have got talked into staying in Orlando and would have opt out of his last year and became a free agent. He could've been in Brooklyn right now like he wanted.

This all could be a ploy just to get D'Antoni fired...

I will understand you're trying (at least sometimes), if you understand that basketball operations are a fluid thing.

Any insider that has ever posted here has been wrong before. Because of this, people often doubt them. The deal he mentioned, from what I can remember (or at least variations of it) were reported by some websites after his post of being possible to happen.

Respect the fact that a guy comes here and sticks his neck out to give us his information from his sources. Respect the fact that well known posters (and even Clutch in some cases...though I don't think with Ron) has vouched for these guys.

I'm not attacking 'Ron for sharing info.' as I said in an early response to the news that I'm grateful for all insider info. Please don't confuse my giving an opinion about the insider info. as an 'attack' on Ron.

The trustworthiness of insider info. can for the most part be based on how often this info. has proven to be correct in the past. My pointing this out merely highlights that this info. is likely to be wrong as this insider has not called anything correctly so far.

By all means, discuss away Ron's insider info. Actually, I'm just adding to the discussion. In fact, I'd like people to point out where my arguments fall down. In the meantime I'm entitled to my opinion that Ron's insider info has little merit.

So this has digressed to attacking me for sharing my opinion that the insider info. is incorrect? It's not an attack on the person, it's an attack on the info.

Why don't you address my points on why I think the insider info is wrong instead of attacking me?

I respect insiders but I do not think their info should be free from being discussed are called wrong.

I'm at work and on my phone, so I'm having a bit of a hard time looking up supporting facts, to be honest, but I'll just say this:

You posted an opinion (which is totally what this board is for, and I totally respect) speculating on why he was wrong. He posted information from his sources.

For now, I'm going to take his information for what it's worth, and be happy with it, because to me, it all sounds pretty plausible. In the grand scheme of things, though, a lot of the things can never be proven, and we will never know or find out if the things these insiders post are truth, speculation, or total smoke screens.

Lin being shipped if Howard is signed makes sense, because Lin's contract is backloaded. While I like the guy a lot, and he has great potential, he is somewhat of a luxury on this team. Because of that, Morey may be able to package him for someone at a position more in need (say Lin and Robinson for Josh Smith or Milsap) and save us money to have a supporting cast at the same time. The exciting thing about being a Rockets fan is our Gm is a good one, and he's not afraid to be bold.

As far as Dwight not wanting to play tons of minutes - this makes total sense. The guy played injured last year. He's 26. He has back issues. He relies mostly on athleticism. He's not an idiot, and realizes that with a bad back, his athleticism will take him nowhere. Who knows if this has been communicated with the Rockets, or is just speculation, but it makes total sense.

The Garcia thing is a no brainer.

It all seems to make a ton of sense to me.

well, if the insider info is correct,
there is a 50% chance Bynum being traded to the Rockets,
the Harden trade probably won't happen and we missed the playoff again

Let me clarify. All I'm saying is that '50 50', 'things could change, but...', 'Its not 100%...', ...etc. are throw away phrases that are only stated to make sure readers understand something is not fact. It is unnecessary when posting insider info because no-one assumes it is fact.

If you take away the 50 50 comment from Ron at the G's insider information last year, then that information was WRONG. Again I'm not attacking Ron or whoever, just stating that his insider info has never been correct.

If you guys really want to be pedantic, then I'll even concede that due to semantics and by saying there's a 50 50 chance that we'll get Bynum, Ron was not wrong.

My other arguments are still valid and I'm entitled to my opinion that Ron's insider information this year is WRONG.

Well, one thing to correct: Lin's contract isn't really backloaded as far as the salary cap is concerned. While the owner has to pay him 5/5/15, it is just 8.3 every yr against the salary cap per cba rules.

All of the 'inside info' is plausible imo, except the movement of Lin BECAUSE Howard is signed. That requires a lot of jumps in logic and just doesn't seem very intuitive to me. Could be true, but could also just be random musings. We can easily sign Howard and keep both Lin and Asik, so Lin would only be moved if we somehow felt moving him was necessary to sign Dwight (i.e., Dwight asking us to keep Asik but then wanting JSmith or someone on the Rockets). This seems a bit much to me -- that Dwight would ask this or that we'd grant it, but hey, maybe.

As far as Morey is concerned, if he wanted Josh Smith, it makes a LOT more sense to move Asik. With Dwight on the team, Asik's role is a lot more redundant than Lin's, esp. if in this hypo you're adding JSmith to the mix. ATL actually WANTS Asik but not Lin, and it'd be the same impact salary-wise.

My mind will be blown if we sign Howard and then move Lin for anything short of a superstar package (i.e., CP3). It just does not make sense to me.

The fact of the matter is that the information regarding Bynum becoming a rocket turned out to be false. Regarding insiders the people i like to think have knowledge of the League's inner workings are Cyberx and to an extent (mainly in the past) doc rocket

I understand it's the offseason and the saying "An idol mind is the devil's workshop" holds true, especially in early freaking June. But let's move on shall we?

Fair Dinkum: I understand that you are deeply passionate about the rockets and i applaud that. But I can see you getting burned out before we hit July 1st. You really don't have to respond to every criticism/joe complaining about your post rate or opinions. It really adds nothing to the conversation and wastes your energy.

Stick to your informative salary cap posts/banter and just ignore the guy mocking/criticizing you. It'll make the offseason go by faster and won't leave you grey haired by the end of the summer :)

    Yes! Thank you pwnyxpress.

This is the EXACT same thing as I said in my post except it was put more concisely and eloquently here.

Once again, I'm just stating that this part of 'Ron from the G's' insider info (IMHO) is very unlikely, so much so I believe it to be WRONG.

But thank you again 'Ron at the G', and other insiders, for sharing info :)

The thing about the Bynum thing (and Carl's point earlier) that most people fail to realize, is that we were at one point heavily linked to Bynum. Just because it failed to come to fruition does not make the info (at the time it was given) false or wrong.

Looking back, with hindsight, it may have never happened, but that does not mean the information was not valid or without merit. We will never be able to verify that, and I think because of that, people here label it as false or wrong, which I think, judging by what I remember reading at the time, was probably not the case.

The fun of the off-season, I guess.

I didn't even think that 'Lin being in jeopardy' even meant we would trade him off. I think keeping Asik around for the long term to help Dwight carry the load at the 5 only means we may not be able to afford Lin at the expiration of his contract--especially since Parsons will be due a pay raise.

If it came down to 2 of 3 scenarios being financially feesible:
1)Keep Asik long term to keep Dwight happy
2)Give Parsons a pay raise to keep him and his/Dwight's agent happy
3)Resign or let Lin walk at contract expiration

I'm letting Lin walk. That's the reality of the new CBA. I think it's wise when speculating on the posted info, that this could be 'Lin in jeopardy' as well. 50/50 anyway ;)

Thanks Classic. I agree with you that "if Howard comes, Lin's in jeopardy" does not mean Lin will be traded anytime soon.

However when you are talking about 2 seasons from now, when Lin, Asik and Parsons contracts are up. We will have Larry Bird rights for Lin and Les Alexander has said he is willing to pay the tax for a contender. But a lot can happen in 2 seasons and they will have to make a judgment then as to whether Lin, Asik and Parsons are worth keeping and going into the tax for, or if there is a more effective option at $8.3m and under.

Agree with you that the statement Lin in jeopardy upon Howard's signing does not necessarily mean Lin somehow gets traded soon...but somewhat disagree with your scenario. That is just too far out that I don't find it likely that anyone could make any legitimate guess as to someone being in jeopardy or not. You'd have to assume that even 2 yrs from now, Dwight would demand Asik's presence to not use a possible 3 yr player option a season down the road. Whoah, just too many logical leaps of faith.

Asik isn't feasible long or even medium term, he'll demand too much at the conclusion of his current contract pm 2 years.

Of course I've felt the front office's pro Asik stance in pursuit of Dwight has to be with the circumstances that would occur if Dwight weren't to come had our FO said he's expendable.

Maybe we shouldn't be bashing insiders that have been vouched for. These guys share their information early in the process and we all know things can change at any moment.

Just because it didn't happen doesn't mean that it wasn't true when he reported it to us. Berating and hating on these guys will only push them not to share info in the future.

Also, every post doesn't need to be the size of a thesis.

A thesis? That's a great idea, but why stop there? Fair Dinkum can be our very own George R.R. Martin. He can use his posts from the last month of Dwight Howard speculation as the basis of a series of 900 page books on his musings about the salary cap, why some insiders are wrong, the evolution of Clutch's podcasts, why people are mean to him and the fate of Omer Asik.
