1 HR allowed over 100 innings is pretty okay. Interesting look at his groundball numbers by month. In March and May, he was more of a flyball pitcher, but in April he had about a 3:2 GO/AO ratio. It was also his worst strikeout month (7 Ks/9). The weirdest thing is about 2/3 of his earned runs came with 2 outs. Appel and Gray were both around 40% for earned runs (and Appel was even lower if you count unearned runs). Not sure what that means exactly (fluke hits ballooning his ERA, or getting lax with 2 outs?), but found it odd. For juicystream, you will be happy to note he upped his K rate to 9.2/9 in the last month of the season, but his ERA suffered (and probably also explains the increase in air outs)
From mlb.com, Colin Moran's teammate. 6'4'', 215 lb. lefty. Ranked 69 on mlb.com. Also, former draft pick of the Pirates (though back in high school). He and Appel can talk about that.
Next 2 days on MLB.com only. Emanuel stands out more for his pitchability. 2013: 17 appearances (15 starts, 5 CG, 3 shutouts, 2 combined), 11-3, 2.70 ERA, 120 IP, 103 H (6 HR), 41 R (36 R), 27 BB, 88 K, 1.08 WHIP, .235 opponent average
Disappointed. We've drafted 3 college pitchers. I guess we are trying to have a great Tri-City team again.
I like Emanuel. Saw him pitch 2 weeks ago and I came away very impressed. Workhorse bulldog lefty who should be an innings eater. Fastball was consistently 89-92mph and has very good command. Won't strike out many guys, but I like this pick.
The Astros are looking hard to draft the next Jeriome Robertson in rounds 2 and 3. I love the fact they are aiming to fill that long reliever/5th starter spot.
We definitely needed to think about what happens when Dallas Keuchel, Rudy Owens, Jack Buchanan, David Martinez, Ross Seaton, etc. are gone.
Agreed. Kind of surprised there. Though I guess we drafted high schoolers primarily in early rounds last year, so trying to balance out.
