Delino DeShields just hit his 2nd homer of the season. It's a 3-run shot in the 2nd that has put Lancaster up 4-3 on Stockton, and that's where they stand heading into the 3rd.

Is it wrong that I want Buxton to fail miserably at the MLB level just so I won't have to hear that we passed up on him a million times from now until the end of my life? Even if Correa is a really good player in the future (almost a year younger than Buxton and just named a Midwest League All-Star), I have a feeling people will still bring up Buxton if he is even just a little bit better. Hopefully Correa, McCullers, and Ruiz shut people up in the future but with our luck I doubt it.

Haha I'm with ya, I'm rooting for the same thing. But so far it looks like he's going to be pretty special barring an injury.

His team had 21 hits. I'd say they all put on a show.

I think Lance McC proving to be decent (and Ruiz for that matter) would help tremendously. I think Correa will pan out, but having Lance be a front line guy would be huge.

I think we still could have gotten Lance if we took Buxton, Ruiz would have been the sacrifice.

MadMax Muncy has victimized Lancaster's pitchers for 3 home runs. It's the 4th inning.

You guys sure do love to worry about correa/Buxton. They are in single-A, wait till they start performing in the higher levels before comparing them

    Wednesday Story

    Swept.

    Recap

    OKC was off

They will begin a 4-game series in Omaha starting tonight at 7:05. A very good pitching matchup in the opener, as OKC sends out Asher Wojciechowski to take on Yordano Ventura, the Royals' 2nd-best pitching prospect behind Kyle Zimmer.

    Midland 3, Corpus Christi 1

The Hooks outhit the Rockhounds 8-6 but were largely kept in check, as Jonathan Singleton's RBI double in the 5th constituted the only offense for Corpus. George Springer went 2-4 with a double, and Jio Mier went 3-3, scoring the 1 run. Justin Maxwell went 0-4 with a strikeout in his 2nd rehab game.

Nick Tropeano went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs (both in the 2nd) on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Bobby Doran tagged in for his 4 and was largely effective. However, he served up a solo homer to David Freitas in the 6th which turned out to be all the insurance Midland needed. Doran allowed 1 other hit and fanned 2.

In game 3 of this series, R.J. Alaniz and Jorge De Leon will team up to face Sean Murphy. First pitch is at 7:05.

    Stockton 13, Lancaster 7

The Jethawks and Ports combined to send out 11 home runs, which tied a California League record that was set in 1962. Stockton outhomered Lancaster 7-4 as the Jethawks were swept in a series for the first time this season.

All but 1 of the 7 Jethawks runs were the product of home runs. That came on a Matt Duffy RBI double in the 1st that put them on the board first. Delino DeShields then hit a 3-run homer in the 2nd (2) that gave them a 4-3 lead. Telvin Nash hit a solo shot (10) in the 4th, then Duffy went solo (10), and Nolan Fontana sent a solo shot of his own (4) down the right field line in the 7th. Duffy, Andrew Aplin, and M.P. Cokinos had 2 hits apiece.

Max Muncy, a Baylor product, personally terrorized Jethawks pitchers in this game. He had 3 home runs.... by the 4th inning. Tony Thompson, Phil Pohl, B.A. Vollmuth, and Rashun Dixon joined the mini-derby.

Brady Rodgers was knocked out by a stretch of 5 consecutive extra-base hits in the 3rd, which consisted of a back-to-back homer sequence, 2 doubles, and a homer sandwiched between those doubles. He only lasted 2 2/3 innings, and he allowed 8 runs on 7 hits (4 homers) and struck out 2. Tom Shirley then went 1 1/3 and allowed 3 runs (all on home runs) on 3 hits (solo and 2-run homers) and struck out 2. Chris Devenski went 3 innings and allowed a 2-run homer to B.A. Vollmuth in the 7th, his only hiccup in this outing. He allowed 1 other hit, walked 1, and struck out 6. Cam Lamb, in his Jethawks debut, threw a 1-2-3 8th.

The Jethawks will now travel to San Jose to take on the Giants in a 4-game series. Tyson Perez and David Rollins will start the opener, and they will take on Clayton Blackburn. First pitch is at 7 Pacific.

Cedar Rapids 14, Quad Cities 5

Well, the River Bandits were up 5-2... until Cedar Rapids came to bat in the bottom of the 4th. The Kernels put up a dime in the inning, and that pretty much spurred them on to a win.

Brian Blasik hit an RBI groundout in the 2nd to put QC on the board. Rio Ruiz and Roberto Peña both went 2-4 with a double and an RBI; The River's RBI came on a single in the 3rd, and Peña's was a double one batter later. Carlos Correa hit an RBI single in the 4th, and Terrell Joyce hit an RBI groundout.

Jordan Jankowski went 3 innings and allowed 5 runs on 9 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Mitch Lambson came on to start the 4th and got crushed, as he allowed 6 runs on 6 hits without recording an out. Richard Rodriguez finished the 4th for him, and pitched the 5th. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and struck out 2. Juan Minaya, making his season debut, went 3 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3.

The winning pitcher for Cedar Rapids, Alex Muren, is the younger brother of Corpus OF Drew Muren.

With the loss, the River Bandits slipped to 3rd. Game 2 of this series has a very intriguing matchup, as Vince Velasquez and Jamaine Cotton team up to face J.O. Berrios. First pitch is at 6:35.

DSL Red Sox 3, DSL Astros 2

The Academy currently has a running theme in their first 4 games, as late-inning rallies have decided the result of all of them. In this one, the Red Sox scored twice in the 9th to take the lead, and the win. 3 errors doomed the Academy.

A completely random note, though relevant to this game: The Red Sox had a set of identical twins in their lineup, and both are named Luis Basabe. The CF is Luis Alexander, and the 2B is Luis Alejandro. This is part of Ben Badler's write-up for the Red Sox in the 2012 international free agent class. Subscription or no subscription, this is something that should be made known to all.

Both Astros runs came in the 3rd, as Luis Payano hit a sac fly and Jean Estrella hit an RBI single. Estrella and Arturo Michelena had 2-4 days.

Javier Lozano started with 3 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits, walking 1, and fanning 2. Victor Mesa allowed an unearned run on 3 hits and struck out 3 in 3 innings. Gerardo Juarez quickly got the 1st 2 outs of the 9th, and if he had finished the job, I'd be writing about a 2-1 win for the Academy. Instead, he committed an error that set the wheels in motion for this 3-2 loss. He then issued a walk, and then was pulled for Javier Saucedo. Saucedo failed to retire the only hitter he faced, giving up an infield single that loaded the bases. Angel Heredia then came on and allowed the tying single to Franklin Guzman, and then walked Ricardo Andujar with the bases loaded to put the Red Sox up. The 2 runs were charged to Juarez, and both were unearned.

The DSL Astros will host the Royals academy in the morning. First pitch is at 10:30 AM Atlantic.

LOL Reminding the Astros that HE is the jewel of the system, not the Stanford starter.

Responding to Buxton's big day yesterday, have to love the mental make up of this kid.

So he's batting over .300 with 800+ ops at age 18 in his first full pro season. What a bust.
