Yeah I agree with this. The Cubs needed some pitching and they would've taken Appel if the Astros hadn't. As a Cubs fan, I think I'm satisfied with Bryant pick since they couldn't get Appel. I think Appel is a solid pick, like someone said earlier, I think he'll be a great #2 -- not really sure about ace. Best of all he's a hometown kid.

Great pick, and the guy I've wanted all along. I've seen him pitch twice in person and I think he's the real deal. I can only laugh at some of you guys who changed your mind every couple weeks after you saw some high school HR footage or watch Kris Bryant hit a home run against some pathetic college reliever.
I think the Astros took the top overall prospect. I suspect one of the high schoolers will end up better, but it is a guess as to which one. Even if he becomes a #2 starter it is a good pick in a draft without any can't miss stars.
Safe pick. At worse he'll be a 3rd starter for his career. Doesn't seem to have Bust potential at all.

I know little to nothing about MLB prospects. I know this is the guy most said would go 1st so I assumed he was the best... Any idea how long it will be till he's in the major's? That's all I ever really care about...
I think most people are predicting at some point next season. He should move up fast unless he's just more hittable then expected.
I think he may be responding to what Harold Reynolds said... he's not going to get promoted this season.
appel's delivery has always seemed a bit funky to me, kinda the way pence used to load up. a bit of an unorthodox delivery. however, the experts said its fairly sound, as he gets great balance and follow through..
The pitcher everyone seems to compare Appel to is Prior who blew out his arm. I'm sure the Astros did their homework on his delievery though even though there was a time when scouts thought Prior had a great delivery. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Prior
