Had a business partner who cooked his side of the books, and made off with everything we have earned in the past 9 months($58,700).

Have all these bills now, and no money. facing eviction, and no money to pay a lawyer to go after him and collect what is rightfully mine. He was someone I trusted for 15 years, and still did this to me. I'm completely lost on what to do now besides go find a job and start from the bottom again.

Some people are just pure ****ing evil, and you never know who you really are dealing with it seems like these days.

Really don't want to be on the streets, but looks like I have no choice. this sucks ass

Should've made some lawyer friends in college/highschool..

Sorry bro p&T for you. If I were you I'd take a loan, hire a lawyer, and sue his ass. Probably your best bet.

Nah... Has to be more to it. What do you mean exactly by "cooked" and "his side of the books."

If you have a solid case, you can find a lawyer to represnt you.

And the moral to the story is: INCORPORATE

Sorry to hear about this terrible incident! First off, F*** your "friend". That is some bullsh!t. Hind sight is always 20/20, but you definitely should have given yourself salary, and split profit into separate accounts. I would definitely try to find some lawyer and have him do something. If he's good, he knows he can win, he can get paid from when you get your share back.

    Good Luck and God Bless!

    Stay strong brother.

There has to be a lawyer that would take this case on retainer. If you have hard evidence as to how he defrauded you, any lawyer worth his salt should be able to get back what's rightfully yours.

I also don't understand how "his" side of the books was kept in the dark from you. Did you really keep separate logs? If you do embark on any future ventures with business partners, please incorporate yourselves first. That way, if something like this happens, you'll at least have legal protection on your side.

Can you prove any of the stuff you claim? If so, you have a case. I am more than sure you kept receipts, transactions, invoices, etc.?

Hopefully he can't forge YOUR signature. All is NOT lost!

    FIGHT THE POWER!
Procter without Gamble? Bartles without James? Ben without Jerry? Johnson without Johnson (a family company)? How doyou think THEY succeeded?

Sorry to hear of your situation! I don't have words of enlightenment to help you get
out of your predicament, but I can tell you "this too shall pass". You obviously have
entrepreneurship in your blood so this will only help you in your next endeavor. You
are not terminally ill so don't make yourself sick over something that's already happened!
Many people have experienced this exact situation and have rebounded to achieve
    greater success.

Try to get legal advice as soon as possible, but in the meantime try to focus on
opportunities that are coming your way
and not on the missteps of the past!

really weren't kept in the dark, he just lied about a lot of stuff on paper.Which I'm a dumbass for not verifying and believing him.

He handled the sales, and banking in the business account. He called me and told me he would not be at work today or tomorrow.

So, I go to the bank to draw money out for a business expense and low and behold, the account has $10 in it. Been calling him all day, went by his house(which is empty). He hot tailed it out of town.

We both own the company. I just can't believe a person that close to me would do this while we had something very promising in the works.

I am just numb and totally in shock today. It just makes me sick

Tried finding a lawyer all day, and didn't get anywhere. I don't have money to really hold me over until they find him, and arrest him or whatever happens. Went to the cops, they told me to file a report with the DA.

I guess I have to just take it one step at a time, but this is a huge blow. We were pretty much invested everything we made back into the company, and both were just keeping enough to live on until we built a solid foundation. My ego is bruised, and my faith has been shaken to the core. I just never thought this would ever happen. Feel totally played for a fool, and don't know what to do. I paid the bills that I could afford today to hold me over, but now going to be facing eviction and no where to go.

I could take loans out, but doesn't seem very logical not knowing how my money situation will be and don't want to put myself in greater debt than I already will be in the coming days. I learned my lesson, but damn

Stay strong friend! Like Bambam said, you will rise from this, just stay positive! Don't be embarrassed, this is something that someone did to you that was out of your control. You had 15 years to get to know the guy, which is more than enough time to make a determination on whether to trust him or not. Karma will come back to him, and you will get your dues. Stay positive and stay strong!

Prayers for you and your family that things will go right for you.

In all honesty it hurts like hell to have your closest friend pull one on you. That's why I have trouble lending money to even close friends/family without them signing a loan agreement (obviously talking about loans > $3K).

As far as the business, any tangible assets you can sell? $59K is a lot of money, do you have any other savings you can dip into (401K or w/e) just to get by? Also, as far as the debt of the business, how much is it and whose name is it under (I'm assuming he made of with $59K of capital but what's the size of the outstanding debt?). Also consider potentially walk away from the business and like you said start over.

Do what you can to get by and not get evicted (btw, if you have a mortgage, it's actually not that easy to kick you out of your house, might buy you a few months but I'm not an expert). Find a job to get by day to day It's not your fault for being too good of a person and hopefully this is a great lesson for future.

Once again, I know it sucks and my heart goes out to you.
